I’m at my wits end with PayPal.

In July I bought a product from a company saying “Guaranteed 30 Day Refund” if not fully satisfied. I tried to contact the company who never replied to my emails and just “disappeared” from contact. So, I got in touch with PayPal Resolution Centre. They have completely gotten hold of the wrong end of the stick and now written to say that I have RECEIVED the goods. Well yes, but... I’d like a refund under the terms of the transaction. PayPal have “closed the claim”.

Am I unreasonable to think that PayPal need to have REAL people to speak to/correspond with in these matters. The original company was clearly a scam. Surely, PayPal want to know this?

When you go on the PayPal website, it’s sends you all around the houses and then you still cannot have a “conversation” about the problem. Even their Chat feature just says “you’ve received your goods and the matter is closed”. I’m at a loss.

Can anyone advise? I always thought PayPal was a reliable way to shop.

I had similar issues with their online resolution centre just not understanding the issue I had and closing my case . I eventually found a number to call them on and spoke to an actual person who then resolved the issue v quickly.

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 26/09/2020 10:29

@Whatnow321... how’d you find that number? I’ve been all over their website since August. I cannot find anything. I use PayPal a lot because it’s just easy but I wish I’d used my credit card as I’m pretty sure they have handled it differently and they have “real people”.

They are fuckers as are all the major companies (Microsoft, apple, amazon) when it comes to talking to a person and resolving the situation.

Had a similar issue with MS dragging on for months waiting for my refund, got Resolver involved and it was sorted out in days. Contact them.

^This - all big cos seem to want to hide away if there's a problem.

I just kept on messaging them asking to speak to a real person, eventually I got a message back with a phone number to ring. It did get resolved eventually and I even got my return postage costs refunded (they don't like to tell you about that either).
Persistence is the key with Paypal, and I agree they are not to be trusted as they will allow any old scammer to use their payment systems.

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 26/09/2020 13:48

I think if I don’t get any resolution then I’ll just close the account and go back to using my other cards. It ought not to be that difficult when you think of the £££ going PayPal.

Ooooh...@tornadoalley...what’s Resolver?

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 26/09/2020 13:52

Hmmm... just been on Resolver. PayPal will not accept complaints of inquiries from them. I wonder why!

Was the 30-day guarantee with the company or PayPal?

If with the company there is nothing PayPal can do you paid and received the item PayPal are completely out of the picture then. You need to take the company to small claims court to get your money back as they are the ones who broke the contract.

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 26/09/2020 14:13

Thanks @totorostoes. It’s so infuriating. Just been on the website and sent my 11th email requesting refund under their 30 Day Refund Policy and they’re still in business. Still flogging stuff that’s faulty and still showing 5* reviews from satisfied customers. Obviously, my review NEVER made it onto the site.

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 26/09/2020 14:15

@Ijustdontcarethank you. The company offered the refund. They’re STILL offering the refund on their website but don’t come back to you when you contact them. The phone number is a dead line. The Chat Centre doesn’t work. I think I may need to write it off.

I have a somewhat medium sized business that the majority of payments process through. I have wasted a morning this week speaking with them. Their online chat function is not fit for purpose and the phone lines are staffed by incompetent idiots. I had my eBay business manager resolve the issue I had in the end.

AKissAndASmile · 26/09/2020 14:19

PayPal, Amazon, Google.....all shit customer service because they don't need to try.

I don't buy anything using PayPal (in fact you've reminded me to delete my account). Credit card for piece of mind.

MoonDelay · 26/09/2020 14:24

Yes definitely use the Resolver website, things tend to move a whole lot faster with them involved

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 26/09/2020 15:13

@MoonDelay... can’t use Resolver. They don’t “do” PayPal and the company I bought from isn’t registered with them 😐

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 26/09/2020 15:14

I have a birthday gift on order, paid for via PayPal. After that, I’ll shut it down.

MoonDelay · 26/09/2020 15:21

Ah bugger! Sorry about that, really shitty

Igotthemheavyboobs · 26/09/2020 15:27

How much was it OP? I know this sounds a bit shite but is it an amount that is worth all this time? If you're taking a tenner, your hours are worth so much more than this.

Although I would be really wound up about this! Just sometimes you have to write it off as an experience and move on.

UpTheLaganInABubble · 26/09/2020 15:53

I spoke to them a couple of weeks ago on 0203 9017000

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 26/09/2020 17:44

The amount was £79.99p. Not a huge amount but I think I can’t be the only person who’s fallen for this. They’re probably making a small fortune.

Also, yesterday I ordered some charms for a gift from Pandora, the official site for the UK. They’ve an offer at the moment saying 3 for 2. I ordered 6 little charms (two of them for Xmas each for nieces). I’ve just had an email from Pandora UK saying “We’ve cancelled part of your order” so... again feel I’ve been done as I’ve now paid full price for the 4 charms and as there’s only 4, I don’t qualify for the two “free” ones. I think online shopping is crap. I’d much rather go to a store, face to face and just buy something. It’s a scam.

PayPal is a middleman, why didn't you contact your bank? Assuming your PayPal is set up the same as mine I have my bank card linked to PayPal and PayPal takes money out of my bank to pay the seller, unless you used PayPal credit to pay for the item?

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 26/09/2020 17:58

I went to the bank (NatWest) who said I needed to go through their Resolution channels. Also, had to stand outside at the bank, masked and unable to enter, discussing my finances.

OP posts:
EasterIssland · 26/09/2020 18:01

I’ve spoken with them this week 3 times I think. Tho one of them was directly with PayPal credit. They’ve raised a dispute on my behalf as I was talking to them. (British airways has refunded me 2 out of the 3 people they have cancelled the flights for)

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 26/09/2020 18:04

I have my NatWest card registered with PayPal. No credit. Might try the bank again.

I bought a waterproof watch from eBay. Naturally it filled with water on first wear in the shower. Seller wouldn't refund and PayPal resolution closed the case saying the item "wasn't materially different to the description"

I was gobsmacked
