And I must add, a lot of people this time round won't be following it as they have woken up, so therefore the supermarkets won't be empty.

ilovesooty · 21/09/2020 01:56

None of us know.

Why is what your husband said relevant?

Newjez · 21/09/2020 02:18

I'm struggling to get a delivery from IKEA, but the super market seems fine.

But sadly yes. The virus caught us in the tail end of winter. This time it will hit us all winter. It is going to be tough.

redlockscelt · 21/09/2020 03:12

Yes, everywhere except schools

malificent7 · 21/09/2020 03:42

It is shite but probably.
I am torn about this. They say infection rates are rising but then so is testing....is there a correlation?
Deaths also seem to have gone up but nowhere near the peak.
Winter does bing more deaths from flu etc anyway.
I think we are in for a harsh winter.

notangelinajolie · 21/09/2020 04:27

Yes I hope so. Possibly for 2 weeks full on lockdown over half term.

PhilCornwall1 · 21/09/2020 04:38

Looks like Whitty, Vallance and Johnson are doing a press conference today according what I've read in the news this morning. Professor Doom will be making a statement about how we are all in the shit.

I'm sure everyone knows what's coming, it's not rocket science. Will it make a difference? Probably not.

Witchend · 21/09/2020 06:47

Yes, possibly with much stronger enforcement if people aren't obeying.
Deaths are increasing (doubled between 2 weeks ago and last week, if that continues it would be 5k deaths per week before half term)
Shutting secondary and not primary doesn't make sense as cases are increasing in both, and latest research is that surprise they do pass it on.

cheesyfeet123 · 21/09/2020 07:07

I think we will be by mid October

Sheknowsaboutme · 21/09/2020 07:13

I don’t think so. This country can’t lockdown again. This virus will never go away and we will have to live with it. Locking down is something that cannot keep happening.

Eating out as we are is working. Distance is kept. But I’ve seen local pubs -drinkers not diners- not adhering to the rules. And its these places that need closing not the eateries.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 21/09/2020 07:24

I think they will ban us from socialising outside our household or support bubble and either shut pubs and restaurants or bring in to 10pm curfew. Maybe more encouragement to work from home if possible. Everything else with official ‘Covid secure’ rules will continue to operate. I suspect they will do this from Tuesday for the foreseeable future but maybe it will just be for 2 weeks from Tuesday or at the end of October.

All just guesses based on what’s been in the papers over the last week.

Redlocks28 · 21/09/2020 07:25

Yes, I can see them trying a two week lockdown soon-schools, pubs and shops closed.

If they just say-‘come home form the pub a bit earlier‘, that’s not going to do much and they know it.

Whatwouldscullydo · 21/09/2020 07:34

I think there will be something fir sure.

Everyone blames schools but with 14 day incubation period they haven't really been back long enough so it was clearly from before.

Plus I don't think I trust the numbers. No one can get a test yet they report thousands of cases testing positive a day. Which requires literally millions of tests especially if you count inconclusive ones retakes and ones sent out but not completed.

Which is it. There are no tests or millions being done daily to get the numbers? HmmConfused

Think that they just using it as an exuse to see that they can get away with tbh

Tadpolesandfroglets · 21/09/2020 07:40

It’s only September and the shit is hitting the fan. It’s not even Winter yet.

.... "No one can get a test yet they report thousands of cases testing positive a day. Which requires literally millions of tests" Confused

No it doesn't
Test positivity is about 1.5%
So the number of tests being done per day is already sufficient to show this.
Obviously doesn't take anywhere near a million tests per day

BigChocFrenzy · 21/09/2020 09:06

... which doesn't mean I support a 2nd lockdown atm
However, we have to have a strategy other than denial

areyoubeingserviced · 21/09/2020 09:25

Surely we can’t lockdown again. We cannot even survive even a month of another lockdown. On the other hand the figures are rising again. We are between a rock and a hard place

Washimal · 21/09/2020 09:37

It won't be 'lockdown' as such, even if they call it that, as they will try to keep schools and businesses open. But I think we will be banned from mixing with other households unless it's for the purpose of attending work and school. They will probably go back to actively promoting the 'work from home if you can' message and review shielding advice for the vulnerable too.

Whatwouldscullydo · 21/09/2020 09:49

So they are guessing the figures then these aren't actually positive tests?

unimaginativeusernamehere · 21/09/2020 09:54

Shorter, local lockdowns definitely and I'd say for at least the next 6 months Sad

Hobbesmanc · 21/09/2020 09:55

I work in healthcare and we are planning for phase two. We had just started to return office teams from home working but we are reviewing this as our office based staff can operate remotely. We have stocks of PPE etc till January. To be honest I'm in Gt Manchester and there has been limited adherence to the extra restrictions here so I'm not sure how effective they are now.

MrsToothyBitch · 21/09/2020 10:21

I think it will be local ones and I'm desperately trying to get cleared to wfh since my trains are filling up again and I'm not happy about it. Supermarkets are ok near me but we'll see- there's lots of older people where I live and I expect to see the supermarket slots go.

I took it all in my stride last time but I'm actually quite highly strung about it all this time round. I'd just like a solid decision to be made so we can sort out the family stuff and work can sort me out. Then I'll feel calmer no matter how crap it is. DP is also an accountant and their main clients are via hospitality & entertainment industries. We're still not really going out & about but he needs places to stay open for the knock-on effect on his own job security.

letmethinkaboutitfornow · 21/09/2020 10:25

I am certainly prepared now! Did a massive stock shopping for non-perishable items.

The uncertainty is crippling the economy and people’s mental health. 😔
