Considering booking a week In Cyprus for half term. Found a good deal, is that a really stupid thing to do given that cases are on the rise?

I would consider whether Boris will put us into lockdown over half term, there have been hints.

You need proof of a negative Covid test within 72 hours before flying to Cyprus. You are not supposed to use NHS for this, and what happens if one of you is positive?

nosswith · 26/09/2020 16:49

I would not do any booking unless you can cancel and get a refund, or are prepared to lose a deposit or the amount paid before the holiday.

Someonesayroadtrip · 26/09/2020 16:50

I wouldn't personally.

IShitGlitter · 26/09/2020 16:50

If your happy for it to be cancelled then go for it

Scrumptiousbears · 26/09/2020 16:51

Anyone would be silly thinking of booking a holiday in the next six months. So much is up in the air. I think that's asking for trouble.

tobedtoMNandfart · 26/09/2020 16:58

I think you're insane. HTH

ellentree · 26/09/2020 16:59

If you are happy to pay privately for the tests and it's physically possible for you to get to wherever your test centre is, I would.

tobedtoMNandfart · 26/09/2020 17:00

Although I look forward to seeing you on the news bleating on about how you are stuck somewhere and this will cost you thousands 🙄

TokyoSushi · 26/09/2020 17:00

I would love to go but I think the possibility of being in lockdown, the faffing about with the negative test etc would just make it a pain so I wouldn't.

ellentree · 26/09/2020 17:00

(Though be prepared to lose the money if things change - I think I might book it very short notice, once I had test results)

zafferana · 26/09/2020 17:01

If you can change the flights/holiday with no/minimal penalty, if you don't mind sorting/paying for private tests and if you can accept that you may or may not be able to go, then go for it.

jessstan2 · 26/09/2020 17:04

I think it is an unwise proposition.

FizzyPink · 26/09/2020 17:05

We hope to go away in October half term but will book at the last possible minute and if not have a few days away in the U.K. instead.
It makes me anxious as I’m very much a planner when it comes to holidays but we’ve already had to cancel 4 this year, I’m not sure I can take another!

Lindy2 · 26/09/2020 17:14

I think anything other than absolutely essential travel abroad at the moment is very unwise. Potential lockdowns, quarantined, the risk of getting infected or ill whilst abroad and needing to get a private test before travelling would definitely put me off.

We have a UK holiday booked which we booked over a year ago. We will be travelling from a low risk area to another low risk area. I can't even guarantee that will be able to go ahead right now. I hope it will but, as we've all learned, things change very quickly. I'd hate to be abroad with so many uncertainties.

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 26/09/2020 17:14

Have you factored in the cost of private RT-PCR tests within 72h of your holiday? I looked into it and they were £139 per person and involved a 100 mile round trip. Which would’ve involved taking the kids out of school. Plus there is the ongoing risk of lockdown and having to quarantine on your return.

I’m reluctantly staying put this year.

ScrapThatThen · 26/09/2020 17:15

Have cancelled UK holiday for then, unnecessary travel just doesn't seem very socially responsible at the height of a pandemic - it's kind of helping the virus.

QueenofmyPrinces · 26/09/2020 17:18

My husband and our sons are due to go to Turkey over half term and he’s convinced it’s happening.

I on the other hand think that the way things are quickly escalating, I can’t imagine non essential travelling abroad being permitted.

I wouldn’t book it if I were you OP.

nevermorelenore · 26/09/2020 17:19

What happens if you fly out there, then next day, oops they've changed the rules and you either need to get back now or quarantine for two weeks? That would be the major thing that put me off.

Also, I don't know what the deal is with travel insurance. I'm assuming you'd need to pay more than usual, as catching covid puts you at risk of hospitalization.

doctorhamster · 26/09/2020 17:20

I wouldn't personally. I'm dithering over whether to book something for Easter because I'm worried that could be pushing it.

Cheetahfajita · 26/09/2020 17:21

Yes.

RepeatSwan · 26/09/2020 17:21

Have to say I think that is a quite strange thing to do, given the case rises right across Europe.

WitsEnding · 26/09/2020 17:24

Friend has just lost her flights to Cyprus due to Covid test results not being received by the promised time.

Justgorgeous · 26/09/2020 17:24

I think it’s really irresponsible! Stay home.

CoffeeandKitKat · 26/09/2020 17:27

We have a short break in the uk that was booked months ago booked for October half term. I hope we will be able to go.

Personally I wouldn't book anything abroad at the moment, not at such short notice as next month. That's mainly due to DS being at school now and I'd be very worried he'd miss school if we had to suddenly quarantine on return. A break in the UK maybe, but with the ability to cancel without a financial penalty.

Venicelover · 26/09/2020 17:35

I would!
