WildCherryBlossom · 06/09/2020 21:21

Charlotte in Charlotte's Web (still upsetting decades later, and I really don't like spiders)

Wincarnis · 06/09/2020 21:24

Charlotte in Charlotte’s Web. Cried my eyes out when my mother read it to me, still makes me cry now. Don’t get me started on Goodbye Mog...

wolfmom · 06/09/2020 21:26

Bobby Singer

Sirius Black

RedRec · 06/09/2020 21:27

It took me a while to get over the suicide of the Woody Harrelson character in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Bassettgirl · 06/09/2020 21:28

The Snowman.

FilthyforFirth · 06/09/2020 21:28

Mrs Landingham and Leo in West Wing. I avoid both episodes when rewatching. Leo I understand obviously but Mrs Landingham is just so devestating.

Also Will Gardner in Good Wife.

Oh my god yes when Billy died I cried for days!

And Tris in Divergent (the books), I'll never forgive Veronica Roth for doing that, there was a massive uproar about it.

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 06/09/2020 21:35

@littlecatfeet

@Porcupineinwaiting

Well, until last year Dido Twite from "Black Hearts in Battersea". I used to read and reread it, hoping I'd misinterpreted the ending and she hadn't drowned.

Then last year I found out that there was a sequel. And yes, she survived. Hmm

@Porcupineinwaiting, I read Nightbirds on Nantucket as a child, it was published in 1966. It was a trilogy back then. I’ve just discovered it’s now an 11 book series with the fourth book published in 1981, when I was 16 and more into Lace and The Thornbirds! I’m gutted. I loved Joan Aitken books.
MagMell · 06/09/2020 21:36

@Oysterbabe

The nightingale in The Nightingale and the Rose.

God yes. I have childhood trauma from reading that too.

Yes to the nightingale’s death in ‘The Nightingale and the Rose’! My eight year old has been given a beautiful edition of Wilde’s fairytales and I’m not letting him near them. Probably till he’s of voting age.

Johnny’s death in The Outsiders. ‘Stay gold, Ponyboy!’
Paul Emmanuel’s death in Villette.
Magwitch’s death in Great Expectations.
The deaths of Cromwell’s daughters in Wolf Hall.
Ruth’s death in Spooks.
Hazel’s death in Watership Down.

Shmithecat2 · 06/09/2020 21:37

Robbie and Cecelia in Atonement
Bubba in Forest Gump

MagMell · 06/09/2020 21:39

But, on a contrary note, I’ve always felt Neil in Dead Poets Society should have calmed down, told his dad he’d hold off on the am dram till he’d finished school, and then sodded off to audition for Juilliard or somewhere.

FranklyADick · 06/09/2020 21:42

Adric in Doctor Who. I think Peter Davidson was the Doctor at the time.

angelicabtton · 06/09/2020 21:45

The sparrow in The Happy Prince
Emma (Deborah Winger) In Terms of Endearment
Also agree Ruth in Spooks, Emma in One Day & others
Roger in His Dark Materials

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 06/09/2020 21:49

Dobby.
Jodi from My sister Jodi by Jacqueline Wilson. I read it in advance of my daughter to make sure it was suitable. I really didn’t it coming and was so shocked.

LearnedResponse · 06/09/2020 21:53

So many of these: the only ones I can think of who nobody has mentioned are Ros from Spooks and Theon Greyjoy from GOT. Although I boycotted the episode where Shireen died.
As I type this Alfie Allen is about to go into goal for penalties for Soccer Aid and I’m rooting for him in a slightly confused way because he’s so brave!!

Bassettgirl · 06/09/2020 21:55

Oh my goodness yes, Johnny from the Outsiders. I was heartbroken. And Cromwell's daughters... harrowing!

And Ruth from Spooks, although it was inevitable.

BilboBercow · 06/09/2020 22:02

Robb Stark. It all could have been so difficult.

Redyoyo · 06/09/2020 22:03
