AIBU to want nice cushions that aren't £30 each?!

Maybe I am. Possibly I'm looking in the wrong places.

I've looked at Next, ASDA, John Lewis, M&S, Tesco. Where am I missing?

I want comfy sofa cushions that are malleable and look nice, washable would be best.

I don't need colours or fabric that are on trend but will consider them if there isn't an alternative.

I do get back pain so supportive is nice but usually I bring a pillow down if necessary.

Also velvet makes me feel a bit weird so can't touch it ShockGrin

Anyone come across anything similar? Or am I just really old and have to accept that my choice is yellow with an odd shape and bobbly bits?!

I make my own cushions and lampshades, it's really not difficult. Lampshades are no-sew from a kit and cushions are just straight line sewing. I buy luxurious feather inners which are still quite cheap. I would never pay £30 for a cushion and lampshades are shocking prices mostly due to transport costs. A kit packs flat. I must have saved thousands across the different houses we've rented and owned. And you always get exactly what you want, too.

A cushion cover is a great starter project. Is there a friend or family member who'd lend you their sewing machine?

Ikea do some good ones at good prices

PollyPelargonium52 · 13/09/2020 20:31

Tescos have a good range.

phoolani · 13/09/2020 20:32

Made.com have lovely velvet ones for £35 for 2.

If you have an old single duvet (150 x 200 cm) it makes a great 50 x50 cushion pad.

Lay it flat.
Fold the top 50 cm backwards.
Then into thirds lengthwise from left and right. You now have a 50 x 150 rectangle.
Fold it into a 50x50cm square from the bottom up and bring the back part over like an envelope to keep it all together.
Now you can stuff your individually bought or made cushion cover!

It’s how I store my duvets .

I got mine from Argos four pounds each but they are way too hard. Primark is good.

Where on earth have you been looking that has £30 cushions?! I haven't seen one more than about £20 anywhere. The nicest I've seen, with a lot of choice, are at Homesense. £14 for most of them.

ToManderleyAgain · 13/09/2020 20:56

T K Maxx is brilliant for this type of thing, usually lots of choice

Viviennemary · 13/09/2020 20:57

I was amazed to see that B & M do some quite nice cushions for around £5.

Houseplanted · 13/09/2020 21:00

TK Maxx often have some really lovely ones.

Tk Maxx. I bought the most beautiful velvet teal cushions from there, feather inserts for £15 each.

We bought large, really comfy cushions from B&Q. I’ve also bought some really nice, comfy cushions from Ikea.

I would say Ikea too. Mine are feather and were £5 each with plain linen type covers at £3.50 each.

I'm really struggling to visualise this folding duvet business and too cosy on my sofa to go and try it out!
Surroundedbycats · 13/09/2020 22:03

Ikea feather filled are great and really good value mine were about 5£ each. Covers are seperate. They have survived toddlers!
