YANBU. A bib is a little piece of cloth. There is no verb "to bib".

Pobblebonk · 10/09/2020 21:02

@TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot

Bibbing and beeping are different sounds.

A bib is a short, gentle noise that means something a bit like a polite "excuse me".

A beep is a longer, louder noise that means something like a yelled "oi, you, what the hell do you think you're doing?"

No, the short gentle noise is a beep. The longer, louder noise is a hoot, or, taken to extremes, a blast.
yelyah22 · 10/09/2020 21:03

It's bipped if it's short, beeped if it's long.

Laaalaaaa · 10/09/2020 21:04

Peeped or blast depending on severity.

MrsWooster · 10/09/2020 21:05

Surely the bibber is the proper name for the remote locking fob? Noun and verb: “have you bibbed the car with the bibber?” Alt form: acceptable for any remote control (slang)

Vigoro · 10/09/2020 21:06

Bibbed or pipped.

Jayaywhynot · 10/09/2020 21:06

No need to BEEP your horn, if you've got time to BEEP you've got time to take evasive action.
I always say this to my OH, drives him crackers Smile

HardAsSnails · 10/09/2020 21:06

It was bibbed where I grew up.

Laaalaaaa · 10/09/2020 21:07

Bibbed, bibber, bib are all utterly ridiculous terms.

Reallybadidea · 10/09/2020 21:07

@JorisBonson

Parped
Do you drive Noddy's car?
daisypond · 10/09/2020 21:08

Bip or beep.

Iwantacookie · 10/09/2020 21:08

Oh my grandad used to say pip the horn so when we got somewhere I was allowed to give 3 pips on the horn so people knew we had arrived GrinGrin

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 10/09/2020 21:10

BEEP for me. Never heard of bibbed or bipped.

Had an ex from Blackburn and they said "pipped". Actually sounds really charming in the strong Lancashire accent him and his Dad had (his Dad was telling a story about someone "pipping" at him)

Saz12 · 10/09/2020 21:11

“Beeped” is grumpy-driver for “get the fuck out the way you dick”. “Bibbed” is annoying-driver for “oh hello Mrs Neighbour, lovely to see you!”.

“Parped” is farty.
“Hooted” is tweedy-old-git-speak.
“Honked” is either a goose, or boob-related humour.

BrandoraPaithwaite · 10/09/2020 21:11

HONK

PeachForTheStars · 10/09/2020 21:11

My MIL say papped.

AKAanothername · 10/09/2020 21:12

It's 'tooted' you toot the horn.

Longdistance · 10/09/2020 21:12

Yanbu. Beeped the horn

SisterAgatha · 10/09/2020 21:13

I’m just hear to say I miss the comedy horns that got banned in the 90’s.

Na-naa-na-na-nanana-nanana-naaaa!

ItchyScratch · 10/09/2020 21:14

Actually you can either:

Beeeeeep

Beep

Bip

Depending on how hard and long you press the horn for.

Bipping is good to show you friend your outside their house to collect them.

Beeping is good to make someone aware they are about to back into you

Beeeeeeping is good for when someone has been a dick head and nearly crashed into you

Sittingonthefence83 · 10/09/2020 21:14

Grin I've always said bibbed, always sort of knew it was probably wrong though. Everyone I know says bibbed too, maybe it's a Midlands thing?

Dogsgowoofwoof · 10/09/2020 21:15

Yabu it’s definitely bibbed.
Bib bib.

MillieEpple · 10/09/2020 21:16

Bibbed is a friendly
Honk is angry
Beeped is alerting someone to your presence to avoid an accident

Igotthemheavyboobs · 10/09/2020 21:16

@BrandoraPaithwaite

HONK
Thank you! I thought I was going mad Grin

OP yabu it is honked not beeped or bibbed.

Silverhairedfoxylady · 10/09/2020 21:16

I'd say Beeped maybe it's a regional thing?
