Has anyone with javelin arse who has had an exploratory laparoscopy NOT had endometriosis?

Just wondering really. So much of what I read says that it's a strong indicator that endo is present (when you have other symptoms too) with varying degrees of bowel adhesions.

Period has just started, I'm in pain and worried. I wondered if anyone has had a laparoscopy done, and found to have no endometriosis despite awful pain?

Me. I had PCOS. The only symptom was javelin arse around ovulation. I reversed it with diet and the javelin arse went away.

nyoman · 14/09/2020 18:14

My DH gets javelin arse on occasion- pretty sure he doesn't have endo!
I get is sometimes too, and I'm fairly certain I don't either.

AbsentmindedWoman · 14/09/2020 19:00

@LongPauseNoReply glad you were able to reverse PCOS! Did you have that diagnosed via scans? I have cysts apparently but not PCOS, as have no problems with skin/ weight/ excess hair. But your only symptom was this pain though?

Really exasperated with the doctors I've seen to date tbh.

@nyoman Yes, in my op I did mention having other symptoms that then mean you have an investigative lap procedure. Not on its own. My period pain is really bad, it makes me throw up and pass out at times. The javelin arse is a fun extra.

My javelin arse (and other issues) did turn out to be endo. I had GNRH analogues and manage to get pregnant straight after. Touch wood it hasn't returned 3 kids later. I really feel for you, it's a horrible disease. I would vomit and faint on my period too. Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear Flowers

petermaysawthefuture · 14/09/2020 19:18

Me but I have Crohns Disease too, periods were horrendous until I got the mirena coil.

Tini17 · 14/09/2020 19:23

Mine was endo but before my first laparoscopy (diagnostic one), my surgeon said it could be Crohn’s if not endo.

With endo, severity of symptoms has little correlation to how much there is /number of cysts etc.

Fredelliottisayfredelliott · 14/09/2020 19:40

Gosh I've never heard the term javelin arse but the minute I read it I got it! I had this for years around the time of my period . It was absolutely horrendous and completely debilitating but only briefly, for example it would strike me out of nowhere and I would immediately have to stop and grip something till it passed. Funny enough it stopped after having babies. I went through IVF so had extensive fertility tests to find out what was stopping me conceiving, nothing was ever found.

howmanyroads · 14/09/2020 19:40

Are you on the pill OP?

sarahc336 · 14/09/2020 19:42

Oh my god it has a name!! I get this and pushing for endo investigations, currently going through the whole process of being fobbed off but all my symptoms are pretty much text book. So glad others have this symptom, it's awful symptom to have xx

LongPauseNoAnswer · 14/09/2020 20:26

@AbsentmindedWoman yeah I had really long sometimes wildly erratic periods so I went through a general assessment. Bloods were perfect but 2 bunches of grapes on the ultrasound!

Yerroblemom1923 · 14/09/2020 20:36

What is it? I am awaiting an op for ovarian cyst removal, and will take ovaries also. But what is "Javelin are"?! Is it the bit where my IBS flares up around my period?

TheSeedsOfADream · 14/09/2020 20:42

I'm guessing it's the excruciating pain in your bum and sometimes across your lower stomach around ovulation. Caused by a pouch whose name I forget emptying of blood or something. Pain when it happens is often a symptom of endo. Lasts for about half an hour (in my case) eased by pointing hot shower head at arse attractively.
I am past menopause now, but still get it every so often interestingly.
Sympathies to all who get it, it's rotten.

WinterAndRoughWeather · 14/09/2020 20:47

I used to get javelin arse, but not so much now. I get a bit of pain in my ovaries from time to time, especially at ovulation. I’m fairly sure I don’t have endo but I do have PCOS, though most of the symptoms have gone compared to 15-20 years ago. Not sure why.

ravensoaponarope · 14/09/2020 20:53

Me- no scan but no womb either post-hysterectomy. Seems common pain in rectocele which I have.

NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs · 14/09/2020 20:55

I thought everyone got it? No?
I have bouts of it, some months I get it got a few days, a few episodes a day, some months nothing.
Had it all my menstruating life.
Never had it investigated or thought there was anything to it.
It only lasts a few, very painful, minutes.

Elsiebear90 · 14/09/2020 20:57

What is it? I have endo, was confirmed by a laparoscopy and I’ve never heard of this term.

Fredelliottisayfredelliott · 14/09/2020 20:58

I thought everyone got it too until I discussed it with some friends who looked at me In horror Grin

GobletOfIre · 14/09/2020 20:58

I used to get it when younger, but don’t know. I think it stopped after having kids.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 14/09/2020 21:01

I've never heard the term 'javelin arse' before, but having experienced this I knew instantly what it was. That severe shooting pain that goes right up your backside was so strong that when it happened to me there was nothing I could do but freeze completely until it had gone away. When one of them hit me I just couldn't move!

Strangely I'd forgotten all about it until I saw the thread title, and now don't remember having it since DC was born 6 years ago. But it used to be really acute. Now puzzled as to why it's gone away, although hell knows I don't want it back. And yes, I do have endometriosis.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 14/09/2020 21:04

I would immediately have to stop and grip something till it passed. Funny enough it stopped after having babies..

Just read up the former posts on this thread - YES! This was mine to an exact description. Right down to having to cling onto something!

Jenasaurus · 14/09/2020 21:04

I remember my dad describing this to me, he was in so much pain and said I just have to sit down hard to deal with it when I noticed his face crumpled up with the pain and asked what was wrong. I now get it occassionally myself but although I havent had endometriosis my daughter does have that condition but as far as I know, she hasnt had javelin arse yet.

Lovestonap · 14/09/2020 21:05

Yes, I didn't know there was a name for it either. Only lasts momentarily and I have to freeze and grip something til it passes. I always assumed it was to do with my bowels (no endo/gynae problems here).

Bluepolkadots42 · 14/09/2020 21:13

I get this- the day before/day of Ovulation. I occasionally get it at other times- usually linked to trapped wind. I have always put it down to trapped wind of some kind. I read your hormones around Ovulation can make you extra bloated and gassy- it's something to do with the egg release. Can't remember now. It is a pain like no other though!

Kinkybutkind · 14/09/2020 21:17

Is that the pouch of Douglas?

I experience this and do have endometriosis (lap diagnosis) I also have pelvic organ prolapse; basically everything which can attempt to fall out of my vagina IS attempting to!

SewingWarriorQueen76 · 14/09/2020 21:20

It's a hypertonic pelvic floor thing. Worth looking up as some exercises can relieve it. I find that a really deep squat, heels right down, tail bone as low as you can and let the muscles release for about 2-3 minutes.

No endo or anything else, both before and after baby.
