Obvs not BU Grin

I’m not really a film/tv fan, truth be told. I have quite specific things that I like, and they tend to be easy watching fluff if I’m honest. I don’t really like to watch stuff I have to engage with too closely. I have a heavy job and two kids and I’m always knackered and stressed. I just prefer to zone out with some mindless shit to be honest.

Greys is my default. It’s comforting and distracts me from stress etc. I dunno. I watch it most nights just now (going through a bit of a hard time) and it’s driving DH mental 🤷🏻‍♀️

I also like This Is Us and watch that sometimes but not to the same extent.

Is this really unusual? Does anyone else do this?

Greys, WW, ER, BBC period dramas, LHOP, When Calls the Heart, love the formulaic hallmark romance films too.

HamRadio · 12/09/2020 19:57

I love how occasionally they do an episode that is pretty separate from the storyline running at the time. Like I just watched Callie Torres’ malpractice case, with the snowboarder who lost his legs. Omg it’s a brilliant episode.

This thread is perfect timing. Im just coming to the end of Chicago Med (I'd highly recommend it) & Amazon Prime is suggesting Greys Anatomy. I was wondering if I should give it a go - looks like I will be 😊

ShakerCan · 12/09/2020 19:59

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Greys. Watched from day 1.
But Downton is my rewatch comfort series. Along with Harry Potter movies as a side order Grin

Redpriestandmozart · 12/09/2020 19:59

I've binge-watched House MD four times, that's over 700 episodes, I have no shame!

QueenPaws · 12/09/2020 20:01

Buffy is mine. I also love bones, unforgettable, Chicago fire and 911 Smile and greys goes without saying!

HamRadio · 12/09/2020 20:01

Amazing the Harry Potter films are about the only films I watch Grin apart from Love Actually and Titanic.

Downton obviously too, DH always watches that with me in order to pick out appalling bits of acting or holes in the plot you can drive a bus through but also because he enjoys it too!

Jayneisagirlsname · 12/09/2020 20:05

I'm on series 3 of Grey's and about to give up. The characters are just so awful! If I could watch a show about Callie, Bailey, Addison and Alex, I'd much prefer it 😊

Onlyonewayout · 12/09/2020 20:05

I’ve watched from season 1 to season 14 three times now. As I was late to the party. Now I add in the other seasons. I much prefer the earlier ones. I’m that into Greys, it’s the ring tone on my phone.

Cocklepops · 12/09/2020 20:26

I’ve been watching the two Mamma Mia movies on an absolute loop for the last couple of particularly difficult months. And playing the soundtracks on Alexa. And singing along.

My poor neighbours.

SocraticJunkieWannabe · 12/09/2020 20:37

I don't do this with Grey's Anatomy specifically, but definitely get the "comfort watch" thing - probably seen all Friends seasons 20/25 times and a couple of films I watch again every few months!

bluebluezoo · 12/09/2020 20:39

I've binge-watched House MD four times, that's over 700 episodes, I have no shame!

I loved House, but rewatching you just notice the medicine is utterly inaccurate. Hugh Laurie makes it, but I couldn’t watch it again.

Code Black is a good one as well.

CherryBlossomPink · 12/09/2020 20:40

Greys, West Wing, Downton and Lucifer are my go to box sets - love them and can watch over and over

Fromage · 12/09/2020 20:50

@majesticallyawkward do you have a think for tv shows titled with the number 9? Grin

I'm bingeing Grey's at the moment. On season 12, seen up to season 15. Love it. Also love ER, binged that before, and House (I have a thing for medical dramas, clearly)

Doje · 12/09/2020 20:54

I'm watching season 9 and season 16 at the same time. 😁

I re-watch the old stuff when I might be interrupted by DH or the kids, and save season 16, which I've not seen yet, for those special times when I know I won't be disturbed!

notforonesecond · 12/09/2020 21:01

Oh I’m glad to see this post. You’ve convinced me to give Grey’s a go.

My go tos are always House, Law and Order: SVU and Criminal Minds. Although the latter gives me nightmares if I watch too many in one go.

yelyah22 · 12/09/2020 21:05

Currently three quarters of the way (ish - season 14) through my second Grey's rewatch. Get tearful every episode, am deeply DEEPLY in love with Owen Hunt, and want Webber to adopt me.

My comfort rewatch is actually The Thick of It - I've probably seen it all ten times?

BetsyBigNose · 12/09/2020 21:09

Greys really is one of those shows you can either re-watch right from the start, over and over or just dip in to watch random episodes here and there (as long as you have watched it from start to finish at least once!). YANBU at all.

However, I've watched the whole thing through twice and began again at the start of the year (in my defence: I've spent about 30% of the last 6 years in hospital) but this time, I started to become aware of how toxic MerDer were together. He's horribly controlling, he's a cheater and he plays Meredith and Addison off against one another.

So now, I either FF through McDreamy's scenes, or pick and choose some of the more 'stand alone' type episodes to watch, rather than trying (and failing) to use Grey's as relaxing escapism because I'm too busy being angry at Derek for how he treats the women in his life. I am definitely BVU, I'm clearly far too invested! Blush

Figgygal · 12/09/2020 21:10

I did love it I think until there were a couple of BIG departures and then It lost me
Have 35 episodes on my sky box which I can’t bring myself to watch Sad

Lotsalotsagiggles · 12/09/2020 21:11

We started since lockdown and now on series 13!

HamRadio · 12/09/2020 21:15

I fully agree. McDreamy was awful Shock

Love love love greys.

I love scandal and how to get away with murder. They are both by shonda rhimes who does greys. If you've not seen them they are defo worth a watch

Jouleigh · 12/09/2020 21:17

I do the same! When DW is out I tend to rewatch comforting tv.

Mine are Gilmore Girls, Greys Anatomy, House, Buffy and sometimes ER but have found it dated, so just tend to watch my fave episodes.

I know that when I'm out she watches LOTR and the inbetweeners.

It works for us!

rosegoldivy · 12/09/2020 21:18

Oh and station 19 which ties into greys!
