If a teacher has lives with someone covid positive do they have to have a test regardless of not having symptoms?

Posting here for traffic as I cant find the answer anywhere.
Does anyone have any information on if a teacher lives with someone who finds out they have covid19 does the teacher have to have a test themselves regardless of symptoms?
Or do they just self isolate and only get a test if they have symptoms?

I have been working about half a metre away. (Her desk is opposite mind), from a girl monday morning, for a full hour. She tested positive for COVID. I am not allowed a test ‘just in case’

Also I don’t need to self isolate apparently, and have been told by my head I am absolutely expected to be in. so if I have it, then any kids I teach tomorrow will also be at risk.

Mistressiggi · 24/09/2020 20:59

I agree flowerpot, if you can know sooner that could prevent further spread. But, would also mean more isolating which causes its own problems.
I am glad teachers where I am can request tests. I know there are other occupations that receive regular tests (care home staff, some medical staff) the more testing the better from my perspective.

Mistressiggi · 24/09/2020 21:00

Tunnocks what rule are they following? Surely track and trace would view you as a contact?

uglyface · 24/09/2020 21:09

Finding it very amusing reading all the posts insisting that teachers have no right to tests and should self isolate for 14 days.

Cue the next thread, all about an OP being peed off that their child’s class bubble have closed due to their teacher self isolating and no money/qualified adults to cover....

MomToTwoBabas · 24/09/2020 21:23

What a dumb post. How do you not know. Everyone bloody knows.

Tunnocks34 · 24/09/2020 21:25

@Mistressiggi no clue. Apparently because her desk faces sideways, there is no risk. Coronavirus can only move forwards, apparently.

DaveMinion · 24/09/2020 21:26

Nhs workers don’t get tests and have to isolate for 14 days so why would teachers? You can take 14 days to get symptoms anyway so they are pointless unless you have symptoms.

Why do you have to be so bumptious? It makes you sound like a bit of a twat.

For all those saying your occupation doesn't matter for testing.. Since the start employers of keyworkers have been able to register to book priority tests.

Theres a hierarchy of health care workers, then teachers etc then other key workers such as food production/bin men etc.

Mistressiggi · 24/09/2020 21:31

Admittedly I don't know many nhs workers, but the doctors I know are getting regular tests. So it's not accurate to say "nhs workers" can't get tests without symptoms.
Why are there not enough bloody tests? Is it the same reason there wasn't enough PPE?

Mistressiggi · 24/09/2020 21:33

Tunnocks that is completely insane. Are you in Scotland? (Name!) I would fire an email of to your union secretary.

savetti · 24/09/2020 21:33

Testing doesn’t get you out of 14 day isolation. It could incubate til day 13.

OverTheRubicon · 24/09/2020 21:35

Nobody asymptomatic needs to get a test regardless of who else has tested positive. They self isolate for two weeks and test if they develop symptoms.

This. Do people actually read any of the guidance before posting here?

Tunnocks34 · 24/09/2020 21:36

@Mistressiggi no just addicted to the tunnocks wafers! I am going to contact my Union I think. Covid spreading rapidly though out school and he have 4/5 year groups at home currently!

Yes but it only kicks in when you have symptoms.

There’s still no need for a test unless you have symptoms.

Does anyone read the posts suggesting why it might be a good idea to know as early as possible if you have symptoms?
Flowerpot345 · 24/09/2020 21:41

@Tunnocks34 thats ridiculous!

I agree @uglyface

And thanks for saying exactly what I thought @SaltyAndFresh 😂

Yikes, even if you haven't symptoms

Doggybiccys · 24/09/2020 21:49

The test doesnt really work unless you have a decent viral load so if you’ve no symptoms it’s poitntless. It doesn’t matter which MNetter says “but surely bit would mean keeping teachers in school” - NO! If you live with some one who tests positive you isolate. End of.

Flowerpot345 · 24/09/2020 21:51

I agree Mistressiggi.

OP posts:
Doggybiccys · 24/09/2020 21:53

@Mistressiggi - the point is you wouldn’t know as early as possible as there is an incubation period before your viral load will be high enough to show positive. Think of it like a pregnancy test - if you do it the night after you conceive, it will come up negative but you’ll still Be pregnant. You won’t get a positive until the hormone levels reach a certain level. And false negatives will make things worse rather than better as people will think they are safe / not spreading it.

Flowerpot345 · 24/09/2020 21:56

Not really Doggybiccy as they would still self isolate anyway as they have to as they live with someone with it, so it cant make things worse.

OP posts:
Flowerpot345 · 24/09/2020 22:00

My thoughts were that yes the teacher is self isolating but whos to say the teacher didnt catch it from the class and pass it to the relative they live with? Lets face it kids suffer less with it so you wouldnt really know, So when/if the class can get a new supply teacher it will just transfer to them.

I’m totally not getting the point you are trying to make???
Sewrainbow · 24/09/2020 22:03

I've just been tested (nhs worker with symptoms) dh is a teacher he had to isolate with me. His HR said if my test is negative he can work unless he has symptoms. If I'm positive he has to isolate for 14 days
