Just a bit of fun. I always end up buying similar food items in my weekly shop. Occasionally I’ll try something new and it’s really nice and I’ll continue to buy it. For example last week I bought some balsamic chutney from Morrison’s- it was so good I’ve added it to most sandwich fillings yum 😋

Have you bought anything new recently which you’ve been really impressed with?

@storminabuttercup those Iceland fish goujons make a cracking fish taco. One of the most popular shortcut dinners in our house.

BeaLola · 11/09/2020 08:12

Aldi: Oaties & chocolate digestives
Cheeky monkey ice cream beloved by my DS12
Frozen cocktails - the mango one
Their small frozen prawns - tasty
Manchengo cheese
In fact Aldi in general since lockdown as one opened just before

M&S: the 2 pack Eccles cakes
Prawn Sui Mui
Colin cake Smile

Various supermarkets frozen croissants or danish

Best thing recently that I love - Gordal olives - so yummy and I'm picky about olives

FrankiesKnuckle · 11/09/2020 08:21

@thinkingaboutLangCleg Have you tried marmite hummus?.....

Can get it in Tesco!

ifoundafoxcaughtbydogs · 11/09/2020 08:49

Chemoula. Sort of a citrus marinade. I put it on salmon and then top with breadcrumbs but it's so versatile.

AngusThermopyle · 11/09/2020 08:56

@KimchiLaLa
Yes that's fine if you have one within travelling distance. I don't Grin

Londonsuffolkmummy · 11/09/2020 09:08

Sabra houmous I won’t say supermarket ones now they have the texture and flavour of cif

Marmite bagels were lovely this was years ago they don’t sell them anymore.

Londonsuffolkmummy · 11/09/2020 09:10

Iceland salt and vinegar fish goujons
M&S jazz apples

Belindabelle · 11/09/2020 09:46

Polish grated beetroot. Love it with goats cheese.
Polish horseradish. Just grated root. Add your own cream, mayo etc to taste.
Chipotle paste. Great to add to mayo and sour cream for a dip.
Smoked salt flakes. I am addicted.
Roasted garlic paste. Again makes a great dip.
Sweet smoked paprika. Makes everything taste better.
M&S burger mayo sauce.

Morrisons sell a big 400g bag of crispy fried onions in the world food aisle for about £1.79; normally pay £1.19 for a tiny tub, (about 80-100g).

You used to be able to buy it in-store, but ours only sell it online now, although other stores may be different.

Ratonastick · 11/09/2020 10:04

Frozen herbs are fantastic, really handy way of keeping a good selection of fresh herbs. I have tried freezing my own but ended up with sludge so I guess they must be blasted somehow. But the best things ever are the polish equivalent of Jaffa cakes. Tesco has the raspberry ones but the local polish supermarket has apricot, cherry, strawberry, you name it!

sansou · 11/09/2020 10:06

Cranberry, raisin & cashew bloomer from Tesco's - toasted with butter for breakfast.

Also the Portuguese Custard Tarts - 4pk for £2 bargain. Obviously not as good as the £2.50 individual ones from the posh baker's but it's not a fortune when I'm buying 8 at a time for a family of 4.

Flying Goose Sriracha Hot Chilli Sauce - DH is a convert.

sansou · 11/09/2020 10:18

Normal loaf of choice - Johnson's Seeded Bloomer from Waitrose.
The Cooks' Ingredients ras el hanout is my go to for a lamb tagine.

WellRiddleMeThis · 11/09/2020 10:21

Not supermarket but Wickes

Own brand white emulsion. Surprisingly good coverage!

Gatekeeper · 11/09/2020 10:36

I am slavvering over my keyboard reading these- what a brilliant thread!

Sexnotgender · 11/09/2020 10:38

@Jigglypuffly

Co-op irresistible sea salt and chardonnay vinegar crisps. Also known as magic crisps. Soooooooo moreish it's dangerous.
My husband and I ate a whole bag last night. They are soooo good.

I’ll add frozen paratha to the list. Absolutely delicious. The best ones are from Morrison’s.

Anthilda · 11/09/2020 10:49

Aldi pizza bases (in the fridge) stonebaked or sourdough. Then I grab a pack of pre grated mozzarella cheese, a pack of ham, pepperoni and chicken tikka.
The kids share this and do half n half pizza and decide their own toppings. Apparently they are delicious, never any waste.

For a quicker option, aldi do lovely sweet chilli chicken frozen pizzas (in the green box).

Aldi cook in the bag chicken with stuffing is best I have tasted.

Aldi shortbread biscuits.

Aldi chocolate with salted pretzel pieces - There are no words!
I KNOW! DH and I hide it from the kids.
ChicCroissant · 11/09/2020 10:51

Disappointed to see that others have found the Tesco seed bites, they are very more-ish Grin

Tesco gold coffee is nice, bought it when Dowe Egberts was out of stock and loved it (obviously you don't get the lovely coffee jar that DE has).

IntermittentParps · 11/09/2020 11:43

Yes, those jars of peppers in oil are great. I add them to otherwise boring roast veg and they make it seem a bit more special. I get them from the corner shops in my neck of the woods, which are all Turkish/Kurdish; they have huge jars for a couple of quid.

Swallowzandamazons · 11/09/2020 11:49

Marmite cheese in single portions. Dangerous. I have to limit myself to one a day or a pack of five would be gone in 5 mins.

Mr Tom peanut brittle bar. I used to get these at Tesco but they seem to have got rid of their "bargain" aisle in my local store during lockdown and I haven't seen if they're hidden anywhere else yet. DH would ration himself and make it last a week if he could, but it was a real struggle at times.

Tesco own brand fruit jelly sweets. Way more flavour than the expensive ones (New Berry Fruit Jewels taste like crap in comparison), cheap as chips and absolutely gorgeous. The lemon ones actually taste of lemon!

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 11/09/2020 11:59

Have you tried marmite hummus?.....Can get it in Tesco!

Thanks, FrankiesKnuckle! That has jumped to the top of the shopping list I've been compiling from this thread.

Branleuse · 11/09/2020 12:01

osem chicken flavour stock. Ive only seen itin sainsbos.. Its accidentally vegan too if that helps anyone. my favourite stock for soups.www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/kosher/osem-chicken-soup-400g

Crucials yoghurt and mint dressing. You get this in iceland and poundland etc. Its brilliant. Its so cheap and is amazing in potato salads or on currys. Just like the ones you get in the takeaways. Its brilliant on nearly everything. Ive told loads of people about it.

also, I feel like I almost shouldnt tell you in case it all gets bought up, but this is THE best bread ive found in the UK BAR NONE.
Amazing texture. Best toast ever. In fact do buy it so the company does really well and more supermarkets start stocking it, as so far ive only found it in larger sainsburies and waitrose. Its worth the money

Aldi White Choc with Madagascar vanilla 😋
xwizbit · 11/09/2020 13:56

M&S Cocktail in a can are amazing!
Pina Colada and Mojito are my favourites. Way above the usual Asda/Sainsbury/Morrison versions. £2 each or sometimes they have them on offer at 3 for £5.
