Why isn't it headline news that no tests are available?

Surely this is incredibly important - Govt said over and over we couldn't return to school/work without Test and Trace - and it's already broken down.

No tests whatsoever available now in my area, scores of others on MN reporting the same. Checked the Guardian live, BBC - nothing. Why isn't this being reported? It doesn't seem to be restricted tests, having no travel etc anymore: it's no tests.

Because as usual, the Govt largely control the media, and it's not something they want to broadcast. Fucking mess. A massive, ongoing colossal fuckturd.

Mybelle · 13/09/2020 16:13

According to the gov.uk website there was no test sites available and no postal tests available (at the time I was checking) in my area. However when I turned up at the local test site. It wasn't busy, I went straight in, plenty of spaces and tests. Something in the system is flawed because what the website claims and the reality are very different

Curiosity101 · 13/09/2020 16:13

Is it that there's no tests available or that you're unable to book testing slots? Either way it's pretty bad and even if it's intermittent software failure rather than tests not being available I'm surprised there's no coverage if the reports on MN are representative of the UK as a whole.

Exactly this!
ChicCroissant · 13/09/2020 16:15

The problem is processing the tests in the lab, it's been reported on a lot this week. Not being blocked in the media by anyone!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 13/09/2020 16:16

I really dont know but it should be, some horror stories about tests this week, suddenly no home tests and centres closing.

kimlo · 13/09/2020 16:16

it is being reported.

Both! Been checking all day, several times an hour.

I know it's ridiculous. Been trying to book a test since Thursday over and over no test sites available. Now I've got to have dds age 5 & 4 off school even though I'm pretty sure their cough is just part of the stinking cold they've got. The 14 days will be up before they get a test so do I just send them in then? What if they're still coughing??

Froginaboginasmock · 13/09/2020 16:18

@kimlo

it is being reported.
Where? Do you have a link?

Yes, I've read about people needing to travel for tests, or waiting for results. I've been offered nothing - nothing to drive to, walk to, no postal tests. I'm not alone judging by multiple posts on MN.

My best guess is the Govt are censoring what we do and don't hear about, through the main news sources.

Feminist10101 · 13/09/2020 16:19

I think they re-opened schools etc under public pressure and this is their way of limiting numbers (because people should isolate with symptoms) in schools and workplaces without having to be seen to make a decision.

Or it’s just another Tory govt fuck up. Wink

Boredbumhead · 13/09/2020 16:20

I don't know but it's all fucking odd.

PeskyRooks · 13/09/2020 16:20

Also it said some walk through sites are for over 18s only. So that's helpful.

MarshaBradyo · 13/09/2020 16:23

It’s in the news?

BBC yesterday

MarshaBradyo · 13/09/2020 16:25

Sky

SaltySosha · 13/09/2020 16:27

I agree. It's hardly being mentioned. That along with the fact that a large amount of a schools have had to close bubbles due to positive cases. It really should be being reported on properly.
I have completed a BBC complaints form about it and recommend others do too.

TheMarzipanDildo · 13/09/2020 16:30

I thought this. Some new sites are talking about it but it’s not the massive story that I assumed it would be

GetUpAgain · 13/09/2020 16:31

That BBC story says 'dozens' of people can't get a test. I think that is massively underrepresenting the reality!

Froginaboginasmock · 13/09/2020 16:31

Thanks @MarshaBradyo. One of those is from 5 days ago but I take your point - it's not headline news though, and it's not continually in the news? It's not on top headline part of BBC or Guardian, although it is on Sky now.

""This really is ministerial incompetence at a whole new level."

I saw the BBC story yesterday too - I’m in the US.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 13/09/2020 16:37

I expected it to be a bigger deal too in the media, likewise the number of schools with cases.

MarshaBradyo · 13/09/2020 16:37

Op I only listen to the news rather than read it. So I did just google those articles.

I was intrigued by the black out statement below so wanted to see if there was anything at all.

I suppose a lot of news happens because an all media press release is issued. And there may not be one for this although some outlets are picking up on it.
