To go to a&e if shes still limping in an hour?

DD, almost 2 year old, started limping quite badly about an hour ago. No fall, no bumps, no tears, just stood up and starting limping. She cant weightbare on that leg and it's so bad she keeps wobbling over with it. I've rung the Drs who said they would get a dr to call me back but as yet I've not had a call.
DD seems generally ok in her self if I bit miffed she cant run around and confused she keeps falling.
I'm not usually one to worry too much, more of a 'ah shell be fine in an hour' but something is making me feel a bit worried about this..

Definitely call 111, unexplained limping in a child needs checking out as others have explained.
My DD had this age 5 and the GP sent her straight to hospital for X-rays and blood tests.

OneDayIllStopNamechanging · 19/09/2020 14:02

Well she still has a noticable limp when trying to run, but her leg is supporting her and shes not falling because of it. She cant go down stairs though and shes asked to be picked up a bit more than usual. DP still seems unbothered by it though. Still not convinced its nothing but as I'm unlikely going to get a GP appointment till Monday and its deffinatley not a&e worthy right now I'm giant to call the Drs on Monday morning if shes still limping

I'd take her to A&E today

Toomanyapplesinthefruitbowl · 19/09/2020 14:10

Toddlers don’t limp without cause - any change in weight bearing needs to be investigated urgently - septic arthritis is common and treatable but not something you’d want to ignore

unimaginativeusernamehere · 19/09/2020 14:17

A lot of people on this thread have told you it is A&E worthy. It's actually quite frustrating to read. Your small child has been limping, had her leg collapse from under her and can't use stairs for at least 24 hours now and she hasn't seen a medical professional?

unimaginativeusernamehere · 19/09/2020 14:20

The gp even told you yesterday if there was no improvement in 24 hours to get her seen and you want to possibly leave her in pain, causing further damage until Monday?
If you take her to A&E or minor injuries and it's nothing serious then nothing has been lost.

MaMisled · 19/09/2020 14:25

I'm with AnyFucker......transient synovitis. Scary but, well, transient.. Hope you're reassured soon.

@OneDayIllStopNamechanging

I've just checked my call log an I rung the GP an hour ago so its actually been an hour an a half almost since first starting limping, it's not got any better or worse.

I've checked her over and no stones, thorns or splinters. At the time we were colouring so I did initially think a dead leg but it's been quite a while. She didnt hit her head or anything immediately before but this morning she was climing on the sofa when she just started screaming and was hysterical. I thought maybe she had bit herself but It could be related?

You need to have her seen. Today.
Nixen · 19/09/2020 14:29

Seriously? Please take her to A&E

BikeRunSki · 19/09/2020 14:48

Seriously just go the A&e. I’m speaking from experience of septic arthritis in a toddler.

OneDayIllStopNamechanging · 19/09/2020 15:21

The GP said to call back if no improvement, theres been a noticable improvement just still not right? As it happens I've called the Drs, I'm awaiting a call back from a GP. DP thinks I'm over reacting though even calling the Drs over it so I dont think hes going to be up for a trip to a&e and we dont have a minor injuries unit near by

Jeez, no one likes A&E, but you really should take her. Seriously, if my DC needed to go to hospital no one would tell me not to take her, not even her dad. Why do you have to go together? I'd take her myself.

formerbabe · 19/09/2020 15:34

And sorry to say it but the fact your dh thinks you're overreacting by even calling the doctors is quite suspicious to me...

londongirl12 · 19/09/2020 15:43

My friends child had this. Turned out it was septic arthritis and needed urgent treatment

@ParisianLady

My son did this...he had a cold, and then once recovered he lost the use of his legs. I got a panicked call from nursery to come collect her. Completely random. And it came back within a few days.

My GP said it wasn't uncommon.

This^ DS had the same, it's called irritable hip. We had to take him to A&E to rule out a break but he was fine after a few days.
unimaginativeusernamehere · 19/09/2020 16:00

You don't need your husbands permission to take your child

shesgonebatshitagain · 19/09/2020 16:00

Nobody is ever up for a trip to A & E !!!
If she needs to go go HE must

shesgonebatshitagain · 19/09/2020 16:01

@unimaginativeusernamehere

This If my children’s father tried to stop me taking one of them to A & E or seeking medical advice yes he the one needing it

If he won’t participate in this as her father at least make sure you do

shesgonebatshitagain · 19/09/2020 16:02

^ he’d be

Torvean32 · 19/09/2020 16:04

I hope the GP calls you soon and can work out whats going on.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 19/09/2020 17:19

Ignore your DP.
If I'd listened to my DH every time I wanted to take the kids to hospital I could have lost one of them - he had a gangrenous appendix that wasn't causing him much pain, but he was passing funny coloured stools and randomly saying he felt sick, then hungry.
He'd already been to the GP the day before, who couldn't find anything wrong - I wasn't happy the next day so took him to A&E. They did tests and an ultrasound and discovered his inflamed appendix, which was tucked behind his caecum and he had it removed next morning first thing. The report was that it was black with gangrene and about to burst.

Follow your own instincts here.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 19/09/2020 18:19

Why does it take two of you- taken them to a&e

Bourbonbiccy · 19/09/2020 18:30

Your DP doesn't need to be "up for an A&E visit", if 111 or your GP think this is the best action, that's what you do surely.

RedFaerieBoots · 19/09/2020 18:37

Another one saying A&E to get it checked. My wee brother had same and it was fluid on the hip. I remember as my mum had gotten him out of the buggy full time and on reins but he wasn't at nursery yet - so around 3. He hated being back in buggy with a passion. Recall temper tantrums and hospital trips (because the nurses gave me sweets as I was a fantastic big sister) to check hip.

Better getting it checked and it be nothing...
