Or not due to risk of covid?

I am but only when I have to. For example, on stairs

I touch everything.
I’m not living my life in fear.
That’s no life

m0therofdragons · 19/09/2020 21:38

No but I stopped after I worked in a school and caught 3 sickness bugs in a year being my first sickness bugs ever as an adult.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 19/09/2020 21:38

Yes because I’m at greater risk of falling down stairs than getting Covid19 from a handrail🤣🤣 I’ve bad knees and I’m clumsy!

I do use hand sanitizer though.

Doilooklikeatourist · 19/09/2020 21:39

I do touch rails on stairs , I try not too , but I'm more scared of falling and making a tit of myself than catching Covid
I wash my hands when I get home

Goldendream · 19/09/2020 21:39

@Doyouthinktheysaurus

That's how I think too. There's greater risk of falling down the stairs than covid from the handrail.

I haven't touched public surfaces in years. It was norovirus that put me off not Covid. I'm not obsessive about cleanliness by a longshot but lift buttons, toilet door handles, handrails? No thanks.

MaggieFS · 19/09/2020 21:42

No, but I never did anyway. Have seen enough people walk out of public loos without washing their hands and the like never to want to touch a surface with my bare hands again. (Would always use a tissue if there was no way of avoiding contact)

How do you live a normal life without touching things other people have touched?

What about petrol pumps, door handles, shopping trolleys and baskets?

Queenoftheashes · 19/09/2020 21:44

@Northernsoullover how? I usually use my elbow if possible or cardigan but is there a better way? Eg getting out of a toilet?

SerenDippitty · 19/09/2020 21:44

I’d rather risk Covid than a broken neck.

Laaalaaaa · 19/09/2020 21:45

I’m not leaving the house unless I’m in a full hazmat suit. This virus ain’t stopping me do anything.

SingaporeSlinky · 19/09/2020 21:46

I tend to have my hand hover over the handrail, so I could easily grab it if I needed to. But generally try not to, and if I have, I don’t worry because I’m using hand gel on the way out of shops or buildings anyway.

Me too. My dad is getting annoyed with my relaxed attitude to it. I'm a nurse and worked all the way through. We can't socially distance at work. The numbers are still a drop in the ocean and I have more chance of being hit by a bus than getting Covid.

pineapplepalmtree · 19/09/2020 21:49

I have my hand out ready to grab handrail if i fall on stairs but, but dont touch it if i can avoid it. i watched a programme about whats on handrails and the tube rails etc and it put me off for life Envy

MsStillwell · 19/09/2020 21:52

but lift buttons, toilet door handles, handrails? No thanks

I’m trying to picture this. You get in the lift, and then what?

Inkpaperstars · 19/09/2020 21:53

I generally try to avoid that kind of thing even pre covid, or at least be aware to wash hands after. I do often hold banisters though even now...I have to prioritise immediate risk of falling. I just try to remember and clean hands asap before eat or touch face.

AgeLikeWine · 19/09/2020 21:54

Absolutely not. I don’t touch anything outside my own house or car unless I have no alternative, eg at the supermarket.

wowfudge · 19/09/2020 21:56

Well quite. I touch rails, doors and buttons and wash my hands or use hand sanitizer as soon as I can afterwards. I have to cross a very busy road several times a week and there's a pelican crossing. There's no way I'm putting myself at greater risk by not pressing the button and playing chicken instead.

I avoid touching things like handrails if I can. I am not living in fear. I am being careful.
Inkpaperstars · 19/09/2020 21:57

Lift buttons... I haven't used any recently. Usually before all this, if no one else was pressing it I would use sleeve or a knuckle. Much much less likely to transfer that to eyes/nose/mouth than a fingertip.

I have always been in the habit of handwashing as soon as arrive anywhere after using public transport or similar. Was just raised to regard that as basic hygeine, and if you use the tube much it's pretty clear why! If I had to do lift buttons now, I would either use a tissue/glove and dispose of it, or just remember to wash hands asap afterwards.

Grapefruitcauliflower · 19/09/2020 21:57

I try not to as much as possible, but I’ve always done this so haven’t really modified my behaviour because of covid!

zoemum2006 · 19/09/2020 21:57

Covid is an airborne virus. Although it does live on surfaces, it doesn’t seem to be infecting people that way.

I’m not particularly worried about touching things.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 19/09/2020 21:59

I make a point of not holding onto the handrail of escalators in supermarkets or using buttons on pedestrian crossings.
I sanitise after using the door handle In the building society and use the disinfectant provided to clean the trolley or basket handles.

unimaginativeusernamehere · 19/09/2020 22:01

I'm 7 months pregnant and have arthritis in my ankle, I'm definitely holding handrails on stairs etc. I'm just a bit more careful to wash my hands these days and take hand gel out with me.
