I'm sure he speaks very highly of me! Grin I really enjoy his recipes but the more I see of him and Jools on tv I don't know he creeps me out a bit..can't put my finger on it. Anyone else?

@daisyjgrey

On the ex publicist ask me anything thread.

That's not evidence, that's rumours and gossip Hmm

BlueJava · 24/09/2020 13:10

I don't like his recipes to be honest, I think there are others who get far more flavour in. I find his stuff a bit "old hat". Never ever thought about him in any other light - eurgh!

AriettyHomily · 24/09/2020 13:12

I used to really like him. Cant listen to him saying

Per-ter-ter anymore

IntermittentParps · 24/09/2020 13:13

Yes, that's always a good rule to follow isn't it? Grin Hmm

Thymeout · 24/09/2020 13:14

I'd give him a knighthood for what he's done to improve school meals, both here and in the USA, and to encourage novices to take up cooking. The 15 restaurants were a brilliant idea. Candidates were chosen because they needed help to get their lives on track. He was in a remedial stream because he's dyslexic and it was a way of giving back. And he doesn't just disappear when the series is over. He's forever badgering the govt., most recently on sugary drinks.

So he calls his wife 'the missus'. What's wrong with that? Mumnsnet can be so snobbish at times. And it's not a mockney accent. He's born and bred an Essex boy.

I know nothing about his private life, nor, I suspect do you. I'm surprised he has time to shag Jools, let alone anyone else.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 24/09/2020 13:15

I use his books all the time. I find them very reliable. Seems a nice enough fella on TV. Never really understood why he gets such a bashing here.

Londonmummy66 · 24/09/2020 13:18

I find it a bit weird that the current show only involves the boys and one (silent) girl

MrsKingfisher · 24/09/2020 13:27

I'm amused at how uppity those who have never met him love him so much get when something negative is said. Grin

OP posts:
AdelaideK · 24/09/2020 13:32

It's not being uppity to say he may not be a serial shagger just because one person on mumsnet said it.

Allaboutthepizza · 24/09/2020 13:34

I don't have any problem with him as a person and I do think he's done a lot of good work towards promoting healthy food etc. However, his incessant need to cook everything outside is bizarre. Fine if you're cooking bread/pizza in an outdoor oven or grilling meat over flames, but making pancakes, or a cottage pie, what's that about? Completely ridiculous!

blubberball · 24/09/2020 13:34

Meh. He's OK.

I think that he did try really hard when the schools were serving crap to kids. School dinners seem to be a lot better now than in the late 90s.

Lottapianos · 24/09/2020 13:38

I really like him too. I like his recipes and I like that he genuinely cares about improving people's health, and carries on despite getting a ton of shit for his troubles. Yes he can be a bit irritating but that's hardly the end of the world, and I love his enthusiasm about food.

Dont know anything about the serial shagger stuff, but really disappointed to hear that so many people found him rude and arrogant in dealings with him

ParisianLady · 24/09/2020 13:39

I like his recipes although his portions are tiny.

I never watch his tv programmes and have no opinion on any of his alleged recreational shagging.

ClaudiaWankleman · 24/09/2020 13:42

You’re talking to someone who was born in and has lived in Essex their whole life - it’s a mockney accent. He’s not speaking Estaury English, and he’s not from the estuary area anyway. He’s from rural north west Essex.

It drives me mad that he pronounces onions as ‘ung-yons’ too.

5foot5 · 24/09/2020 13:43

Well I must be in a minority on this thread but I like watching him on the TV and find nothing creepy or irritating about him. I have tried some of the recipes from his current series (though sausage and mash pie does just turn back in to sausage and mash when you try to get it out of the dish and put it on the plate) and have a few of his books too.

However, his incessant need to cook everything outside is bizarre. Fine if you're cooking bread/pizza in an outdoor oven or grilling meat over flames, but making pancakes, or a cottage pie, what's that about? Completely ridiculous!

But it looks so good on the screen! That lovely garden with the kids running about is a more interesting backdrop then an indoors kitchen.

LadySeaThing · 24/09/2020 13:43

I don't dislike him saying "missus" on a snobby class basis, it's the way he talks about her like she's a kind of baby-popping wifey support system. Like being his "missus" is the point of her existence. To be fair I haven't read everything he's ever said about her, it's just that tendency has annoyed me.

daisyjgrey · 24/09/2020 13:45

If I had the land and the money to have a kitchen shed and outside space to make dinner, I'd do it. Plus, less sweeping afterwards.

Anordinarymum · 24/09/2020 13:51

The OP said she found him a bit odd. I responded accordingly. Thank you :)

And he's fat, so bugger the healthy eating 'cos he isn't obviously :)

Rafflesway · 24/09/2020 13:52

I've got nothing against him other than finding him a little hyperactive but, unfortunately, I couldn't eat any of his recipes.

I hate Italian food anyway and he seems lost without lashings of garlic, olive oil and lemon juice in everything. 🤮

WarriorsComeOutToPlayay · 24/09/2020 13:56

There seems to be a Jamie Oliver bashing thread every month on Mumsnet. I don’t understand why he gets so much venom, if you don’t like him don’t watch his shows.

Winecheesesleep · 24/09/2020 13:58

I like him and love his recipes. Some of my staple meals I've been cooking regularly for years are his.

I'm a bit disappointed about the stories of him being rude to people though, I didn't think he was like that.

CeliaCanth · 24/09/2020 13:59

I reckon it is a mockney accent. His sister’s very well spoken Smile

Quickchange5 · 24/09/2020 14:01

I don’t like his recipes to be honest - I think they are too expensive as he over complicates them - I was particularly irritated by the patronising lockdown programmes he did ... I hadn’t registered till reading this thread - but the spitting all over the food thing really irritates me too

unchienandalusia · 24/09/2020 14:05

I've met him. Worked with him filming for a day. He was lovely. Polite, helpful, willing. Maybe those saying he's rude aren't very polite themselves.

Also I will not take some random on the internet as evidence he's a serial shagger. That's just dreadful!
