Why on earth do people put a up photo on here asking if they look good for their age?

I fully expect an article in the Daily Mail incoming with lots of women of a similar age pointing out they look better. Why would you do this to yourself ?

@Stripesgalore

Almost everyone thinks they look younger than they do.

I do work out people’s ages based on whether they look older or younger than me based on wrinkles, as I’m most familiar with my own face.

Oh, yeah. 'I got asked for ID' 'I look really young'. Blah blah blah!
DimityandDeNimes · 20/09/2020 21:52

This one was a corker!

FloraButterCookie · 20/09/2020 21:54

I definitely look younger than I am because the fat fills out the wrinkles 😳😭

Thisismytimetoshine · 20/09/2020 21:55

It's really odd. One of them posted a picture with Bambi filters on 😂
I think that was the one who was told she looked 60 when she eventually posted a normal photo (she absolutely did).

PoloNeckKnickers · 20/09/2020 21:55

I would never do it as I'm 53 but look older. A couple of years ago I went on a boat trip with DH and was asked if I wanted the 'Pensioner special' Confused.

Bluntness100 · 20/09/2020 22:03

Honestly I think it is vanity and a need for validation for most of them,

The person who posted their photo the other day when she went batshit she posted addressee randomly to me, “you put your pic up and let’s all have a look at you”

I was sitting there thinking,

No one asked you to put your photo up, that was all you.
It’s an anonymous forum, putting your pic up defeats that purpose
I genuinely don’t give a shit how old folks think I look and I regularly post my age.

It’s all just a bit unhealthy really.

Shaniac · 20/09/2020 22:06

What i dont understand is why something so harmless and banal is met with utter contempt and even anger on here. Fuck sake so what if someones fishing for a compliment. Just say something nice and move on with your life. Seems fucking weird to want to try and drag someone down angrily because they shared their own face. Its an anonymous forum but theres no rules that say you have to be anonymous.

😂

Even if you looked 70 and claimed you were 25, how was that supposed to make her feel better? Poor cow.

What would "something nice" consist of? An outright lie, to feed their ego?
Rudolphian · 20/09/2020 22:09

I just think they've posted a picture of someone they dont like and are laughing at the comments.

Shaniac · 20/09/2020 22:11

@Thisismytimetoshine. Why would a compliment be an outright lie? Everyone has something attractive about them. You can be honest and nice at the same time they are not mutually exclusive.

QueenArseClangers · 20/09/2020 22:17

What happened to the recent one with the lady with very long blond hair? She said her colleagues all thought she looked younger than her age?
People normally spot thinning eyebrows/lips and jawlines as well as makeup that ages posters.

I thought we were talking about the "How old do I look?" threads?

ShebaShimmyShake · 20/09/2020 22:29

I look younger than I am, but that doesn't mean I'm not a minger.

cabingirl · 20/09/2020 22:40

I had a period in my early 30s (30-36 ish) when people regularly thought I was in my early-20s.

Unfortunately every year since then my real age has caught up with me and now I definitely look every bit of my late 40s - possibly older 😂. (Children are very aging!)

However, based on my Mum and Grandma's genes it's likely I'll get my ten years younger thing back once I'm in my mid 70s - when it's absolutely no use to anyone!

WiserOlder · 20/09/2020 22:44

I agree, it's an odd thing to do. But also agree that the replies are often intentionally hurtful. Woman who clearly looks 40 will put up a photo asking what age do I look and the odd person will say ooooh not a day over 35 but a lot of posters will say, I don't know 60?

WiserOlder · 20/09/2020 22:46

I get that other people NEEDING to have their self-esteem boosted via their appearance is really tedious but at the same time, to deliberately be hurtful is a bit nasty

I am fifty. I aim to look happy, stylish, healthy and attractive for fifty
No illusions.

Sacados · 20/09/2020 23:00

It's such a weird thing to ask in any case, but what really gets me is that a single static photo isn't normally any guide to age. I can take photos of myself on the same day with different angles/expressions/lighting/makeup (not even any filters) and my age will appear to vary by a good 10 or 15 years. What's the point?!

Bendybarbarabee · 20/09/2020 23:22

I always worry that it’s not really them, ie that someone is posting a photo of a friend or colleague or something!

WiserOlder · 20/09/2020 23:52

Oh I never thought of that.

ethelredonagoodday · 20/09/2020 23:53

It's a big gamble innit?! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

Finfintytint · 21/09/2020 00:01

I am 53. I look about 52. If I posted a picture I assume people would guess I was 54. It’s all a bit silly.

middleager · 21/09/2020 00:05

As pps said, validation.

The recent one must have known she looked good. Said it was to settle a dispute with her male 'friend' who thought she looked the same as years ago etc. I found it odd. Very odd indeed.

Kanaloa · 21/09/2020 01:13

Yeah it’s a bit sad. I think it’s a shame that people are so obsessed with looking young. I get it and everything, especially with celebs who seem to look immortally young sometimes, but there’s nothing wrong with looking lovely at the age that you are.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 21/09/2020 01:39

It’s all a double-edged sword anyway, even if you do get the answers you want. I turned 40 last year and got a few very surprised responses at work. It felt nice, but not long afterwards, someone guessed my age at 40 and I felt really offended - even though he was right Grin My expectations had been set and now the truth hurt!

I’d be exactly the same if I posted a pic on here. Nine people could tell me I looked 35 - if the tenth said I looked 45, I’d be gutted and thinking ‘OMG I look 45! 😭😭😭’
