I've name changed because I make no qualms about my actual identity normally.

There is a dad who drives past the school in a car and he skids or his wheels lock every few seconds (no exaggeration, I'm going to film it on Monday for police?)
His engine cuts out when he changes gear - stops and he has to try repeatedly to turn the engine over

He also drives too fast.

Today he nearly knocked me over and I've noticed him all week. He is a nightmare and his car is broken. I decided I wanted to ring 101 today to log this. I first looked him up, on the dvla. No tax since January
No mot since August. Beyond covid restrictions.

I am so angry. He drives children to school in the car daily. How dare he was driving too fast idk about speeding but too fast (likely speeding) it's hard to tell if you're not behind someone with a speedo on the car.
Then I said I found his car to be worrying as it cuts out. Perplexed as how not caught. I suspect he is driving it in the estate area he lives with no ANPR. If he hurts some one or damaged a car which he will ultimately, the other party will pay since any insurance would be void.

I have logged with police but I find it unacceptable his has kids in this car. Police said I should discuss with head teacher. I feel like a snitch.

AIBU to call her to discuss or have a quick chat next week?

Thanks

I spoke to 101 said he

He's such a knob isn't he

I'm very frustrated

It's a safeguarding issue that those kids are in that car!!

I am deputy safeguarding lead and this whole thing is arse about tit.

In the norm the school reports a safeguarding concern to SS/the police. Not the police telling the reporter to tell the school.

The police should have contacted the school not sent you.

The chain of escalation seems to have been weirdly inverted putting a member of the public in a strange situation.

Not on at all.

@TheSeedsOfADream

So if I called her again today is that out of order

Should I ring them again and let them know

I don't know why the police sent a text Saying if I wished to support a prosecution against the driver

I definitely don't want to get involved

Like wise I don't want him running over my kid or anyone else's for that matter

Or crashing into my car when he has no insurance!!!

@Elieza

Really interesting suggestion

His drive way where I think he lives is full of broken cars

I don't know what to advise tbh. It just seems so weird it's all been dumped on you.
I'm just thinking that if we were told a parent was doing this, we'd inform the police (dangerous driving putting not only his own children but others at risk) and then we'd (maybe foolishly!) think they'd deal with it. If we already had safeguarding concerns SS would probably already been involved or at least aware anyway. But the driving/car really is nothing to do with the school once the police are involved. It just looks like they don't want to be!
Sorry can't be of any more help. Bit flummoxed really.

@TheSeedsOfADream

Yes I agree too it is bizarre. The thing is, it's safeguarding because I would wonder what else the family are or aren't doing to keep their children safe? Do you know what I mean? I mean the family are really loud and unhinged, they will be on the schools radar.

So I'll call the HT again today

Ask her to walk down and have a look maybe because idk what else to suggest.

I did hear her telling another parent yesterday the car seats in her car were not safe and said she needed to change them ASAP. But I don't know what context that was in. That lady has a mobility issue and so parks in the teachers car park every morning
She's also very loud too 🤪
