I stopped following the news two months ago. So I'm completely out of date. In starting to see posts about another lockdown.

How bad have cases got?
How bad have deaths got?
Will there be food/delivery shortages again?
Will schools be closing?

Anyone who can explain to me. I don't want to start watching it all again. Thanks.

Did you get out the wrong side of bed?

Neither have I as its depressing to watch ever day. I go on the gov.uk site and also google occasionally when people start talking about big changes on FB.

Deaths is not overly high but cases are up. Some places are in local lockdown.
The PM is expected to announce further restrictions this week. This next part is just hear say but the word on the grapevine is travel restrictions and people can only dine out with their own household. Hospitality expected to take the hit

Hope that helps. My 🤞 hoping it's not quite so harsh

11.00 am is apparently when the scientists will guide us

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 21/09/2020 07:23

its called Circuit breaking.

Pelleas · 21/09/2020 07:24

How bad have cases got?

7 day average currently 3739 and doubling every 2 weeks.

How bad have deaths got?

7 day average is 21 so still relatively low, but rising.

Will there be food/delivery shortages again?

Who knows?

Will schools be closing?

Boris has stated he intends to keep schools open.

Large parts of the country, particularly in the north of England, are now subject to tighter restrictions. A short 'circuit break' lockdown seems to be on the cards. There's to be an announcement at 11am today.

unchienandalusia · 21/09/2020 07:30

Wow. So you don't want to keep up with the news, you just want other people to bother and then summarise for you? Just wow.

Adoptthisdogornot · 21/09/2020 07:33

I think that if watching the news causes your mental health to suffer, but you realise you do actually need to know if there are going to be legal changes to how you are able to live your life, asking for some clarification is quite reasonable and sensible. Those who dont like it are welcome to scroll on no?

Heytheredelilax · 21/09/2020 07:38

@unchienandalusia

It's a forum to discuss and share. I don't like watching it as it made me miserable. Sorry that pisses you off. you literally don't need to comment if you have no desire to be helpful or kind.

@Pelleas

Thank you. The deaths are still low then but cases are definitely rising. Although testing is much higher now too isn't it.

@Screwcorona
Thank you. It just became everything all day everyday, so I stepped back. Unfortunately I think opening pubs/food places up was always a bad idea. But these places understandably need to make money.

I think constantly pulling us back then threatening us with fines if we don't take our kids to school, then threatening us if we dare mix with more than six people is the biggest problem. He's given out mixed messages all along and always threatens us.

I'd suggest you choose a reliable news source and watch today's updates and get your information first hand and as unbiased as possible

TheQueef · 21/09/2020 07:39

Just look at the beeb website why ask mnet for a summary?

Pelleas · 21/09/2020 07:40

It is, but there's recently been a shortage of tests - people being directed to drive thru tests more than 100 miles away, no postal tests available.

Nikori · 21/09/2020 07:44

OP, you posted this in AIBU. That's why people are giving their opinion on whether you are being unreasonable to ask or not.

I'm not in the UK, but I check the local government website and get the basic figures every evening. Surely no one can predict things like food shortages.

cheezy · 21/09/2020 07:54

Why is getting your news from MN any less depressing or confusing than getting it from other sources Confused

Just take two minutes to scan the headlines on a news website

Do you always require information to be spoon fed to you?

HeronLanyon · 21/09/2020 08:03

Good questions op But there are even more that you don’t even know to ask ! -

Where was boris last weekend and why is Perugia trending ?

What’s all the love for violinists suddenly on Twitter ?

Why Blackpool ? Just why ?

London’s maybe within a day or so ? Really ?

RBG rip - will the dems be further energised ?

Why 6 ?

This. Cop on, OP. You live in the world. In a pandemic.
BarbaraofSeville · 21/09/2020 08:07

Don't worry, it's all gone away now and everyone is getting a free turkey so they can have a big family Christmas. Wink

Or you could just look at the BBC news website and watch the briefing at 11 am today so you can find out what is going on.

ghostyslovesheets · 21/09/2020 08:07

You are an adult - watch the news

Sargass0 · 21/09/2020 08:08

1 in 20 kids in schools currently off- no firm plans to close any schools. according to BBC news but who knows?

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 21/09/2020 08:08

read the headlines op,
read the briefing at least
listen to the radio

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 21/09/2020 08:08

the bbc and the guardian at least do a brief update

If this wows you, you probs need to get out more. No offence
Doginabandana · 21/09/2020 08:34

I don’t think anyone finds the news and it’s relentless grimness these days easy listening but as you find you now do want to know a bit about what’s going on then it seems rather superior somehow to ask the people who are up to speed on it for a précis. It comes across as if the tough stuff is for others but not you.

I’ve known people who say they don’t ‘do’ funerals because they’re fine them upsetting. The rest of us don’t find them easy or fun but we go anyhow.

I think a daily or even weekly look at the ‘need to know’ section on the BBC news site is achievable even if it doesn’t make for cheery reading.

WiggleSquiggle · 21/09/2020 08:41

FGS get a grip people, they asked for a quick summary of the current situation, they didn’t ask you for a full breakdown of 2020 so far. If you don’t want to give one just move on you miserable sods.
I don’t watch the news as it’s depressing, I check for updates every few days so I know if my future plans are likely to go ahead.
My trip to see relatives at the weekend is currently a bit precarious it seems.
