What would it be? Mine would be a Sunday roast with all the trimmings

OP posts:
40somethingJBJ · 26/09/2020 01:42

Roast lamb leg with rosemary and mint, mash and roasties (done in goose fat), Yorkshire puds, broccoli, cauliflower cheese, carrots, sugarsnap peas, minty gravy and red currant sauce.

DeRigueurMortis · 26/09/2020 01:44

@jennyb122

carbonara. without mushrooms.

a recipe for you all Smile
100g of spaghetti (or less if you're not a pig like me Blush)
about a 1/4 of a tub of cream cheese
a teaspoon of lazy garlic
a chicken oxo
80ml pasta water
2 rashers of bacon
an egg yolk

fry the bacon while your pasta is cooking, then just toss everything in with the bacon and stir for about 30 secs until everything is mixed and warm.
Wink

Carbonara does not ever have mushrooms or stock cubesShock

It's simply pasta, pancetta, olive oil/butter, egg, pasta water and Parmesan/pecorino.

And lashings of freshly ground black pepper imho to serve...

Lamb isn't my first choice but I agree wholeheartedly with your treatment!

Minted gravy etc ...yum

ShockShockShock

Carbonara is easy....and no it does not have bloody mushrooms!!!

How to make:

  • buy decent pasta (De Cecco is good) and cook to instructions - minus one minute

In parallel...

  • olive oil and butter in a wide deep pan
  • cook pancetta until crispy
  • grate Parmesan/pecorino (lots)
  • break eggs and separate the yolks

Pasta is done (minus one minute):

  • drain but reserve a cup of cooking water
  • toss the pasta in the pan with the pancetta/oil/butter
  • add the cheese and stir, then add cooking water until it forms its own thin sauce.
  • take off the heat and stir in the egg yolks that will thicken the sauce.
  • serve immediately with lashings of freshly ground black pepper

@DeRigueurMortis Shock i might have to try this, tomorrow, you know.. for science... GrinWink

Ghosts2020 · 26/09/2020 02:06

A different tortellini and sauce each meal but happy for just that

Yellownotblue · 26/09/2020 02:13

Coulibiac. I’ve never had it. Should have it once before I die surely!

Or else, a proper kaiseki dinner. Keep it going for hours. I’m in no rush to die.

Or for enjoyment 😀

Forget to say to dilute the egg yolk in a bit (just a bit) of pasta cooking water before stirring in as it makes it easier to incorporate.

Strokethefurrywall · 26/09/2020 02:30

Yep agreed, roast dinner with all trimmings. Would have to be lamb with mint sauce, Yorkshire pud, crispy as fuck roast potatoes and of course cauliflower cheese.

All other trimmings after that (roast parsnips, swede, sweet corn, broccoli) are a bonus... all swimming in gravy!

cambrianexplosion · 26/09/2020 02:47

Beef steak with mint sauce (I know!!) and horseradish sauce and lots of gravy. With roast potatoes, cooked tomato, salad, broccoli, peas, roast carrots and parsnips.

Drooling!!

My second choice would be a really spicy Thai curry.

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 26/09/2020 03:03

Yes Sunday Roast as well!

ncd5785 · 26/09/2020 03:11

For me, cheese on toast, I can eat it on consecutive days and still thoroughly enjoy it.
In terms of a full meal, it would then be a Sunday roast with beef as the meat. My preference is for roast potatoes cooked in beef dripping, thick gravy and quite doughy Yorkshire puddings

Marmite0nToast · 26/09/2020 03:42

Username says it all, really. Marmite on toast - totally love it and have it for breakfast every single day.

Tunnocksmallow · 26/09/2020 04:02

Cottage pie, garden peas, loads of gravy

userxx · 26/09/2020 04:09

Beans on toast. Simple but magnificent.

Butchyrestingface · 26/09/2020 04:32

Well, a meal consists of three courses (at least). Hence:

  • oxtail soup
  • lasagne (with salad and chips)
  • vanilla ice cream
redlockscelt · 26/09/2020 05:01

Peppered steak
Hasselback potatoes

Toilenstripes · 26/09/2020 05:13

The seafood soup from L’ami Jean
Steak tacos

MsChatterbox · 26/09/2020 05:23

Pizza

DimplesToadfoot · 26/09/2020 05:40

A Christmas dinner, or just a Sunday roast with pigs in blankets, there must be sprouts, Yorkshire puddings and lashings of gravy .. hungry now

doopdeepduup · 26/09/2020 06:17

Spicy noodles

seayork2020 · 26/09/2020 06:24

Am tossing up between lamb roast dinner or fresh from the sea seafood platter (not frozen, for the variety)

But then there is lasagne...

LongPauseNoAnswer · 26/09/2020 06:25

A ribeye steak cooked medium well-ish on the bbq so the fat gets all browned and delicious. Served with a bucket of home made Bearnaise sauce.
