Why isn't it headline news that no tests are available?

Surely this is incredibly important - Govt said over and over we couldn't return to school/work without Test and Trace - and it's already broken down.

No tests whatsoever available now in my area, scores of others on MN reporting the same. Checked the Guardian live, BBC - nothing. Why isn't this being reported? It doesn't seem to be restricted tests, having no travel etc anymore: it's no tests.

Because people would moan and panic. Gov aren't going to announce stuff like this, and lets face it, it's not reported if they say so.

What does it matter anyway, you either have it or you don't.

Ontheroadtorecovery · 14/09/2020 14:21

It took me around 40 hours to get a test which was done yesterday you just gotta keep trying I think. It is poor though particularly now infection is rising again

User27, I was wondering if it's for dd as she's under 16. Five hours of refreshing 3 different platforms was ridiculous. The person I spoke to on the phone was lovely and tried to help but was utterly clueless. I can't believe that they had no way of confirming whether or not we had booked a test or not.

@Ohyeahs

People need to stop getting tested when they have no symptoms. This isn’t the governments fault
I really don't think anyone is going to stick a swab up there nose and throat just for the fun of it!! Covid symptoms are so similar to cold symptoms - my son has a runny nose, sore throat and a bit of a temperature. I'm sure it's a cold, but you never know, and I don't want to take the risk of him giving Covid to someone vulnerable. Thousands of people will be in the same boat. The government could easily have predicted this and made sure their 'world beating test and trace' system was able to cope.
Ponchy · 14/09/2020 19:18

They could see this coming from 6 months ago. You do not need specialist training to process the tests. They could have had thousands of lab techs trained by now. 6 months is long time to train someone how to process a test. It's not rocket science.

Given that I've read about it on every news website I visit where isn't it headline news?

DDiva · 14/09/2020 20:14

If you are not getting any availability by applying for someone else and declaring you dont have symptoms you could try changing to saying you do have symptoms and booking for you aswell. The first time I tried this I successfully got a slot straight away. I saw this on another post on the covid board.

This worked for let getting a test for my son too. I didn't put in any of my details at all, but filled it all out as though I was my 3 year old. Got a home kit straight away that time. Could just have been good timing but interesting others have found the same.

It needs to be quite a bit of a temperature (37.8) to even come close to the criteria for testing. You’re very much part of the problem.

MomToTwoBabas · 14/09/2020 20:26

I've heard people are having issues but I went on and got one very simply last week. No issues atall. Why do some areas have none?!

Is the coronavirus testing system working? | ITV News

Published on Sep 14, 2020

Many are looking to get tested for coronavirus but are being advised to travel hundreds of miles to get one or unable to access one at all.

Porcupineinwaiting · 14/09/2020 22:53

@Feminist10101 37.8 is a very low grade fever

Feminist10101 · 14/09/2020 23:36

It’s still the measure in place for testing.

mrshoho · 15/09/2020 08:13

Priti Patel on bbc breakfast trying to say that testing going very well Angry She got a grilling though with presenter saying her version is very different to that of viewers writing in.

LouiseNW · 15/09/2020 08:18

No you’re not, in respect of the (certainly right wing, funny that) press.

Did hear it covered on BBC TV news and PM on Radio 4 yesterday though. Latter highlighted that no tests available yesterday in country’s (England) 10 infection hotspots and that two of their reporters tried to book anywhere up and down the country as a journalistic exercise yesterday and found none available, anywhere.

Finally yes it is in the popular press as well and on BBC news page and BBC breakfast. Can only hope for some improvement. I won’t hold my breath Sad. Hopefully it will stay in the news until capacity increases.

littledrummergirl · 15/09/2020 22:33

Well, we received a box this afternoon with 3 black bags in it. I opened one to find a test kit. Yay. Dd and I followed the instructions and dh posted it while I was at work. I can only assume the other two bags are more testing kits.

I will keep them bagged in case there are problems with the first test. Just have to wait for the results now.
