Yes or no ?

DH telling me it is and to be prepared

Yes, but rather than say it's a national lockdown they'll just lock down every major city and say its regional. Already happening.

Lardlizard · 20/09/2020 23:24

Can you vote yanbu for yes
Or yabu for no

HauntedPencil · 20/09/2020 23:25

The regional lockdowns aren't nearly as harsh. I hope they are effective tbh, seems unfair to lockdown the south west for eg.

Definitely think greater restrictions will come. Don't think it will be as per March though.

Toilenstripes · 20/09/2020 23:26

I think it’s possible there will be a short 2nd lockdown, maybe 2 weeks to slow down transmission rates? I think they need to prepare for winter and current infections are just too high. Whether people adhere to a 2nd lockdown is another question entirely.

notdaddycool · 20/09/2020 23:28

I think if we have a second lockdown it will be hard to lift before spring, so they will do all they can to avoid it.

TheDuchessofMalfy · 20/09/2020 23:28

I’m not sure it’ll be a lockdown like before, but more restrictions certainly.

I don’t think parts of the country with low infections will go straight from what we have now to fully lockdown, bypassing what they are currently having in various cities.

Lardlizard · 20/09/2020 23:31

Papers are already reporting about shelves being stripped which will only make matters worse printing this stuff

HoneysuckIejasmine · 20/09/2020 23:32

I don't think a national lockdown is likely, it would be very damaging, and unfair on places where the case rate is low.

But I do think they'll close venues and the like in hard hit areas. Schools? Dunno.

MarshaBradyo · 20/09/2020 23:34

Not national and not schools and businesses so no

Ishihtzuknot · 20/09/2020 23:41

It’s more likely they’ll just get stricter with current rules, so from 6 people to 4,2, households only etc. I can’t see schools or businesses closing again after the damage it caused already. A curfew could be a possibility to avoid people going to pubs/clubs as it won’t be worth it if they close at 9pm for example.
I do think another strict lockdown is coming though and if so it will last all of winter. I’m so done with it now.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 20/09/2020 23:42

Local lockdowns and I think these will start to ah e tighter restrictions

National lockdown no I don’t think we will

Feelingconfused2020 · 20/09/2020 23:45

I don't think they'll fully.close schools.

I think there's justification for partially closing secondaries because the rates in that age group.are rising. They might make secondaries part time to reduce the risk. Schools.will.be expected to support children offsite. If they did this I expect they would keep secondaries open for year 7 and possibly year 8 but part time for years 9-13.

It's a theory that I have no evidence for.

No evidence that primaries need to close.

Feelingconfused2020 · 20/09/2020 23:47

What they might just do is give schools the freedom.to choose.if they want to go part time.

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 20/09/2020 23:47

They'll keep the schools open, keep the pubs open (maybe curfewed because Covid goes to bed at 10pm), keep businesses going and expect people to go to work. But we won't be able to mix households, see friends or be close to family. Textbook Cummings government.

It only takes a few not to adhere and that can seed high levels of transmission as Bolton has seen. Personally I think we've had it.
AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit · 20/09/2020 23:54

Yes, they'll avoid it for now. Then blame the public for not following guidelines and enforce it nearer to Christmas.

Keepdistance · 20/09/2020 23:57

Almost as many outbreaks in primary as secondary.
Plus younger kids drive flu and other viruses more.
The SWismore affected than we think.
N somerset and somerset have at least 5 schools affected already.

Looking at the map it doesnt show huge numbers of cases except up north but obviously tests were severely restricted.
But if it does spread easily in schools it will start to explode soon.
Possibly via siblings or via bubbles kept open due to lack of tests.

GarlicSoup · 20/09/2020 23:58

I think we’re heading for a national lockdown.

BexR · 21/09/2020 00:00

Possibly. They will set a threshold based on numbers and explain the trigger point for a lockdown. That might incentivise people to follow regulations or nudge neighbours to follow them. But I think we will probably hit the lockdown point eventually.

AlrightTreacle · 21/09/2020 01:07

Not read anything like that personally. Doubt panic buying will be as bad as last time anyway as sure people who panic bought last time have either run out of panic by now, or carried on prepping and are well and truly stocked up by now

Maybe there will be another lockdown, personally I don't think there will be because of the effect on the economy, but who knows what will happen.

Out of interest, what preparations is your DP proposing? Other than making sure you've got a week or twos worth of food and loo roll in, and enough chocolate/gin/wine/whatever your comfort food is, there's not much else you can do, is there?

That's a genuine question btw, I'm curious. Or does he mean more like mentally prepare?

Sadly I think this is very likely.
AlrightTreacle · 21/09/2020 01:14

Just to add, I went grocery shopping earlier and there was loads on the shelves, no queues, all very normal and calm. And I'm in an area that might be put into a local lockdown soon.

FucketyFucketyFuck · 21/09/2020 01:24

I'm in County Durham and the shelves were fine in Tesco today, I have family working in Sainsbury and Asda and those are also fine. Delivery slots ample for all the main ones.

There's been queues outside a couple but that's because they're limiting the numbers inside again. I was expecting it to be bad with the local restrictions we've just had out on us but in my area stock and slots all seem to be fine.

86jabberwocky · 21/09/2020 01:37

I really hope not but some mumsnetters here really want a second lockdown because Sarah from work didn't self isolate on her way back from holiday and John from next door has been meeting in a group of 7. Let's not forget we are being lied to since the beginning and the actual figures doesn't justify the first lockdown and anywhere near it. I will respond to this post 10 years later from now as this will be all talked about for decades to come in how it wasn't worth it and how so many families lost their jobs, homes etc. The figures doesn't justify destroying the economy and draconian measures put on the population.

gadansk · 21/09/2020 01:41

I think it's likely. It's being hinted at like mad in the press and from government which is what they dud last time to prep us for bad news. Hopefully not but I won't be surprised.
