A new business has appeared on my Facebook page delivering afternoon tea and sandwich platters. It's called Picky Bits. Aibu to want to block them just because of the name?

You're not allowed to say 'Picky bits' on Mumsnet. It's the law.

ViciousJackdaw · 19/09/2020 13:49

Just looking at the thread title is turning my stomach. Makes me think of scabs, nose picking and saliva coated fingers all over food. Even the phrase 'I just picked at my food' is gross.

I'll tell you what else annoys me - sipping. 'Well, I was sipping my latte and...'

Theres a company in Gloucestershire called "The Rumbling Tum" that always makes me think of a bout of D and V.
I have also heard of a Restaurant called Chyme! FGS why would anyone name their venue that. Might as well just name it partly digested shit.

SantanaBinLorry · 19/09/2020 14:14

Thats a proper shit name for a business. I spotted one at a local christmas market called Muff-Cakes Grin To be fair she sold muffins and cakes, but c'mon! It's a stupid name. She was fairly young looking and i coulnt help but think someone should have advised her before she got her banner printed up!

If only! Grin

Isn't that what people call it when they do a meal that's just bits and pieces.

It's what some people call it - it is also revolting and sounds like you are going to be served a plate of bogies, toenails and dead skin.

Wait. You've been to one of my buffets? Grin

bluebeck · 19/09/2020 15:47

Almost as bad as "Salady Bits"

Geppili · 19/09/2020 15:54

YANBU! It is an awful name! Makes me shudder. (Clutches pearls).

anuffername · 19/09/2020 17:08

@iklboo Grin

TeddyDahlia · 19/09/2020 17:33

YANBU. What a horrible name!!!

netsybetsy · 19/09/2020 17:51

The name would put me off.

ToastyCrumpet · 19/09/2020 17:55

I doubt they’ll get much business with a name like that!

Quaagars · 19/09/2020 18:33

Just been for a nosy, that does look really nice food, hungry now and in need of a picky platter lol
Bet the owner is sat scratching her head somewhere wondering where the massive spike in page views has come from Grin

Crunchymum · 19/09/2020 18:47

£45 for a BBQ kit that had literally nothing in it? Feck that.

Malvarrosa · 19/09/2020 19:27

My American friend (who lives in England) finds the UK usage of
“bits” for any kind of food item inexplicably hilarious. Whenever he hears it he gets this maniacal gleam in his eye, licks his lips, enunciates - very slowly and clearly - “bbbbbbittttsss.” and then raises his eyebrows and gives a quick nod. I have to admit, it’s kind of funny.

OTOH, “picky” reminds me of nose picking, so not ideal for a business related to food.

In sum: I’m torn, but overall YANBU.

Armi · 19/09/2020 19:29

Just reading the phrase makes me feel sick.

LeaveMyDamnJam · 19/09/2020 19:31

Surely Muffin Top is a better name ?

Velvetlover65 · 19/09/2020 19:34

My friend always says shes gonna have a ‘picky tea’ and it drives me insane and i dont no why

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 19/09/2020 20:17

It is a bad name, but I've seen worse. On a board I used years ago (now defunct), there was a user who genuinely didn't understand the horror at her name for her craft supplies website. She called it Lady Cave!

MulticolourMophead · 19/09/2020 20:43

I have no problem with the name. If you are associating it with revolting stuff, I suggest you stop doing that.

BadDucks · 19/09/2020 20:49

It’s not the greatest name but could be worse. Still trying to fathom the reason why someone thought “Butt Savories” sandwich shop was a great idea on one of my local Facebook pages Hmm

Grin brilliant. That’s not really how brains work. Are you the owner?
WunWun · 19/09/2020 20:55

Definitely genital scabs.

You want to get out more.

Never heard this expression anywhere but on this forum but yes reminds me of nose picking
