Just that really. Posting here for traffic.

After a conversation with my mother we both agreed that people who have actually personally lost someone due to Covid are more likely to take it more seriously. Have you lost someone? Has this affected your attitude towards the virus and your own behaviour?

The father of a friend who lived in London has sadly died from Covid.

frazzledasarock · 25/09/2020 15:52

Yes a friend who was a school mum, she was a lovely woman and left behind young devastated children.

I've known people who've had covid-19 and are still struggling with recovery, and my Dc had it in March and has recovered, but it was terrifying when she had it and I had to watch her struggle to breathe.

CoopsMalloops · 25/09/2020 16:28

No I don’t know anyone who has had it but I still follow the rules.

Fearicecream · 25/09/2020 16:34

Yes!
A family friends died 10 days after giving birth to her daughter.

maddy68 · 25/09/2020 16:54

Yes. Three family members and a friend died 2 others are still very unwell but recovering 1 had very mild symptoms

I know 2 youngish people who have had it and are fine and I know secondhand of a handful who have died (all elderly). I think everyone's attitude to Covid is influenced by their general attitude to risk and what they personally perceive that risk to be.

I am wearing a mask, sanitizing, social distancing and following the arbitrary rule of 6 but I'm also going to the gym, on public transport and to my job in schools. I think a reliable safe vaccine is years away and we have to learn to live with the virus. I'm very glad all the older generation in my family are already dead.

I'm also fed up with being patronised by government ministers who caught Covid themselves because they ignored their own rules but refuse to take the blame for anything.

lasttimeround · 25/09/2020 20:24

No but I remind myself of what it must be like to have lost someone whenever I feel tempted to decide x or y rule can be bent. So we stay careful and compliant. If v v fed up

Yes, my mum's neighbour. He had died in April. My DM was quite shaken up by it. A workmate lost her stepdad then too.

My friend also had it but a mild version of it and had recovered fully. Another friend's friend had it in May. Is only 40 but is now walking with a stick, still not right. This woman was healthy prior to catching it too. This is why I follow the rules as you just don't know how you will react to it plus would hate to give it to an elderly or vulnerable person or anyone really.

brimfullofasha · 25/09/2020 21:02

Yes, I know someone who died. I take it seriously but I think I would have anyway.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 25/09/2020 21:20

Yes in my professional life. We discharged a patient to a care home which later had an outbreak and they died.

The patient was discharged before it all kicked off but it was a very sad case and to think her life ended so quickly is very upsetting.
No one could have known when she was discharged what was coming but it is sad. For reasons I can't go in to, I will never forget this patient and their story was the most tragic I have ever been involved with.

I have always taken it seriously because of the vulnerable patients I work with so it didn't change anything, just brought in to very sharp focus what could happen.

TheGinGenie · 25/09/2020 21:20

I have, very early on before lockdown but I'm quite relaxed about it and I think we have to get on and live our lives. My uncle would have felt the same

Dogsaresomucheasier · 25/09/2020 21:53

Yes. 3 dead and two struggling with recovery from “long Covid.” My social circle is dominated by keyworkers.
