School PE

Yes it's trivial but AIBU to be annoyed I've been told on Friday evening that the kids will be travelling to school in their PE kit on PE day and staying in it all day? This means I've had to order another pair of trainers for Monday. Managed to find some trail running ones with a grip sole and water resistance. His feet would be soaked if travelling in his usual PE trainers. His school shoes keep his feet dry but ordinary trainers won't. PE is first lesson so if they get wet through outside they will be sat in lessons in wet PE kit all day

Why not wear school shoes to school and change into trainers for PE?

Pipandmum · 04/09/2020 21:17

Our school is also having kids in kit throughout the day they do PE/games. Have to say I hadn't thought of them getting wet, though PE is held at the end of the day so matters less.

Merinocool · 04/09/2020 21:19

Ours is the same, I was hoping if it’s wet they would do PE in the hall but maybe that’s optimistic

Bunnybigears · 04/09/2020 21:19

Surely having PE trainers that let your feet get soaking wet was a bad idea anyway. They still do PE in the rain you know.

netflixismysidehustle · 04/09/2020 21:24

Our school said to pack a towel and studs for PE days as it's going to be outdoors in all weather and no changing room.

Serena1977 · 04/09/2020 21:25

It's because of covid I'd imagine. So the pe kit is not hanging about at school and goes home in the same day for washing. Our school are only doing pe on the afternoons and fully outside what ever the weather, again because of covid and the risks of being inside and heavy breathing/ventilation.

arethereanyleftatall · 04/09/2020 21:30

Im missing something here. Why would his feet be wet if he wears trainers? I wear trainers, all day, every day.

IamChipmunk · 04/09/2020 21:38

Ours have said the same this aft so Ive had to order reception age dd a tracksuit and trainers.
They hav said its to help staff maintain distancing, especially with the little ones (I guess some need help getting dressed) and also to minimise extra 'stuff' coming in from home.
Bit frustrating as they normally only do bits and bobs inside in reception but as she will be in it all day she needs more than just the usual shorts and tshirt.
Oh well! Hopefully it will fit all year.
Ds stuff from last year still fits him (just about!) So just trainers needed for him.

nosswith · 04/09/2020 21:45

Be grateful you don't have to sit in a classroom afterwards. Hope the school windows can be kept open.

SomewhereEast · 04/09/2020 22:12

Our school is having PE indoors & changing at school as normal (which I'm 100% fine with). I'm honestly not sure why PE kits are magically more infectious at other schools??? Grin.

cricketballs3 · 04/09/2020 22:21

I'm sorry but ffs! How many threads are we going to gave saying schools are being UB? We do one thing to try and keep the whole community safe, we get battered, do something different to keep the whole community safe we get battered...

This is what the work shy lefties have been warning you all about 🤦‍♀️

W00t · 04/09/2020 22:23

@SomewhereEast I think it's more to do with the size of the enclosed spaces in school changing rooms!

Letmegetthisrightasawoman · 04/09/2020 22:25

What @cricketballs3 said!

walker1891 · 04/09/2020 22:29

The teachers will also be wet through for the rest of the day. They are not expecting anything of the kids that they are not doing themselves.

notso · 04/09/2020 22:31

It's quite short notice isn't it.
Mine have to wear PE kit on relevant days and have to have shoes for indoors that stay in school to avoid the wet/muddy feet issues but it we were told this was the case before the summer holidays started.

Absolutely!

OP, you're being absolutely ridiculous.
Your children can change their shoes at school, if that's better. It's the changing of clothes that's the issue, not what's on their feet.

And your kids should have decent all-weather PE shoes.

LaurieFairyCake · 04/09/2020 22:38

Have you thought about getting trainers that are waterproof?

LIKE ALL TRAINERS

notso · 04/09/2020 22:55

They're not though, loads of trainers have mesh, I presume to make them less sweaty which lets the water in.

beargryllshasabigrope · 04/09/2020 23:03

I really don't understand all his hoo ha about pe kits for a full day.

Either shorts/t shirt combo and trainers, or tracksuit and trainers.

It's comfy. Can be adapted for the weather. Seems simple to me.

Starlightstarbright1 · 06/09/2020 18:52

My Ds wears trainers to school every day.

They haven't returned yet but do pe in shorts outside so will be interested to see what they say.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 06/09/2020 18:57

My DD has to go in uniform wearing trainers as they will be doing ‘light PE’ on PE days. No idea what exercise will be done in a skirt & tights. Maybe Country Dancing😆

timeforanew · 06/09/2020 19:04

Ours have wellies, football boots and indoor trainers at school. they wear their outdoor trainers to school on PE days. They also have their forrest school clothes (joggers and longsleeved shirt).
So they can always change shoes, and if they are completely soaked, there are spare clothes.

PaternosterLoft · 06/09/2020 19:13

My primary aged child is going in in PE kit and wearing it all day until they have PE last thing.

For secondary they are going in in PE kit if their lessons is in the morning, and then have to change into their uniform; or changing into it at school and coming home in it if the lesson is in the afternoon. That's going to be fun after rugby.

recededpronunciation · 06/09/2020 19:13

Ours (secondary) are going in in games kit on games days because otherwise they’d all be crammed into changing rooms with no hope in hell of keeping any sensible distance. Makes perfect sense to me.

Aragog · 06/09/2020 19:17

Most schools are doing this - PE days children go to school in PE kit. It should be appropriate for the weather, but also parents (and children) should also be aware that it is subject to change. If the weather is too bad, PE may not happen.

At present, at my school, our hall is out of use due to overrunning building work (outside fo the school's control) elsewhere and the space being needed for that. Therefore there will be no indoor PE for the next month.

We have asked for no PE kits in school as when on the pegs they use up more of the corridor space than when they are not there. Also, as we are an infant school, it is difficult to have the class changing and be able to maintain any form of distancing and without spreading clothes and items everywhere, plus many still need help getting changed.

Many children spend most of their out of school time in sports wear and trainers. It is perfectly possible to buy traders suitable for wearing outside in all but the very wort of weather - and in that case they're unlikely to be out doing it anyway.
