DD’s hair

Binny36 · 21/09/2020 20:39

DD is in primary school and as soon as I do her hair literally 5 minutes after it’s a mess! It’s falling down her face etc. I redo it and when I pick her up it’s again fallen half way across her face. What am I doing wrong? I’ve tried every pin, bobble and hair accessories out there. I feel very judged by other mums, their kids hair always seems to be in place. Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong and suggestions on easy hair styles for school please?

Does she have curly or wavy hair? Can you do a plait? Seriously, the other mums are not judging. Your little girl doesn’t need to worry about how neat her hair is.

Comefromaway · 21/09/2020 20:41

I’m dreadful with hair. My daughter had a neat bob through early primary school. It was a doddle To keep tidy and looked cute.

formerbabe · 21/09/2020 20:44

I don't have any advice but I really doubt anyone is judging you. I don't even notice how my dcs classmates wear their hair.

1Morewineplease · 21/09/2020 20:44

Just tie it all back . Helps with bits.

chickenyhead · 21/09/2020 20:44

Some kids are just like it I'm afraid. My daughter goes in with tight braids and comes back out as stig of the dump

Binny36 · 21/09/2020 20:45

She has very fine straight hair. There have been comments made about her hair in the past. Nothing overly rude just remarks such as her hair is in her eyes etc. I do feel judged, maybe that’s not their intention but I hate it myself seeing her hair in her face

How old is she? How does she want it? My DD (messy curls) hated having hers brushed when little so had a short bob. Long and luxuriant now she’s old enough to do it herself.

Feetupteashot · 21/09/2020 20:48

Maybe it's too clean Smile it's easier when hair's a bit dirty

Jubaju · 21/09/2020 20:49

Try something like this? These keep my daughters crazy hair in place

Potterpotterpotter · 21/09/2020 20:51

Tie it back and hair spray it

londongirl12 · 21/09/2020 20:55

Yes get the hair spray on it! Is it super soft? Maybe try not washing it as much so it isn't so smooth?

Kanaloa · 21/09/2020 20:57

She might be pulling her bobbles out on purpose messing about or doing hair with her friends. I always think if they go in tidy it doesn’t matter how they come out. If it’s really bothering you could you try bubble braids or something similar? You use lots of bobbles so maybe they wouldn’t all come out.

Findahouse21 · 21/09/2020 20:58

Tie it up damp and use gel spray. I use 'easy Toddler hairstyles' on YouTube for style ideas as she gives lots of ideas for keeping fine hair off of children's faces. They are great for kids older than toddler age too

jillandhersprite · 21/09/2020 20:58

What age is she? Mine understand that for school it needs to be out of the way of her eyes to see properly without constantly touching her face and that it needs to be in some kind of plait so she can play with friends and not worry about nits.
I tend not to care that it all gets a bit messy - they use a soft hair band quite successfully and most of the hair is in the plait.
I allow them both to look completely wild at the weekends...

Lovelivelaughcry · 21/09/2020 20:59

Another vote for hair spray!

DelurkingAJ · 21/09/2020 20:59

If it’s like mine (ultra fine and straight) then I fear you’re on a hiding to nothing...the hairdresser had to perm my hair to get it in an up do when I got married.

AdoptAdaptImprove · 21/09/2020 21:03

I have the same, straight very fine hair and as a little girl mum solved it by giving me a straight fringe, and then tightly plaiting the rest, which did stay in all day, and because of the fringe, there was nothing to get in my eyes. It worked brilliantly.

Heyahun · 21/09/2020 21:06

Oh gawd I feel your pain. I have the same hair type and I remember it always being a mess when I was young / at school! I didn’t care til I was a bit older - I think pig tail plaits used to work best for me !

Now I’m older I’ve cut it short and it’s so much neater and easier to manage

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/09/2020 21:10

I agree with hairspray, or even a tiny bit of wax.

Curiosity101 · 21/09/2020 21:13

I'm another person with fine straight hair. Bobbles fall out, hair pins, clips, you name it. I also had the issue a PP had where my hair basically needed perming to keep it in curls for my wedding day.

If you want to wash her hair every day then I recommend trying to avoid using conditioner if you can. Just make sure she has regular hair trims so you can still brush it without conditioner.

But I totally agree with PPs, hairspray is the only way to keep my hair neat if I need it to put it up. I've still not found a hair tie that will stay in, but plan to try Invisibobble at some point and see if that will stay put.

nildesparandum · 21/09/2020 21:14

I am one of four sisters. My mother would cheerfully admit she was hopeless with hair.As a result she made sure our hair was kept cut short and I mean up to our ears short. We all hated it because when I was a child girls with very short hair were thought to have been infected with head lice. This was the remedy in those days, the hair was cut very short at the clinic after the magic lotion was applied.
When we grew older and could manage it ourselves we all grew our hair long in defiance of our mother.
I don't have any daughters but have four granddaughters. They have all got long hair, they are grown up now but it was always carefully managed by my DILs.

ThreePipeProblems · 21/09/2020 21:29

Braiding milk/salt spray/wax/hairspray. Anything to give it a bit of texture basically XX

Legseleven1990 · 21/09/2020 21:30

My daughters hair is like this. Jts so fine and soft it just falls out of bobbles and clips fall out. I agree with pp saying its too clean - try and space washes out a bit more to give it a bit more grit (but before it looks greasy). Don't use conditioner or hydrating shampoos or shampoos/products that are aimed at detangling as this just makes it softer and easier for bobbles to slip out. On wash days use a bit of dry shampoo before you put her hair up for a bit more grip, and you could trying putting mousse in her hair before drying as this helps with grips too

deste · 21/09/2020 21:38

Gel first and hairspray.

SideAfries · 21/09/2020 21:39

My daughter has straight, fine hair (like me.) I put it up in a high bun, it does fall out sometimes, or just looks scruffy where it’s going loose 😬

I just don’t know OP... products just seen OTT to me, for a child? No way would DD let me cut it short either!
