I am shocked this is actually on Netflix. I haven't actually watched it and will not watch it after some of the scenes i've heard are in it,
But after all the controversy, I can't believe netflix haven't taken it down.

What is it I've never heard of it

Lockheart · 15/09/2020 19:42

There have been so many threads on this already, OP...

Francessssca · 15/09/2020 19:42

I don't know the actual storyline as I refuse to watch it but from what i've read online from reviews, people who have watched it, it over-sexualises 11 year old girls dancing

OP posts:
Francessssca · 15/09/2020 19:42

@Lockheart well i havent seen them and nobody forced you to click this. It was clear in the title what this was about.

How can you comment on something you haven’t even seen? Watch it first. Have your own opinion rather than hear say.

MrMeSeeks · 15/09/2020 19:46

Sigh.
Have you read what its actually about?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 15/09/2020 19:48

So you’ve come on here to start a thread on a film you haven’t actually seen?

Morgan12 · 15/09/2020 19:56

Totally missing the point of the film OP. That's why you shouldn't have opinions on things you haven't watched. Makes you look a right dick.

daisypond · 15/09/2020 20:00

It’s a very good, thought-provoking film. I saw it last night.

anotherhumanfemale · 15/09/2020 20:01

Apparently the point of the film is that girls are hypersexualised.

But then, I've not seen it, I've only seen the horrific dance clip. And that was completely unnecessary. It was something that would give paedophiles and hebophiles a hard on. Gratuitous and the (first time) film maker appears to have been successful in making the headlines.

I agree that girls are hypersexualised these days by society and the media, but because of how she chose to portray that scene, I definitely won't be watching it.

In my view, anybody who watches that scene and then goes on to watch the film is essentially asking to see more of the same. You don't watch a scene from a movie, hope to never see anything like it again and then watch the movie!

Francessssca · 15/09/2020 20:03

I have obviously seen clips and no I am not watching a film which makes girls dance in such a way.
It is not "art" for 11 year old girls to twerk and dance like that!

OP posts:
SavoyCabbage · 15/09/2020 20:05

I can't believe you have started a thread when you haven't watched the film, especially as there are loads of threads already.

I've watched it and have therefore contributed to a thread about it.

Francessssca · 15/09/2020 20:05

And there is better ways to demonstrate that girls are hypersexualised. The director did not need to hypersexualise the 11 year old girls for that movie to prove a point.

OP posts:
Francessssca · 15/09/2020 20:06

@SavoyCabbage i've mentioned that I've seen clips so will not be watching the actual film. I don't care if it's thought-provoking or artistic, you don't make 11 year old girls dance the way they do in that movie

OP posts:
GreenGordon · 15/09/2020 20:08

Sigh. Again?

daisypond · 15/09/2020 20:08

I hadn’t seen any clips before I saw the film. I don’t know what’s in the clips. The girls in the film are playing 11-year-olds. They aren’t 11 themselves.

Francessssca · 15/09/2020 20:10

@daisypond the girls ages are apparently between 12 and 14

OP posts:
ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 15/09/2020 20:11

One of them is 12 the others seem to be 14. Still not acceptable.
daisypond · 15/09/2020 20:13

Yes, I know. They’re not 11.

Francessssca · 15/09/2020 20:13

A comment I saw on another site stuck with me - during the auditions the casting directors may have seen hundreds of young girls dance like that

OP posts:
Francessssca · 15/09/2020 20:14

@daisypond yes they are not 11, but they are between 12 and 14.

How do you feel about the 'outraged' people who shared those clips on social media, thus alterting many thousands of people to their existence who might otherwise have been unaware of the film's existence?

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 15/09/2020 20:15

Every person who has started one of these threads hasn't seen the film and has judged on a minute or so of a clip and other peoples opinions (most of those haven't seen it either).

I watched it with my daughters and it led to some very interesting discussions.

Francessssca · 15/09/2020 20:16

@IcedPurple the movie shouldn't exist anyway - well not the dance scenes. I can't believe people are sticking up for 12 and 14 year old girls dancing like that and are instead outraged are people bringing attention the fact it's sick and can attract the wrong type of people Confused

OP posts:
SavoyCabbage · 15/09/2020 20:17

Well, I'd never heard of it until I saw a thread about it on here which prompted me to,watch it. So there is definitely something to be said for all,of the hoo-haa surrounding it now has exposed more people to its existence.
