To complete all my Christmas shopping now.

With talks of a second wave I keep thinking about Christmas.

Not worried about panic buying food or anything because we all managed last time.

But Christmas. My son has asd and has given me a specific list of what he wants - things that are probably quite popular - Lego etc.

Aibu to just get all the Christmas shopping done now?? We can afford it so it's not like we are spending extra money. We need to buy it soon anyway (like to be done shopping by November as I bloody hate shopping and find it stressful).

We know at the start of lockdown last time deliveries were sometimes taking weeks. Imagine the Christmas rush with online shopping etc.

I like to shop on the high street as much as possible but the very thought of Christmas stopping in store this year makes me anxious.

I know there's much more important things going in the world than presents but my children are young, they both have autism and love Christmas! They've had a terrible year (as we've all had) but we've had a few things going on personal to us too - lost a close family member amongst other things.

Oh thinks I'm mad but am I? I usually shop early anyway!!

Anyone else doing the same??

Makes no difference when you do it really, does it. But I’m finding it a bit strange that a child has presented you with a Xmas list in September.

autumncountryleaves · 18/09/2020 20:21

I’ve just finished my Christmas shopping for my two year old.

I’m going to buy it anyway, and I’d rather buy it now and not have to worry closer the to the time. I think for adults gifts I’ll wait, but I’m making sure I have any children gifts bought within the next month.

walker1891 · 18/09/2020 20:22

I am on with mine, just 3 more presents to get and then I'm done.

Splendidseptember · 18/09/2020 20:22

Op, go to Xmas board! They shop all year round for Xmas!

RozHuntleysStump · 18/09/2020 20:25

I start shopping from September too. What difference does it make?

Holothane · 18/09/2020 20:25

I’m finishing my in-laws presents in October, dh and me will order our stuff later, I only want the Liverpool away kit this year food shopping I’ll worry about later, dh says he’s not fussed, as he sees things I’ll order them.

jb2941 · 18/09/2020 20:27

Thanks all. He's not written a list as such. More like a verbal list 🤣 he has autism and has his heart set in specific items and has been talking about them for weeks!

YANBU. I am nearly finished. Doesnt hurt to plan ahead this year of all years. Crack on and join us on the Christmas board!

Love51 · 18/09/2020 20:28

How would it be unreasonable? It is your money, and it would be you feeling the stress if things didn't go to plan. It might not be what others would do, but it isn't the wildest of lifestyle deviations!

1Morewineplease · 18/09/2020 20:30

We're starting this weekend.

We can't afford to pay for everything in December, so we spread it over a longer time.

We'll start getting foodie treats as they appear ( already in my supermarket!) , particularly those wretched cheese footballs which my husband loves and still drags up the year I forgot until it was too late and none could be found!

TheLastStarfighter · 18/09/2020 20:31

Makes perfect sense to get it now. I would, but mine won’t know what they want until nearer the time, and most of it will undoubtedly be games to download anyway (young teens)

WoodenFox · 18/09/2020 20:32

I used to get Christmas lists of my older kids over the summer holidays! Gives me chance to spread the cost and make sure they get what I want. Anything electronic I would wait till December pay so the receipts and guarantees were ok.
emptyshelvesagain · 18/09/2020 20:33

I always start in September but this year I am making a bigger effort to get it done more quickly. The next few weeks could be anything Sad

Gilead · 18/09/2020 20:34

Nearly finished mine.

Bickles · 18/09/2020 20:35

Nearly finished mine. Buying extra Lego for lockdown.

aToadOnTheWhole · 18/09/2020 20:38

Yanbu. I'm a Christmas board-er and have been planning, buying, stashing for weeks Grin it's only three pay days till Christmas and you never know what will happen between now and then.

Oysterbabe · 18/09/2020 20:40

Another lockdown shouldn't effect shopping too much right? I only shop online and usually get my Christmas shopping done in a couple of hours sometime in late November.

IggyAce · 18/09/2020 20:41

Already started mine, got ds Lego for a bargain price. I decided early in lockdown that I wouldn’t be queuing in the cold & wet for presents so I aim to have it done by the end of October.

Brighterthansunflowers · 18/09/2020 20:43

Go for it! You’ll be much less stressed if you know you have it all sorted, even without a pandemic. Lots of people spread out their Christmas shopping throughout the year, it hurts no one

fairydustandpixies · 18/09/2020 20:45

I've finished and wrapped all of mine including three birthdays. And written all the cards 😂

Smelborp · 18/09/2020 20:45

We’ve been doing it.

I also found some bargain reduced veg which I prepped for freezing so I have some of Christmas dinner prepared too. I think September is a record for that for me Grin

TokyoSushi · 18/09/2020 20:45

I'll have my Christmas budget available next month so planning to start then, super early for me as I'm usually a 'only do Christmas shopping in December' person. I'll do the whole lot online this year.

InkInTheBottle · 18/09/2020 20:47

Yep, get it done now Op. Save a lot of potential stress.

Liverbird77 · 18/09/2020 21:07

We've completed our present shopping for the kids. If we happen to see any bits they may like them we will buy them as and when but I wanted the main stuff sorted in case of a second wave/lockdown etc.

Franklydear · 18/09/2020 21:07

@jb2941 I also have an autistic boy, do it, buy it all now, it’s not worth the risk, and then at least Christmas will be a happy time
