Do you think UK government has got things under control

With Covid cases rising, infections multiplying in schools , do you think the UK government has got things under control. Track and trace could not handle 1000 cases , has 3000 each per day. Testing has gone AWOL as soon as schools started. Have they stocked PPE.
AIBU - don't worry. It will be alright
AINBU - Don't see any future planning

No. They're chaotic about everything.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/09/2020 15:04

If this Government have got things under control I’m a Golden Goose.

Doesn't anyone think that people have got to take more responsibility? The virus is still out there but looking around me most people seem to have forgotten social distancing and hand hygiene. Dh took ds1 to his first football match since lockdown today. I said 'where you all warned about keeping social distancing?' He said 'where we hell!' He said he was astonished to find other parents shaking each other's hands and even hugging when they greeted each other. I walked the dog in the park today and there was a bunch of mums squashed up on the bench watching their kids, more like 2cm than 2m apart. People in supermarkets just walk past the hand gel at the entrance- probably the same ones that panic bought it in March. If people don't change their behaviour, wtf do you expect the government to do?

Howslifenow · 12/09/2020 15:34

But the government has given mixed messages. Kids don't spread virus. Young her mild Covid. Why would people care if the government says everything is fine and safe.

What I see in schools is everyone in the building taking responsibilities enormously seriously but being totally let down by the shitshow that is education guidance and the total wank that is test, track and trace.

@lifesnotaspectatorsport

Hahahahahahahahaha.

No.

That was my reaction too
MissEliza · 12/09/2020 16:08

@SmileEachDay you're avoiding my question. I also work in a school and we all are doing our very best to keep it clean and safe. However, it's frustrating when I'm out and about and I see families from our school ignoring the very clear guidelines about social distancing. As many paediatricians have pointed out, if community transmission is low, schools will be safe. However, if parents are hosting huge gatherings (as we know has happened repeatedly), we are in a much weaker position to keep Coronavirus out of the school.

justanotherneighinparadise · 12/09/2020 16:10

I think they keep trying to plan ahead and something else thwarts them, do it’s organised chaos and we’ve got Brexit on top of that.

MrsJonesAndMe · 12/09/2020 16:13

No

Redcups64 · 12/09/2020 16:22

No....it’s all a bit of a shit show really

monkeytennis97 · 12/09/2020 16:26

@lifesnotaspectatorsport

Hahahahahahahahaha.

No.

This.
Emmelina · 12/09/2020 16:30

Nope, not even near to controlling it!

ChaChaCha2012 · 12/09/2020 16:36

What do you class as responsible when the government rules and guidelines are illogical and irresponsible? This is the problem, after the Cummings farce we were told to use our common sense, now we're told we should abide by the rules, even when common sense tells us they're nonsense. People don't know what to do for the best.

ChaChaCha2012 · 12/09/2020 16:39

I've seen little evidence of repeated huge gatherings. There have been a few reports of raves, but presumably these aren't what you're referring to?

SabrinaThwaite · 12/09/2020 16:45

Go back to work. Don’t go back to work. Go to the pub. Eat out to help out. Don’t go to the pub. Don’t go out. Go to work but don’t meet up with your family.

No wonder people are confused and passed off.

Plus now you can use the defence that you’re only breaking the rules in a specific and limited way, because that’s just fiiiiiine.

SabrinaThwaite · 12/09/2020 16:45

*pissed off even.

SmileEachDay · 12/09/2020 16:46

you're avoiding my question

I’m not. I’m giving my perspective. There are lots of people taking responsibility. There are undoubtedly some who aren’t.

I think the the entire government without exception government are letting us down.

megletthesecond · 12/09/2020 16:48

🤣🤣🤣 no.

tobee · 12/09/2020 16:48

@luckylavender

No. They're chaotic about everything.

The thing is, I think the chaos is deliberate.

zafferana · 12/09/2020 16:51

I think we're better prepared this time, certainly from the medical POV. At least now we know what we're dealing with, it's lethality, who is vulnerable and why, which treatments work best, etc.

I still think that testing and track and trace is our Achilles heel and now that schools are back we really need this to be shit hot. So many DC are already being sent home and DPs told to get them tested, but the tests just aren't reliably available all over the country and in large enough numbers. I really think the govt needs to have a campaign reminding people of the symptoms to look out for too. This week I've seen several posts on MN where people are unsure of whether they/their DC needs to isolate/test when all they have is a cold. The system will fall apart if everyone with a flipping cold is demanding a test and if DC are expected to stay home for every sniffle then 'everyone back to school' will also fall apart. There need to be clear guidelines about what is possible Covid and what isn't.

ThatDamnScientist · 12/09/2020 16:52

😂😂😂😂😂

Have they fuck! They couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery!!

MissEliza · 12/09/2020 17:35

@ChaChaCha2012 you don't know you should keep your distance from people not in your household and practice good hand hygiene? What is confusing about that? I wish people would stop going on about that dickhead Dominic Cummings. I want to keep my family and colleagues safe so I'll follow the rules. I'm not going to use other people's bad behaviour to justify not doing so.
One recent rule which was crystal clear was about quarantining on return from certain countries. Many people put their two fingers up at that. A friend of my dh's returned from France and put his kids straight into school. If I knew the name of the school, I would have contacted them.
