Coldcough · 14/09/2020 11:54

It's September, I have no Xmas plans!!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 14/09/2020 11:55

Well we usually only have dinner with my parents and brother anyway. My parents split up last year so will just be with my mum and my brother has a job bow where he usually works on Christmas, so may just be us and mum and will visit dad of we are still talking.
We usually go over and see dps family, there are lots of them, so I suppose if the 6 person rule is still in, we won't be able to. Very unfortunate Wink

Deereamer · 14/09/2020 11:56

It’s too early to start thinking about Christmas. Anything could happen between now and then so I wouldn’t make any plans based on the 6 people rule at the moment.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 14/09/2020 11:56

We haven't spoke to anyone else about it yet though.

TheDuchessofMalfy · 14/09/2020 11:57

I think we’ll have to wait and see what the rules are and the state of Coronavirus spread is by then.

I’m a planner, so I get it, but I don’t think we can know this year.

JimMaxwellantheshippingforcast · 14/09/2020 11:57

There's only ever 5 of us on Christmas Day anyway so that won't change.

Boxing Day is our family gathering and we've postponed it to June next year when we will have a family BBQ and drink from Christmas glasses, use Christmas plates, exchange presents etc, etc.

Everyone is happy with that

user1493413286 · 14/09/2020 11:58

I’ve got an idea in my head about how it’d work to keep to 6 but not making any firm plans. Gutted about the idea of changing New Years though as we (a family of 5) normally spend it with another family of 5

MrsTravers · 14/09/2020 11:59

We're planning to be home. We're a household of six so couldn't have anyone over, but I wouldn't feel comfortable seeing my (over 80) parents so close to the end of term time. So I think we'll stay close to home the first 10 days of the hols, including Christmas, and then try to see family towards the end (and if we have to split up to do so, so be it).

I thought this winter was always likely to be an odd one as the first post-lockdown, so didn't really have any ambitious plans as a result.

WhatHaveIFound · 14/09/2020 11:59

It's September, I haven't made Christmas plans yet. I can just about plan what i'm doing for the rest of the month!

We'll probably end up with double Christmas and visit my parents one day, followed by DH's family the following day. We do have to get rid of one of his siblings though Grin

movingonup20 · 14/09/2020 12:01

Not sure yet what we are doing, I suspect we will do whatever we want, if there's 7 or 8 so what (usually there's 8)

MrsTravers · 14/09/2020 12:02

@JimMaxwellantheshippingforcast I love the idea of the Christmas themed summer BBQ! Lovely to have something tangible to look forward to, too!

Megan2018 · 14/09/2020 12:04

We haven’t made any yet but whatever we do will be within the rules.
We would usually be 6-7 adults and DD (who will be 15 months). I don’t imagine we will be able to meet altogether this year.
I’d be content to just see my parents snd inlaws on separate days as 2 groups of 5 if allowed, but equally happy to see no-one and just stay home.

We won’t decide anything until December.

AuntieMarys · 14/09/2020 12:04

Only the 2 of us plus adult dd will come for a week. We go to our local restaurant on Xmas Day...hopefully will be open.

elenacampana · 14/09/2020 12:06

If the govt make under 12s exempt then our Christmas plans won’t change. If under 12s stay within the 6 person rule, we won’t be able to see my family this Christmas.

Oysterbabe · 14/09/2020 12:07

There was only ever going to be 6 of us.

Bluesheep8 · 14/09/2020 12:09

Not sure yet what we are doing, I suspect we will do whatever we want, if there's 7 or 8 so what (usually there's 8)

Even if the rule/law is still 6?

TheSoapyFrog · 14/09/2020 12:10

I really don't know. On christmas day it's just the 4 of us but on boxing day we go to my mum and stepdad's house. My brother lives with them, so it would make it 7. I'm really reluctant to change it because there is one more person than the guidelines say there should be.

mindutopia · 14/09/2020 12:10

Nope, I can't imagine any sort of Christmas that would involve more than 6 people at this point. We are NC with both of our families (well, I am NC with mine, dh vaguely has contact with MIL but we are NC with her partner and she isn't allowed to do anything without him anyway. Hmm ). We might have BIL over (but that's still just 5 of us, including all dc). But BIL probably would rather spend Christmas with friends than with a house full of children and waking up at 6am.

WunWun · 14/09/2020 12:11

No, but it's not my year with DD anyway so I will just go to see my parents.

Sanitisethat · 14/09/2020 12:11

Depends on too much to know what to do yet! Lots could change by December.

Sh05 · 14/09/2020 12:13

Given that this government changes the rules constantly I don't understand the big worry and outcry about Christmas!
There's 3 whole months until then not two hours and things could change atleast 12 times before then if not more

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 14/09/2020 12:13

Same ^^ we’d be 7 or 8 at a push so we’ll just carry on as normal 🤷‍♀️

PlateTectonics · 14/09/2020 12:16

We would normally be a group of 15 (from 5 households) for Christmas Day. Not sure what we'll do if the rule of 6 is still in place. I guess we'd invite my parents only Sad

TillyTheTiger · 14/09/2020 12:16

There should be 9 of us from 4 different households for Christmas. If the rule of 6 is still in place I think we'll offer to stay at home (we're a family of 4) so that the rest can have Christmas together.
