To ask your preferred working hours

narcdad45 · 08/09/2020 18:54

Posting for traffic and also curious to hear from others what your preferred working hours would be if the choice was.

A: Monday to Wednesday 10am - 5pm
B: Monday to Thursday 8-4 Term time

Salary would be £1k extra for B and I'd still be entitled to annual leave

2 kids 5 & 8 and absolutely no family support and 40 minute commute each way.
Sorry don't know how to do voting.

B

AlrightTreacle · 08/09/2020 18:56

B hands down.

You'll probably save more than a grand a year in childcare?

MoonBase10 · 08/09/2020 18:57

Would you need breakfast club for B? This may negate that 1k more.

If i didnt need to factor in breakfast club then cid choose B

Even though its more days in the week the term time only would sway me as it would save the headaches of school hols

TwoBlueFish · 08/09/2020 18:57

B will mean paying for before and after school care which will easily eat your extra £1k.

I vote A

WorraLiberty · 08/09/2020 18:58

Definitely B

ShakerCan · 08/09/2020 18:58

BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB!!! Smile

GunsAndShips · 08/09/2020 18:59

I work 9-3 in term time. I used to do more what you describe in A.

B. Every time.

riotlady · 08/09/2020 18:59

B for sure

BF2748 · 08/09/2020 19:00

Maybe calculate the costs to see if B is worth the extra Money.

hammeringinmyhead · 08/09/2020 19:00

B. But it depends what the childcare option is for 8-9am and school finish-4.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 08/09/2020 19:01

B is the dream surely?

dchange · 08/09/2020 19:07

Not worth it. You will need to pay for breakfast and after school clubs. Assuming this is £5 per child, this will equate to £20 a day. Times this by 40 weeks this will cost £4000 (annually/term time). If you are getting an extra £1k annually. Then not worth it. Better to do A and pay £10 a day for only after after school which will work out to £2,000 annually.

However, does B give you career progression? Also worth considering as these kids are not forever young.

Sarahbeans · 08/09/2020 19:10

B

Yes, you'd have to pay for after school care, but there would be no school holiday clubs to pay for.

Plus you get the school holidays off with your children!

fartyface · 08/09/2020 19:12

Id choose a. I don't like early starts and 3 days is better than 4.

narcdad45 · 08/09/2020 19:16

Sorry should have said in op, Childcare costs the same as they charge extra for pick up after 5pm and mon-wed I pick up at 6pm

@fartyface 🤣 love your username

I'm a night owl but since having kids realised a "lie in" is no longer something I'm allowed 😩

HunterHearstHelmsley · 08/09/2020 19:21

Your childcare costs would be higher with A because of having to cover the school holidays. B for me defo.

Redraptor · 08/09/2020 19:23

B sounds way better

Devlesko · 08/09/2020 19:23

In your situation B without a second thought.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 08/09/2020 19:25

Definitely B, even without the extra money.

TheLastStarfighter · 08/09/2020 19:29

BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

managedmis · 08/09/2020 19:31

I'm sorry, how is A even an option?

Livelovebehappy · 08/09/2020 19:34

Definitely ‘A’. Couldn’t even imagine getting two DCs up and out of house so early. Especially on dark winter mornings.

Tappering · 08/09/2020 19:40

If the wrap-around childcare costs for A and B are the same, then definitely B as it will save you a fortune for all the holiday childcare - especially over the summer.

Tappering · 08/09/2020 19:40

Sorry meant to say the wrap-around childcare costs for the after school for A vs. the before and after school for B.
