Mine involves a permanently clean house, probably a cottage- I have a squashy armchair, coffee pot always on the go and a good book- I have a huge bed with loads of cushions and duvets and quilts. There's quiet, and whatever I want to eat (or not if I just want cereal)
I'd miss DP terribly- I really do love him but I like my little fantasy

Ha ha, not just me then. I love my family with all my heart, but I have a fantasy pretty little Devon home with mooring for my rowing boat. I am somehow slim and glamorous - obviously, and rather randomly I speak fluent Italian!

crochetmonkey74 · 22/09/2020 12:46

Whenever I am in need of an escape I think of it- wandering about in a city by myself, it's a pretty city like Edinburgh or York- I meander home- the fire is lit, the lamps are on (magically as I live by myself)
I have a delicious cake under a glass dome in the kitchen ready for me to help myself to a nice slice. I sort of cosily float about in vintage silk dressing gowns or cashmere loungewear or a stylish mix of both.
I write letters or catch up my day in my big leather diary curled up in my armchair. Also deep baths, nice candles and just all the time and quiet in the world! I know in reality, I would also have a job - argghh I miss my single life !

I’m an event planner living in the City, living in a lovely big townhouse, work is busy with organising large scale events and social life is cocktails and theatre and fancy events.

Mumtobe241 · 22/09/2020 12:58

Nope. I know I would get lonely within about two days. I do sometimes reminisce about child free holidays, though....

Unsuremover · 22/09/2020 13:01

I have a loft apartment in a big city. Tiny galley kitchen and a balcony just big enough for plant pots. Grown up children pop in when they have news or want advice. There’s not a tv.

Occasionally have people round for wine and cheese but mainly I enjoy solitude.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/09/2020 13:04

A very small well kept bungalow (even though I'm only 35, I like future proofing).

Lots of light, easy to clean, small easy to maintain garden, driveway. No pets - dh could take them with him.

Spare room for the dc to visit. Utility room. Blankets everywhere.

PeskyRooks · 22/09/2020 13:22

I have a whole pinterest board devoted to my other life..the sort of houses I would live in, all very remote like on the Shetland islands, my library, my garden, the fat tabby cat I would have, the donkeys in the paddock, even the jumpers I would wear when I'm freewheeling down the windy country lanes on my bike with a basket on the front....

crochetmonkey74 · 22/09/2020 13:25

ooh pesky I might copy you

This thread has made me realise how incredibly fortunate I am to be single and to live in a pretty little house a five minute walk from the beach. WFH in a job I love.

I have the book reading, wafting, and fabulous luxury of never having to compromise. However, I do appear to be missing a labrador and no strings sex with muscular men.

Labrador will be priority Grin

crochetmonkey74 · 22/09/2020 13:35

oh cuppy tell us more - I want to live vicariously!

In mine, I live in a fabulous central apartment in a city, New York is my favourite. I’m magically ten years and ten pounds lighter, as well as 4inches taller. Then everything else that has already been said!

Shikamiri · 22/09/2020 13:56

OMG this is actually a thing? I thought i was the only one who had these daydreams Smile

I live in a beautiful mansion flat, just enough room for me, with solid oak flooring and its all painted off white. massive sofa, fire place and plush velvet curtains. I have a lovely balcony with a little table and two chairs where I eat brie and french bread for nearly every meal ( there are no carb restrictions in my daydreams) and read my Kindle. I have a cute congenial old neighbour who comes out on his balcony to water his plants and he always gives me a little smile and wave. I dont have a TV and there is always background music playing. Most importantly, NOBODY knows where I live!

TwoZeroTwoZero · 22/09/2020 13:59

I live in a modernised, renovated farm house with colourful walls and big windows that let huge amounts of light in. I have a terrace/huge patio outside my dining room and a balcony outside my bedroom. It's a 4 bed house but I live alone so one room is my sewing room, one is dedicated to photography and one is a cosy reading room. It's clean, tidy and free of clutter. Everything has its place and is put away straight after use. There are no stains, marks on the walls or big piles of crap on every surface. It's quiet and peaceful. Dh is a regular visitor but not living with me, making a mess.

TokyoSushi · 22/09/2020 14:05

@PeskyRooks one of my favorite things to do is look at houses on Shetland on Rightmove, it all just look so wild & peaceful!

Terrace58 · 22/09/2020 14:07

I live somewhere foggy and I have a screened in porch. Every morning I sit in my porch, drinking my coffee, enjoying the chill and the fog. I love fog and we get it here so seldom.

pinkyboots1 · 22/09/2020 14:11

In my fantasy single life I live in an airy but cosy flat in Oban that looks out sea, I watch the ferries and boats coming and going, I eat freshly caught crab and drink whisky cream. Sometimes I have shortbread and milk for breakfast just because I can !

PeskyRooks · 22/09/2020 15:11

TokyoSushi Same! And they are so incredibly cheap!

Besom · 22/09/2020 15:19

I live abroad in a stunning loft apartment- don't really care where - and I probably do instagram posts about how incredibly glamorous I am. Or the campervan one. I like that too. Depends what mood I'm in.

lachy · 22/09/2020 16:28

Before DH and DD I made a point of going away for the weekend every 6 weeks or so.

I'd head off to Wales on a Thursday after work, and spend three days just walking the beach, napping, star gazing, reading by the fire and I loved every second. Didn't eat anything boring or sensible - it was all lovely stuff from the local deli.

I'd love to do it again but I'd probably miss my gruesome twosome.

(@NameChange84 I was 38 when I met DH, and I totally understand where you are coming from)

TokyoSushi · 22/09/2020 16:45

@PeskyRooks So cheap! We could get a massive remote mansion there! My work has shut the office and we are permanent WFH, if it wasn't for pesky DH & the DC, I'd be there! Grin

whatswithtodaytoday · 22/09/2020 17:31

I love this thread, and how similar most of our fantasies are! I wonder how many women achieve this fantasy once their children/husbands/jobs are no longer a tie?

@NameChange84 I completely understand, I was in your position a few years ago and desperate for a toddler and all that goes with it. Now I have one I'm fucking exhausted, but I do truly appreciate how lucky I am.

@crochetmonkey74 For lamps lit when you get home, I highly recommend a timer! So comforting to come home in winter to a softly lit house.

crochetmonkey74 · 23/09/2020 09:12

this thread is very cosy- have started my own pinterest board!

Also, the PPs who have said about having a solo holiday/ weekend - I will definitely be adopting this into my life once Covid allows. I'll have fun choosing my little Airbnb places

Id be a permanent resident at a luxury hotel on the beach abroad. No cooking, cleaning or tidying because it would all get done for me

anotherpersontoday · 23/09/2020 09:39

I'm very happy with DH and no kids. I do have fantasies about a nicer house in nicer surroundings. Perhaps in the nice / arty part of town with lots of nice shops, bookshops, gallaries, cafes and a park on my doorstep.

Or perhaps by the sea or in the mountains.

Other than that I am alone or with DH most of the time these days anyway just reading or working on my art so its lovely.

Dishwashersaurous · 23/09/2020 10:29

I’m prime minister. Running the country really effectively without having to worry about homeschool or laundry.
