Posting here for traffic as I cant find the answer anywhere.
Does anyone have any information on if a teacher lives with someone who finds out they have covid19 does the teacher have to have a test themselves regardless of symptoms?
Or do they just self isolate and only get a test if they have symptoms?

'And false negatives will make things worse rather than better as people will think they are safe / not spreading it.'

I was replying to that part of your post, they shouldnt think they are safe and not spreading it as they would have to isolate anyway, so it cant make things worse.

As far as I know, there have been no documented cases of teachers catching it from pupils or vice versa.

I’m totally not getting the point you are trying to make???

I think the point the OP is trying to make is that it would be good/sensible to know if the teacher has it, but is asymptomatic, as then the precautions could be taken knowing their school bubble has been exposed.

The teacher would still have to isolate even if negative.

If we had the testing capacity it would make sense, but we don't.

I've just been tested (nhs worker with symptoms) dh is a teacher he had to isolate with me. His HR said if my test is negative he can work unless he has symptoms. If I'm positive he has to isolate for 14 day

HR are correct I'm sure. If you're negative there'd be no need to isolate.

You have symptoms so should be tested.
Until a test result is returned you both isolate.
If your result is negative you may both return to work, though you should only return when feeling well.
If the test is positive you should isolate for ten days from the start of symptoms, and your Dh 14 days from the start of your symptoms.

Soola

How could they prove it?
Teachers have definitely caught Covid.
Pupils have definitely caught Covid.
Many people have no idea who they caught it from.

Well they have lots of research on other cases, where one person in an office / restaurant / factory / at a wedding / in a ski resort / in a choir spread the virus to dozens of others.

So If teachers really are super spreaders, I’m guessing that someone would have researched it by now. There’s a lot of teachers and school kids around the globe.

Personally I would have thought that teachers are less likely than the average person to have it or spread it. Because

They are more Intelligent and better educated than average
They are more likely to washing hands and wear a mask
They are usually prosocial So more likely to follow lockdown rules
They rarely spend more that 15 mins sitting close to one person face to face At work
They deal with many people all day at work and not a few for a long time
They are normally exposed to lots of cough and colds
They are very aware of any respiratory symptoms because they have to talk all day
They are less likely to be in poor health or elderly

I have no evidence for any of the above BTW it’s just my opinion.
