Name changed for this as apparently it’s an unpopular opinion; but I think it’s important to protect our children.

Please can I encourage you to send a letter like this into all your children’s schools.

Dear Headteacher

I am writing to inform you that (Child Name) is exempt from wearing a face covering of any kind, as per government legislation.

There are many exemptions from wearing a face mask, which incorporate hidden disabilities, including but not limited to:

(I) because of any physical or mental impairment or illness or disability (Section 6 of the equality act 2010)

(II) without severe distress

Section 6 of the equality act states that schools must not discriminate against a student because of their disability.

I am concerned that my child will be singled out for not wearing a mask and would like to remind you that this is also discriminatory.

(Childs Name) is under no obligation to provide proof of this exemption and is protected from doing so by the Data Protection Act 2018

I have also sent a copy of this letter to our solicitors.

Kind Regards
(Your Name)

Your good intentions to your son are totally misguided OP.

You do your child no favours by butting into their life and rubbing their teachers and peers up the wrong way.

Of course he took in the letter. Your his mum and he thinks you have his best intentions at heart. The poor kid knows no different. I feel really sorry for him.

IceCreamSummer20 · 22/09/2020 18:16

Also, my DS is young and has severe SN. He wears a mask on public transport. Honestly if he can do it, almost all people can!

LolaSmiles · 22/09/2020 18:17

Oh joy, another hysterical parent who thinks they're big and clever for sending a letter to school that they've probably seen copied and pasted on Facebook. Hmm

The children who are exempt are exempt. No parent at my school has been an arsehole about their child's genuine exemption, in fact the only people I know who are behaving like arseholes and think they're big and clever for sending stupid letters are people who wouldn't know what a genuine disability is if it hit them in the face.

thiap · 22/09/2020 18:18

You are just delightful OP, I'm sure any vulnerable teachers in the school will be thrilled that you care so little about their right to safe workplace 👍🏻

IsurvivedbutdidI · 22/09/2020 18:18

Mental Confused

IsurvivedbutdidI · 22/09/2020 18:21

I would be too embarrassed to send this. If I did have a problem with face masks then I would go in and talk to the school. Not send some half baked bullshit 'legal' notice to them.

Happygirl79 · 22/09/2020 18:21

I feel sorry for your son
You are setting him up for a fall when he grows up and finds out the world doesn't revolve round him

pink1173 · 22/09/2020 18:23

Unbelievable. Who likes wearing a mask? Nobody. In other countries EVERYONE wears them regardless and they don’t have lists of exemptions. No wonder we are in a pandemic. Thanks to all the fab kids in my school wearing masks with no fuss I am able to feel a little bit safer in my workplace.

FrankieDoyle · 22/09/2020 18:23

What a pathetic letter. You're doing your son no favours at all.
YABU

Pumpkinnose · 22/09/2020 18:26

Utterly ridiculous! The school have got enough to be dealing with without letters like this!!

Dominicgoings · 22/09/2020 18:28

Did you send the one about objecting to forced vaccinations as well? C&Pd from Fissbook natch Wink

Punxsutawney · 22/09/2020 18:28

Ds is autistic, so would be allowed an exemption. At the moment though he seems to be okay with the mask, so he's wearing it when needed.

I certainly wouldn't be mentioning solicitors, a simple email would suffice. But then most parents of a child with additional needs will tell you there are normally far bigger battles to be fighting than wearing a mask in school.

HoboSexualOnslow · 22/09/2020 18:28

I'm cringing so hard this is HILARIOUS

DeliciouslyFemale · 22/09/2020 18:29

My youngest has SN and Autism, but has practiced wearing a mask for weeks so she can protect her classmates. She and her four classmates are in a bubble and all five of them are vulnerable, yet are able to show more consideration and compassion for each other and the tutors, I’m seeing from you, OP. It just goes to show that it’s not the children/adults with SN/autism that are the ones with problems, it’s the so called neurotypical dick heads in the world around them.

LovelyLovelyMe · 22/09/2020 18:29

You are a very silly woman but, worse than that, the whole school now knows that you are a very silly woman.

What a pompous, stuffy very silly letter written by a very silly person with no legal training.

Of course, the school gave your son a pass-payment for the laugh you gave them and because the thought of you charging up to the school, umbrella and bogus law parchment rolled under your arm, would be just too much.

HoboSexualOnslow · 22/09/2020 18:30

@Happygirl79

I feel sorry for your son You are setting him up for a fall when he grows up and finds out the world doesn't revolve round him
But it does dontcha know, here's my letter stating so. It has also gone to my solicitors stamps feet
NoGinNotComingIn · 22/09/2020 18:31

You are such a self centred twonk, I mean. You do realise there’s a global pandemic, yet your poor little snowflake who has nothing wrong with him doesn’t like wearing a mask so you’ve wrote a ridiculous letter so he gets an exemption pass when there is no reason (there doesn’t appear to be one in any of your posts). You’ve even tried to play the mental health card 🙄, not wanting to wear a mask isn’t the same as having a mental illness which prevents you from wearing one.

There will be teachers and children in your child’s school that are vulnerable, you are actively encouraging other parents to write letters so their kids don’t have to wear masks therefore increasing the risks for these vulnerable people, WHY? I don’t get it? What are you trying to prove?

PutThemInTheIronMaiden · 22/09/2020 18:31

I'm exhausted dealing with fucking morons.

ivykaty44 · 22/09/2020 18:32

your child doesn't have to wear a mask - they could wear a shield, its a face covering not a mask

overnightangel · 22/09/2020 18:34

Moron

HollyGoLoudly1 · 22/09/2020 18:35

@DeliciouslyFemale

Name changed for this as apparently it’s an unpopular opinion; but I think it’s important to protect our children.

But you don’t actually care about anyone else’s child, OP, do you? You only care about your child and the fact that you’ve managed to manipulate the rules to suit you. You don’t give a shit that there will be vulnerable children and teachers that have a higher risk of catching the virus from the children who simply don’t like wearing them, as opposed those who genuinely can’t. Well don’t for getting one over on the school. slow hand clap 👏🏼

This in SPADES. We have more than enough to deal with right now, what with a global pandemic, months of missed lessons, and some genuinely distressed/unwell/damaged/disadvantaged children as a result.

A letter threatening/implying legal action because a teacher dared to ask your son about a mask?? Give over. I'm not an HT, just a lowly teacher. You and your son are probably the laughing stock if the school right now, and you've achieved nothing except causing a bit of extra admin for the pass. I'm not sure why you're so proud of this.

DeliciouslyFemale · 22/09/2020 18:36

@ivykaty44

your child doesn't have to wear a mask - they could wear a shield, its a face covering not a mask
No it’s not! Masks help prevent your spit and particles from spreading, especially when you cough, to protect those around you. A shield protects the wearer from spit from other people. That’s why those working with infectious diseases wear both. That’s also why the young adults in my daughter’s special needs classes try to wear both, when moving around the college.
tink09 · 22/09/2020 18:36

WTF have I just read! Maybe start thinking about the teachers and other students and stop being so selfish..... in reality very few people can’t actually use a face covering

Procrastination4 · 22/09/2020 18:38

Don’t be an idiot, OP.

yolio · 22/09/2020 18:39

I wouldn't get too annoyed. It is obvious to me that OP posted for a reaction.

And boy did she get it.
