to talk to head teacher about a family with an illegal car and ridiculous driving?

I've name changed because I make no qualms about my actual identity normally.

There is a dad who drives past the school in a car and he skids or his wheels lock every few seconds (no exaggeration, I'm going to film it on Monday for police?)
His engine cuts out when he changes gear - stops and he has to try repeatedly to turn the engine over

He also drives too fast.

Today he nearly knocked me over and I've noticed him all week. He is a nightmare and his car is broken. I decided I wanted to ring 101 today to log this. I first looked him up, on the dvla. No tax since January
No mot since August. Beyond covid restrictions.

I am so angry. He drives children to school in the car daily. How dare he was driving too fast idk about speeding but too fast (likely speeding) it's hard to tell if you're not behind someone with a speedo on the car.
Then I said I found his car to be worrying as it cuts out. Perplexed as how not caught. I suspect he is driving it in the estate area he lives with no ANPR. If he hurts some one or damaged a car which he will ultimately, the other party will pay since any insurance would be void.

I have logged with police but I find it unacceptable his has kids in this car. Police said I should discuss with head teacher. I feel like a snitch.

AIBU to call her to discuss or have a quick chat next week?

Thanks

I spoke to 101 said he

What exactly could the Head teacher do?

worriedparentatgate · 25/09/2020 19:25

I'm not sure what happened to the rest of my post

Police said I should discuss this with head teacher as well to draw their attention to it

Am I being unreasonable to talk to her? I'm worried about the kidS

He drives SO dangerously

worriedparentatgate · 25/09/2020 19:26

Well they have a parent who drives children to school dangerously

In a broken car

With no insurance
No mot
No tax

Is that not a safeguarding concern?

I'm genuinely wondering

I am surprised the police said this - I don't really understand what the headteacher can do about his car or his driving. I would have thought it was a police matter. Sorry not to be of more help.

Diverseduvet · 25/09/2020 19:27

I would mention the driving as a safeguarding concern, although I would be surprised if the school didn't already know. I wouldn't mention about the tax and MOT.

iwantmyownicecreamvan · 25/09/2020 19:27

Sorry x post - I suppose it is a safeguarding issue, but all the HT can do is inform the police surely - maybe SS I'm not sure.

worriedparentatgate · 25/09/2020 19:28

That's what I thought I thought surely police can address all of it incl safe guarding

I don't want to get involved in their lives I just do not want to be injured by this man or have my car damaged by him

It's honestly the most disgraceful driving I've ever seen

They also told me to tell other parents to make complaints!!! So they had a log of it all and could connect the case

Makes me wonder if they saw something come up on the mans profile when they searched the registration!!

worriedparentatgate · 25/09/2020 19:30

@Diverseduvet

I know it's such terrible drivinG

He has some balls on him, he actually parks over the gates to school infront of the head mistress

The lady (I'm guessing mum) is v loud and also skips queue at school daily

She just walks across the road and into school ahead of everyone who's queued

Bizarre

ColleagueFromMars · 25/09/2020 19:31

You're job isn't too work out if you're safeguarding cobden is legitimate or not - that's the job of somebody senior within the school. You're job is to pass on your concerns to somebody at the school and it is up to them what they do with that information.

worriedparentatgate · 25/09/2020 19:32

@ColleagueFromMars

so then is it my job to discuss this with her? Which I will if it's my duty to do so..

OP posts:
worriedparentatgate · 25/09/2020 19:33

Will I look like a snitch?

OP posts:
worriedparentatgate · 25/09/2020 19:47

I could talk to her on Monday

OP do you know where he lives? You can anonymously report the car as untaxed to DVLA, they will come and clamp it pretty quickly (and tow it away in a certain period if the owner doesn't pay the fee), I've seen it happen a few times in my area.

I probably wouldn't mention to the school only because in my experience schools are quite reluctant to get involved with this sort of family. Whereas if you report it to DVLA you should get the car off the road asap.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 25/09/2020 19:53

Fuck's sake - the things headteachers are supposed to be able to solve.

It's for the police, urgently, surely.

RedRumTheHorse · 25/09/2020 19:54

^This first.

If nothing has happened in 2 weeks then take the next steps. In the meantime film the car every single day.

BlackberrySky · 25/09/2020 19:58

I would report to the DVLA rather than the school. It's illegal to drive an untaxed car.

Iambouddicca · 25/09/2020 19:59

No idea what the head teacher can do. I had something similar this week and reported a school parent to the police for dangerous driving on the school run.

I did think about telling the school but then thought that it is happening outside of school and is illegal...

The police took it seriously and they are promising a police presence to monitor the situation ( occurs in particular area the same time every day).

I felt bad at being a snitch, but then the police mentioned that the activity had been reported by several other people too.

worriedparentatgate · 25/09/2020 20:07

So I can do the DVLA form now but he parks it on his drive near the school (ive seen it)

Shall I report where I think it is

The angry part of me wants to report it after I have filmed Him being a wanker

He's so arrogant using that car on the rat runs near the school thinking he won't be caught
What a loser

It’s like the police don’t want the hassle of dealing with this issue and hope the head teacher can sort it for them? Or perhaps they can’t touch the guy for some reason? It’s weird.

KeepingPlain · 25/09/2020 20:17

I'd keep complaining to the police to be honest. Every day he drives the car, phone them. Phone dvla each day too. You'll get someone eventually who will do their job. Plus it's logging a known problem that they aren't sorting out and it will make them look very bad if that goes public.

SmellsLikeFeet · 25/09/2020 20:18

This is strange. The police would normally take over and inform the relevant bodies
I'd step back I I were you and tell the police that you were doing this

MagpieSong · 25/09/2020 20:21

I’m not sure what the Head can do. Perhaps to alert the Police if he’s seen driving dangerously again? I do know, when I reported a moped for dangerous driving, Police took it very seriously (it came v close to my dcs pram) and dealt with it asap. I would report where it is.

Witchend · 25/09/2020 20:25

If the police thought the head teacher should know then they're quite capable of telling them themselves rather than relying on someone else. Confused

keeprocking · 25/09/2020 20:26

Yet another person expecting the school to act as a universal superman/woman!

worriedparentatgate · 25/09/2020 20:31

That's what I mean

Surely police can notify SS! @keeprocking

I will film that fool on Monday
