To think this is just awful and uncalled for

I was taking DD to school this morning and there were a group of women standing at the gates (obviously parents who had just left their kids off to school themselves) talking very loudly and I don’t know what or who they were talking about, but they were swearing and cursing, I heard the words “oh she’s a f#cking c#nt”

There were other parents walking by and even more concerning, there were lots of children about, walking in through the schools gates.

They were loud enough that I could hear them while I was sitting in my car across the road with my window down.

AIBU to think it’s just wrong to do this outside a school when there are children about?

It's horrible isn't it. Not appropriate around children IMO

Report it to the school. My kids primary had to put it the newsletter about swearing in the playground. It did stop most of it. They also stopped mobile use as well, this was were most of the swearing was.

SmellsLikeFeet · 25/09/2020 14:09

It's outside the school @nettytree. They can ask but there's not much the school can do about it

LavenderSatin · 25/09/2020 14:10

That’s super inappropriate, no need for it!

Plussizejumpsuit · 25/09/2020 14:12

I love a good swear but this is a bit much!

StephenKong · 25/09/2020 14:13

Definitely report to the school. They should and hopefully will insist that they refrain from gathering outside.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 25/09/2020 14:15

If itscoutsidecthexschool gates at drop off or pick up time the school would get involved. Probably an email outcto ask people to watch their language.

BatShite · 25/09/2020 14:17

Stories like this baffle me. I am a very sweary person, but would certainly not be speaking in such language very loudly around kids! Maybe they are fine with their kdis swearing, but others won't be.

I have t admit though I find it hard not to let the odd swear word slip, even when in company of kids. But thats quite different to having a loud convo and swearing like that right beside the school like..a but of self awareness is maybe needed for these wome.

Coquohvan · 25/09/2020 14:18

Unfortunately that type of language is getting more prevalent in all settings.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 25/09/2020 14:18

It wouldn't bother me tbh. Kids hear swearing all the time. If they repeat the words then it's my job to tell my kids not to repeat them and why.

It wouldn't bother you?! Well, it would bother most people, and it's bothering op.

OP asked for opinions and I gave mine 🤷‍♀️

RoSEbuds6 · 25/09/2020 14:30

Unfortunately there is a lot of swearing around these days (god that makes me sound old!) and there's not a huge amount you can do about it. On the bus, walking in the park, supermarket queue...
I just told my DD that they were bad words that we didn't use and she accepted that.

My kids don't hear swearing all the time. They still think the worst word is poo. The only one they hear is crap, from their grandparent who uses it in place of poo a bit too often.
StephenKong · 25/09/2020 14:41

The "hearing it everywhere" is a bit of a red herring, anyway. They shouldn't have to hear it from a bunch of halfwitted women hanging round the school gates as they go into class.

There are people who like that AROUND and TO their own kids. They're not going to give a Castlemaine XXXX about doing in front of someone else's.

Quackersandcheese3 · 25/09/2020 14:43

It’s quite cringey.

Justaboy · 25/09/2020 14:45

Simple answer make all the naughty swear words commplace ones so then they will loose their impact and that will be that!

No more sweary words:)

So what will all on MN do then as sweary words are commonplace here so i suppose they'll only invent do some new ones:(

Nope!, as you were then fuck it!!

nosswith · 25/09/2020 14:46

Awful, and the school should be concerned if there is a gathering outside that does not respect social distancing. More chance of the virus spreading and then teachers getting it.

Anordinarymum · 25/09/2020 14:49

You and your children will hear swearing like this in other places. Your children will know it is unpleasant and know those people are not their kind of people.
Just ignore. It's what I do

Beautiful3 · 25/09/2020 14:49

Oh that is disgusting language to use, close to school. Report to the office and ask them to include in their newsletter.

Of course they don't, which is why the school need to tell them to take it elsewhere. They can, and if they've anything about them, they will.
justasking111 · 25/09/2020 14:54

They should not be congregating at the gates anyway. Our school are firm on that. Report to school saying that they are doing this as well as using bad language around the children.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/09/2020 14:55

It’s horrible.
Nobody needs to tell me that chav is a loathed word on MN but this sort of behaviour screams chav!

Or ‘common as muck’ as one of my GMs would have put it.
