Do you think UK government has got things under control

With Covid cases rising, infections multiplying in schools , do you think the UK government has got things under control. Track and trace could not handle 1000 cases , has 3000 each per day. Testing has gone AWOL as soon as schools started. Have they stocked PPE.
AIBU - don't worry. It will be alright
AINBU - Don't see any future planning

Hahahahahahahahaha.

No.

Arnoldthecat · 12/09/2020 14:11

Hard to say. I firmly believe there is ongoing planning in place but at the moment their is no unified single point of communication that has been given to the public so we are hearing piecemeal slices of spun crap from the MSE which is generating mass confusion and wilful civil disobedience. Boris needs to bring back Government announcements a few times a week as at the moment it looks like a rudderless ship.

Longestride25 · 12/09/2020 14:12

Nope not a chance, Boris standing there going about Daily 20 minutes testing for the whole population was enough for me to be like we are screwed 😂

Howslifenow · 12/09/2020 14:14

Thing is one sign of stress and the entire system stops working. Cases have only just started rising. Reports toda of hospitalization increasing as well.

I don’t think it’s under control, but then I think given the circumstances and the changes that keep occurring, they can’t get everything right and please everyone.

BlackSwan · 12/09/2020 14:15

Oh that’s so cute, no honey. Not under control. Not this or anything else... like brexit for example

SqidgeBum · 12/09/2020 14:16

Eh ..... simple answer really; NO.

ThePlantsitter · 12/09/2020 14:17

@lifesnotaspectatorsport

Hahahahahahahahaha.

No.

Yup.
CremeEggThief · 12/09/2020 14:18

What? Do some people actually think they do know what they're doing, or have they voted YABU by mistake?

RemyHadley · 12/09/2020 14:18

No. It’s embarrassing. We’re seriously considering emigrating to somewhere better run.

SleepaholicsAnonymous · 12/09/2020 14:19

You're kidding, right?? 🤣

SleepaholicsAnonymous · 12/09/2020 14:21

No. But to manage to create the most severe economic crash of any developed country AND to achieve one of the highest death rates per capita in the entire world is rather impressive for such a small country.
ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 12/09/2020 14:25

No

Terribly managed from the start

Howslifenow · 12/09/2020 14:28

Thing is I don't want world beating testing system. I just need tests to be available when needed. Haven't heard problems in Germany or South Korea. App just coming out. Doctors to have enough PPE.

MiniMaxi · 12/09/2020 14:28

I think they are attempting to plan but there is absolutely no way it’s not going to be another shitshow. Hopefully not as bad as last time but I won’t hold my breath.

I do have every faith in scientists to find treatments and develop vaccines, though.

Howslifenow · 12/09/2020 14:29

That's the only hope. We have got some brilliant scientists and companies. Not Serco though !!

OP posts:
SqidgeBum · 12/09/2020 14:37

I have to say I know we have fantastic scientists and doctors, but I feel we are asking them to do the impossible. A vaccine for a virus is next tonne impossible. Flu is the best we have managed and that only prevents some strains. Viruses dont do well with vaccines, so I am certainly not holding any government responsible if a vaccine isnt found.

However, other countries have managed better track and trace, they have had apps for months, they have long term furlough schemes (although the UK one was a godsend) and they have had much clearer guidance and roadmaps for recovery. I am from ireland and I cannot believe how well it was managed there, even though ireland is meant to be a mess of a government compared to the UK.

MiniMaxi · 12/09/2020 14:40

There are loads of vaccines against viruses! Polio, rotavirus, etc. Have faith... vaccine research doesn’t usually get anywhere near this much attention.

I also think the 20 min saliva tests WOULD be a game changer but on a personal level they need to be available to individuals to do at home before they want to see vulnerable relatives or take a trip or whatever. It really should not be able getting people back to the football.

MiniMaxi · 12/09/2020 14:41

*about

Pimmsypimms · 12/09/2020 14:49

Nope. It's scary how disorganised they are. There will be so many people unnecessarily out of work and children unnecessarily out of school for long periods of time due to lack of testing.

Howslifenow · 12/09/2020 14:54

At least the school reopening is going well.

OP posts:
RepeatSwan · 12/09/2020 14:55

100% no.

They can't get the ordinary things working well enough Sad

Howslifenow · 12/09/2020 14:56

Give me some positivity.

These are very pie in the sky - would have to be so accurate to allow people to ditch SD.

SmileEachDay · 12/09/2020 14:59

I don’t think this government have their own bladders under control.
