To report a family friend/business re coronavirus?

mintich · 21/09/2020 14:33

A family friend I have known all my life runs a food establishment and works there full time. They live in an area with local lockdown. They havent been closed at all since the beginning of all this. Their whole family have tested positive for covid but they are refusing to get a test as they would have to close. Also they have said they have claimed furlough payments for their staff despite no staff being on furlough!
I know I should, but I dont know what's stopping me! Perhaps I feel like I'm betraying them.

How can they have tested positive and refused to be tested?

PurpleDaisies · 21/09/2020 14:39

Their whole family have tested positive for covid but they are refusing to get a test as they would have to close.

How can both those things be true?

RepeatSwan · 21/09/2020 14:39

Oh dear. I guess if you genuinely believe they are claiming furlough funding fraudulently then you should report, but you had better be very certain before doing it.

I didn't really understand the testing section!

Feefifofummmm · 21/09/2020 14:42

It sounds like the friend has never had a test but their family members have and tested positive. And by implication this friend has been exposed but refuses a test.

PurpleDaisies · 21/09/2020 14:43

And by implication this friend has been exposed but refuses a test.

You don’t need a test if you’ve been exposed. You self isolate for two weeks.

Sparklesocks · 21/09/2020 14:43

Can you clarify the tested/not tested part? Do you mean other people they live with have tested positive?

Devlesko · 21/09/2020 14:44

You have a strange grasp of the English language, is it not your first language.
You said family friend you've known all your life?

OldEvilOwl · 21/09/2020 14:47

Your post doesn't make sense

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 21/09/2020 14:54

@Devlesko

You have a strange grasp of the English language, is it not your first language. You said family friend you've known all your life?
It could be a friend of your parents' who then became your own friend as you grew up?
TheOrigRightsofwomen · 21/09/2020 14:56

@PurpleDaisies

Their whole family have tested positive for covid but they are refusing to get a test as they would have to close.

Maybe they mean everyone in the friend's family have tested positive, APART from the friend.

They don't have to get a test, but they do need to self isolate. Isn't there a 10 grand fine for people who should be but aren't SI?

TheWho67 · 21/09/2020 14:57

Perfectly clear - other family members have tested positive but the business owners don't want to test as that means they'd have to close. They are claiming furlough for employees but still making them work.
Shit people but ripping off the system and putting people's lives at risk.

TableFlowerss · 21/09/2020 14:57

I’ve just re-read the OP post, as was also confused regarding the ‘testing positive but refusing to get tested’

But I think OP means other members of their (extended) family have all tested positive, but this particular (branch of) family refuse to get tested?

namechangeinamillion · 21/09/2020 14:57

The testing bit makes no sense..

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 21/09/2020 14:57

Whatever the situation you friend sounds like an idiot.

PurpleDaisies · 21/09/2020 14:58

They don't have to get a test, but they do need to self isolate.

That’s not necessarily true either. It depends on whether they live with their family or have been contacted by track and trace.

There’s a lot of missing information here.

Fluffybutter · 21/09/2020 14:59

Oh another busybody .. how refreshing.
Planning on grassing up the neighbours next when they have a elderly relative over the magic 6?

PurpleDaisies · 21/09/2020 15:00

*Perfectly clear - other family members have tested positive but the business owners don't want to test as that means they'd have to close.
It isn’t though. You don’t get a test as a contact unless you have symptoms yourself. Have you been living with your head under a rock all week? They’ve been hammering this again and again on the news to limit the number of unnecessary tests while the system is at breaking point.

mintich · 21/09/2020 15:11

To clarify, the friends has not had a test but the rest of his family have, and all tested positive

emilyfrost · 21/09/2020 15:13

YANBU. You absolutely should report them.

mintich · 21/09/2020 15:13

....and has also continued working when he should have been in isolation.

I would.
namechangeinamillion · 21/09/2020 15:21

Were they told they had to isolate?

Fluffybutter · 21/09/2020 15:23

“ I would”
Yeah, I bet you would too ..

mintich · 21/09/2020 15:25

When his wife was tested, they advised that any other family members should isolate and be tested.
I think he is extremely selfish to not get tested especially as he not only works front of house but also prepares a lot of the food.
I suppose I'm worried that by reporting I might take down his business!

So you would be happy for people involved in your food to carry on when they should be in isolation?
