Police scanning cars in a retail park to make sure shoppers are local

It's started.

South Wales police present in a retail/supermarket car park are scanning cars to make sure that people aren't shopping there from outside the area!

Coming soon to a supermarket near you no doubt!

@TheFutureMrsB
Yes, I’m pretty sure it’s the same place as that’s what I saw too- looked like a police CCTV van. I wondered if it was anything COVID related or for something different. Interesting! My friend works in the local police station so I’ll have to remember to ask her about it.

Also I live and work in two different lockdown boroughs and have never been stopped but I wonder if they’ll be stricter with the checks this weekend.

Emmelina · 25/09/2020 15:55

I’m not surprised, honestly. Nobody is supposed to enter or leave the area without very good reason, this could further the spread in an already hot area. Popping to MacArthur glen isn’t an essential trip.

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 25/09/2020 15:56

Hopefully they’re checking MOT, tax and insurance at the same time

DilysPrice · 25/09/2020 16:11

Yes, I think someone said upthread that they are checking and catching a lot of people while they’re at it.

The first rule of traffic policing is that all forms of law-breaking are strongly correlated with all other forms of law-breaking. Get the uninsured drivers off the road and you bring down the road deaths. If you want to catch armed robbers you can start by looking in the boots of men who’ve parked as if yellow lines are purely ornamental (possibly an exaggeration but not that much).

There is no Hotel Chocolat in RCT. Luckily I stockpiled for Brexit. Grin

Hoppyhops · 25/09/2020 16:20

@Feminist10101 Ahh, I don’t think we’re talking about the same place as there’s no Asda in the place I’d seen police.

Feminist10101 · 25/09/2020 16:22

CRP?

Capital Retail Park?

Runnerduck34 · 25/09/2020 16:29

Mmm sounds a bit too big brotherish . I honestly think there could be much better use of police time, but its probably easier than catching serious criminals.

Happytobeme123 · 25/09/2020 16:30

@Bluewavescrashing

New Road bad!
Whats all this, we'll have no trouble here!
They're strangers.
Local?

Police won’t be fining people unless they are persistent offenders, and there’s really a place for police educating people about where the borders are, in the past few days there have been loads of questions in the local hubs about x being in Bridgend - there’s a post with 300+ comments discussing whether Ogmore-by-sea is in Bridgend or not Hmm even residents commenting saying they pay council tax to VoG hasn’t convinced some, so maybe the police will Grin
