To ask what stupid things you cry at

I’d say that when it comes to “real stuff” I’m quite stoic. I don’t cry over arguments, terrible days, someone shouting at me etc.

However so far this week I have sobbed over

  • a video on Facebook of a dog doing hydrotherapy
  • a man on who wants to bring a millionaire (I thought he was so nice)
  • listening to song
So Aibu to ask - what’s the stupid things that make you cry.

I'm glad it's not just me.

It's got worse since I had children.

I cry when I get frustrated too, which is incredibly annoying (last time it happened I very carefully explained to the nice young man who was trying to help me with my karate that I Am Not Upset Grin)

thenaughtyone · 10/09/2020 23:01

Today I've cried over the fact that it's Colin Firths 60th birthday and I'll never get to sleep with him. And anything to do with the mistreatment of children. And last night I watched Forrest Gump and I always bawl my eyes out over that.

JadesRollerDisco · 10/09/2020 23:14

I used to never cry for any reason. Now I find myself tearing up over everything fork Disney movies to Taylor Swift songs to particularly poignant Paw Patrol episodes to there being none of my favourite crisps left in the supermarket. I cried when my work trousers were too tight, when there was no hot water at 5am (we never ever run the hot water at 5am but I got up early to have a bath before the kids woke up). I cried when I knocked over my ready meal I'd been looking forward to. I cried when my toddler threw a shoe at me for no reason. And when his nappy leaked. I'm a mess, honestly

Timinfuckingruislip · 10/09/2020 23:21

Oh @JadesRollerDisco I’m sorry. See the first half I get - the second half tell me you need a break

JadesRollerDisco · 10/09/2020 23:21

I cry when I'm really angry and it's taking all my energy not to punch someone, break something or shout all the Fs. Instead I am incredibly polite, extricate myself, and cry tears of silent rage until my murderous feelings subside.

Whatdowehaveherethen · 10/09/2020 23:23

Washing up. Sounds pathetic I know but it's a mundane task that leaves me to spend time thinking about all the awful things that happened in my childhood.

My dishwasher broke the other day.

It's been a sad few days.

RiseUpWiseUpEyesUp · 10/09/2020 23:26

I just cried a bit at The Karate Kid (original, never seen it). Not even the bit where Miyagi is sad because of his wife. The ending?? It’s not even sad Hmm

I cried at an RSPCA advert once. The one with the little kitten screaming for its mum. I turn them over now

I cry at everything!

JadesRollerDisco · 10/09/2020 23:27

@Timinfuckingruislip

Definitely! When the kids went back to nursery and school i was so relieved it felt like I was floating on a cloud. I have started really enjoying public transport delays and traffic jams because it means I get a break! I have kids who scream and fight with each other constantly. Nobody will watch them because they are so awful together! Individually they are lovely. Together it's war!

JoJothesquirrel · 10/09/2020 23:38

@GreenPlum I thought it was just me. The bit when they take him and how him his exhibition and the guide says “he was quite simply the most important artist who ever lived” or similar and he hears it! I sobbed for 20 mins then realised he died never knowing he was incredible. Then I realised so many brilliant people die without anyone knowing their brilliance. Then I think basically all people are brilliant and deserve a chance to prove it but there’s slaves and abused children and scared people by the millions. And that’s Thursday over in a snivelling bubble.

I cry at basically everything, and then the memory of that thing and then I cry cause I’m privileged to have the time and space to cry over what a lot of people call life. There’s and argument for therapy lol.

How many people have dropped tears into babies not their own? Pretty much every newborn I meet.

weneedboujiecocktails · 10/09/2020 23:40

Lloyd's bank advert. Every. Single. Time.

Lozz22 · 10/09/2020 23:59

Pretty much everything. The most ridiculous one has to be the magnet kitchen advert though. Right at the end where it goes magnet may have made me, but you made me part of your family. Full on snot tears the lot 😅

somm · 11/09/2020 00:03

When I start to talk about my dog, who died of cancer two years ago. He was the fourth dog we lost, usually down to old age (all rescues), but for some reason he broke my heart like no other.

I had to leave the room 😂 but yes, I could hear what the guy was saying about him 😩 I told DS to remind me to watch it again when I'm not feeling so fragile!

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 11/09/2020 00:07

Lots of adverts Years ago a Birdseye advert where the vegetables that were not good enough where not allowed in the packet. They looked so sad 😭

When ds is asleep he is cuddling his soft toy and the cat is cuddled up to him

Looking at pictures of ds when he was little the time goes so quickly

MJMG2015 · 11/09/2020 00:29

@Crylittlesister
@44PumpLane

I cry at everything too.

It really really annoys me because I cry even when I'm angry /frustrated - not just sad and it weakens my position. I just can't stop it 🤬

I've tried the tongue on the top of your mouth thing & all sorts!

I hate it about myself too!

Timinfuckingruislip · 11/09/2020 00:29

I’m almost crying over the answers on this thread!

But am glad I’m not the only one who’s prone to strange bursts of emotion!

Today I cried about killing a moth... even though I can't afford to let the bugger stay indoors and eat holes in my clothes and carpets Blush

The ending of Disney Pocahontas
Animal cruelty charity adverts

Athletics Confused
No other sporting activities mind. I love pretty much all sports, but it’s only athletics that make cry, for some reason

Furries · 11/09/2020 04:05

I’m a nightmare for anything animal-related, probably loads that I’ve forgotten, but a few examples:

As a kid, apparently Lassie upset me a lot. So my mum decided it was best I didn’t watch it. On hearing this, I packed my favourite dress in my satchel and announced I was leaving home (didn’t make it far, got scared, came home!)

Littlest Hobo upset me - I just wanted him to find a home (yes, am sure he was happier being a free spirit!)

Beethoven - when he’s being taken away from the family home for supposedly “biting” the bad guy. The scene where the kids are in the background of the rear view window.

Marley & Me - don’t think I need to explain the science!

A Dog Named Haachi - yes, it was schmaltzy American twist on a true story, but jeez - watching that on a plane was not a good idea!

I’ve even shed a tear at a meerkat advert - think it was one of the little ones lost somewhere. Obviously so traumatic that I’ve erased it from my memory!

There are lots of more important real life things that can make me cry, but this just highlights that I’m a daft, sobbing old moo in relation to the animal stuff!

joanna183 · 11/09/2020 04:12

The Britain’s Got Talent auditions. I can’t stand it after the initial auditions, but those get me every time. It doesn’t happen with any other ‘talent’ show. I think it’s when the audience get behind the underdog. Sobbing every week.

DiggerDave · 11/09/2020 04:12

I'm a 6'2, 18 stone bloke who likes powerlifting. I'll bet nobody I know would imagine how often I'm reduced to tears by emotive music!

BitOfFun · 11/09/2020 04:15

I can cry at ANYTHING, including bloody memes on Facebook , but I was quite taken aback when I forced DH to come to the cinema to watch Les Misérables (he swore he hated musicals), and he was absolutely sobbing within fifteen minutes Grin.

VesperLynne · 11/09/2020 04:18

Teddy Bears on "The Repair Shop".

BitOfFun · 11/09/2020 04:47

Oh my word- The Repair Shop! Every time! Grin
