To complete all my Christmas shopping now.

With talks of a second wave I keep thinking about Christmas.

Not worried about panic buying food or anything because we all managed last time.

But Christmas. My son has asd and has given me a specific list of what he wants - things that are probably quite popular - Lego etc.

Aibu to just get all the Christmas shopping done now?? We can afford it so it's not like we are spending extra money. We need to buy it soon anyway (like to be done shopping by November as I bloody hate shopping and find it stressful).

We know at the start of lockdown last time deliveries were sometimes taking weeks. Imagine the Christmas rush with online shopping etc.

I like to shop on the high street as much as possible but the very thought of Christmas stopping in store this year makes me anxious.

I know there's much more important things going in the world than presents but my children are young, they both have autism and love Christmas! They've had a terrible year (as we've all had) but we've had a few things going on personal to us too - lost a close family member amongst other things.

Oh thinks I'm mad but am I? I usually shop early anyway!!

Anyone else doing the same??

It's not a bad idea to start early. I probably will start soon. The problem with it is that you sometimes forget things you have already bought and then end up buying more nearer the time. Depends how organised you are and how resistant to impulse buys!

toomuchpeppapig · 25/09/2020 14:44

Of course you should just buy the presents now if you can afford to. I've already bought all the presents for my 2 DC, just because I like to be organised.

Wherearefoxssocks · 25/09/2020 14:46

Go for it. I've got most of DS's stuff and the odd bit for adults. Partly because it's nice to have something positive to think about, but also because I wanted to spread the cost and not have to worry about second lockdown etc.

It's on BBC News today that they're recommending that people start early as there's a possibility that online delivery companies will be swamped if everyone leaves it until December.

If your son has asd I would definitely get what he wants now, as long as you're sue he won't change his mind

I finished mine yesterday, I thinks it’s a sensible thing to do under the current circumstances.

amusedtodeath1 · 25/09/2020 15:04

I figured the same OP. If you have the Money and space to store it then why not? Makes sense to get ahead if you can. I also recommend the Christmas Bargains thread on the Christmas section, I've saved a small fortune lol

BleepingSausages · 25/09/2020 15:05

I’m almost done.just stockings to finish off

BigBreastedMumma · 25/09/2020 15:08

I've done 50% of my shopping already. I started at the beginning of the month. Go for it! Smile

AdoraBell · 25/09/2020 15:14

I started mine in March 😀 that’s not standard for me but I bought a reduced silk scarf for myself and when it arrived it didn’t suit me but I thought “that’s perfect for DD1”. Then when I bought DH’s anniversary present in May I added some fancy toiletries to avoid paying for postage. Found another reduction for DD2’s present and that’s me done other than stocking fillers.

My living ds is only 3 and he wants emergency services vehicles, I already got his main present, there's just a few little ones to get. My star baby ds will have a personalised bauble for the tree so that he is still part of what should have been his first christmas. The only other person I am buying anything for is dp, we will be done except food by the end of October.

MJMG2015 · 25/09/2020 15:19

Unless they're likely to change their minds, why wouldn't you?

OH needs a stuff ignoring. It won't be him stressing at the last minute will it?

Just out of curiosity, WHY does he think you're mad?

I haven't done any yet, but I plan to start soon & have it done before Nov. I do NOT want the stress!

Mafsaaddict · 25/09/2020 15:20

God OP, you’re right. You’ve set me into a very slight panic actually. I must get going with my shopping very soon.

Toddles off to Christmas board to steal ideas for children’s presents

gamerchick · 25/09/2020 15:22

@Honeyroar

Makes no difference when you do it really, does it. But I’m finding it a bit strange that a child has presented you with a Xmas list in September.
Mine has ASD and I already have his list...on a A4 sheet of paper, both sides Hmm

Do it OP, I'm nearly done for everyone. Just don't want to have to think about Christmas when there's a no deal brexit to think about

Nyctophyllia · 25/09/2020 15:23

Mine is all done and wrapped, im not normally this organised but I like it

gamerchick · 25/09/2020 15:23

That Hmm was to his list. I'm still bemused at it

Pinksmyfavoritecolour · 25/09/2020 15:38

I’m not so bothered about the adults pressies, No idea on what to buy to be honest, but I started buying for the children I buy for this morning, aim to get All them done In next couple of weeks, Little children shouldn’t miss out, and if we go into lockdown locally Nearer time I can drop, wave and run, Teenagers getting cash not vouchers this year who knows what shops will survive this ...

goose1964 · 25/09/2020 17:00

I've a few bits and pieces, but we have two more birthdays before Christmas and two between then and New Year. To top it all were trying to remortgage. We have started stocking up on food though.
