Do your hair and get back into work..
All from the comfort of his own home. Mind blown.

Lord Alan is of course just worried about all these office blocks that he owns and rents out through Amshold and Amsprop in places like Mayfair being empty and the losses he will now incur due to the fact that we have found a better way to live and work.

The world is changing. Either adapt or disappear.

P.s. we are working Alan, just not in your offices. Because we can do it well from home.

I hate working from home.

TheDragQueen · 12/09/2020 13:24

I love beng back at work. Hated WFH as I’m generally very strict in keeping work separate from my real life.

feelingverylazytoday · 12/09/2020 13:31

@Egghead68

*we need to have a functioning economy more than we need people to have social lives. I'm not saying we should allow ourselves to be thrown under the bus but I think we should accept that there is a need to prioritise some activities over others*

Yes, we need to prioritise saving Pret over seeing our own families Hmm

It's not just about you and your family though. It's about saving as many jobs as possible. Do people on this board not understand what a fucking disaster mass unemployment is?
TheDragQueen · 12/09/2020 13:34

They live in their own anti social bubble so they couldn’t give a stuff

Heffalooomia · 12/09/2020 13:34

yes mass unemployment is a disaster but that doesn't mean to say we should prop up businesses which are no longer viable because of covid.
We need to find new ways of doing business, ways of keeping safe and healthy

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 12/09/2020 13:36

Ha, look at all the duds he hired on the apprentice. I don't think I'd be taking advice on who to employ or how to get employed from him.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/09/2020 13:37

I'm much happier now I'm back in the office even if it's only part time. I have a better work life balance as I can switch off, I don't have to look at work stuff all the time.

BoingBoingyBoing · 12/09/2020 13:38

Alan Sugar is a cunt. Who gives a fuck what he has to say?

Funkypolar · 12/09/2020 13:39

I won’t be blamed for mass unemployment. I’ve followed the rules, I’ve stayed home. Now I’m going to save my money rather than spending.

PinkyBrain · 12/09/2020 13:41

I love wfh, I’m so much less tired and stressed and saving an hour commute each way which means I’ve got more energy and inclination to do things after work. I’m doing my own school runs so the kids aren’t having to go to breakfast and after school clubs and we’re all home for dinner every night. Luckily my employer is going with it, work is still getting done and they’re happy if we’re happy (and probably thinking they can save a packet on the big city centre premises we’re currently not using too!).

Egghead68 · 12/09/2020 13:42

Do you not understand that economies have to change and adapt? Or do you think we should still be keeping chimney sweeps, rag and bone men and coach and horses drivers in these same jobs?

TooManyDogsandChildren · 12/09/2020 13:46

We will all be told to WFH if we can very shortly anyway.

TatianaBis · 12/09/2020 13:46

I’ve been WFH for some time before Covid came along. You do need a separate study that is quiet, comfortable and big enough.

Other than that what’s not to like about no hours wasted in commute, being able to nip out for a walk and watch Selling Sunset on your lunchbreak?

Sailingblue · 12/09/2020 13:47

I think there will need to be a balance. WFH has worked well during the pandemic as most people doing it have been experienced at doing their job. We’re finding at my company that it is younger adults that are now finding it quite tough. I never want to go back to 5 days a week in the office but I’d like the option of 2-3. I am missing the buzz and just being able to walk over and have a chat. I haven’t spoken to many people that would like to work from home permanently but I don’t know anyone that hasn’t said they will be demanding the option for regular wfh. This would have never been possible for my husband before Covid and I hope this is the one positive legacy.

RingtheBells · 12/09/2020 13:47

I hated it so much I retired, I only worked 2 days but I quite enjoyed going to the office, it was only a mile away so no commute. I had planned on working another couple of years but Covid came and wfh so I left

MintyMabel · 12/09/2020 13:50

What does a fresh school leaver or graduate's first week in their chosen industry look like if everyone's gone home?

We have a school leavers joined us just as lockdown started. He’s fitted in to the team just fine, working remotely like the rest of us do.

KatherineJaneway · 12/09/2020 13:51

Who gives a care what he thinks?

Sarahbeans · 12/09/2020 13:53

I'm back at work as I'm a teacher. But my DH works from home. He's based in the box room, and it has been great. Saves 2.5 - 3 hours a day on the commute. When needed, he's even worked an extra hour or so at work, and still had more time to himself. Productivity is up as no distractions at home. But best thing, is that our usually dead commuter market town / village has more life to it, as people working from home are now using our high street more. There's more vibrancy to our town.

In the long term, DH is now looking to combine wfh and office working. Will probably do two days in the office and 3 from home. It's a win win for everyone here!

movingonup20 · 12/09/2020 13:53

I'm with him, I don't like working from home, I miss being around people other than dp, it was a novelty in March, it's worn thin! Also so many jobs depend on office workers, not just landlords

RingtheBells · 12/09/2020 13:54

OK if they have their own place but not very good for their parents to have their offspring constantly there if they still live with them.

Staffy1 · 12/09/2020 13:55

Bit of a cheek from someone who probably never has to get public transport to get to work or sit in a stuffy office full of other people.

NotCommuting · 12/09/2020 13:56

I've stuck to rules, hardly seen friends or family so not now worrying about city centre coffee and sandwich chains or Alan Sugars office blocks or his poxy new bakery/Apprentice novelty he wants footfall for.

I do however see the benefit to my local small high street with so many more people like me shopping locally now.

Did Pret or Sugar lose sleep over little backwaters like mine that suffered and was slowly dying when most locals had to commute into cities and not around to shop during the week?

Sheknowsaboutme · 12/09/2020 13:57

If I wanted to work from home id have my own business. But i don't. I want to go to the office, i have fun, chat , see people.

Working from home sucks. Its boring.

dworky · 12/09/2020 13:57

Like anyone takes Alan Sugar seriously.

movingonup20 · 12/09/2020 13:57

The other aspect few people here are acknowledging is the social side of working, younger people especially benefit from this (every London workplace has its pub in my experience). Then there's the business advantages of collaboration by chance, across departments perhaps, innovations that come from chance water cooler conversations. Yes we can set up virtual meetings but it isn't the same
