I hate motorway driving!

Country roads? Fine. A roads? No problem. Residential streets? That's me.

Motorways? Oh I hate them, I find them so scary! I'm capable... I wouldn't go on them if I wasn't. I keep on fighting the fear because I don't want to restrict myself... but I hate them, they scare me. The lorries. The wind you feel sometimes when the car sways. Having to speed up when overtaking. My palms always have a thin film of sweat when it's over and I'm always so relieved to see that turn off. I didn't give a flying shite in my 20s but the older I get the more anxious I feel.

Is it just me?! Lighthearted...

@Hingeandbracket
Good question! The main thing I would like to change is the drivers who appear behind you (usually aggressively close) when you’re overtaking on the outside lane. It doesn’t matter what speed you’re doing, it seems they just want to go faster than you. Is it some sort of game? No matter if you’re doing 90 mph plus they try their best to force you out of the way and yes they are usually male 😂
And why does pretty much everyone ignore the two chevrons spacing recommendations?

The best thing about motorways.... no cyclists!

This!

Also agree with others about people not moving over for you to come on the entry slip, SO frustrating and my biggest bugbear with driving.

I haven’t been driving for that long in the grand scheme of things, I learned late. I do think that motorway lessons are a good idea but I never had one. I think competent learners can go on them now is that right?

I do a fair amount of driving and find using the motorway (now there’s reduced traffic, it wasn’t always time friendly before lockdown) saves me SO much petrol as opposed to the equivalent A/B roads.

I quite like motorways but I agree they are a bit boring. And whilst I wouldn’t say I am constantly breaking the speed limit the average speed on my local motorway stretch is 80mph+ so you need to keep up with the flow. During lockdown the average speed was quite a bit higher, 90mph+.

I work for emergency services, I deal with carnage every day, but most of it is not on motorways.

I feel much safer on motorways than busy crowded streets. I admit I hate motorways in heavy rain and poor visibility when lorries are thundering past, but (as in today) it was beautifully easy.
