I need to buy a large Victoria Sponge

Sorry to hijack AIBU but I need traffic! DD is 18 on Monday and I'd assumed a large chocolate cake would do. She said this morning she'd really like a Victoria Sponge instead!

I DO NOT bake, it's obviously too late to get one made for me, so does anyone know where I can buy a really nice large Victoria Sponge in a shop???? I will decorate but can't bake one.

Please let me know if you have any bright ideas and I'll save you a piece Cake Smile Many many thanks

Lola's Cucpcakes do full size cakes too and have a beautiful looking Victoria sponge.

I checked the delivery for my area and they could do Monday.

What is this Costco of which people speak?

Is it a discount supermarket like Lidl for example?

frustrationcentral · 04/09/2020 15:53

@diddl , Costco is like a bulk buy warehouse. You have to be a member to buy - or go with a member

I'd try asking a friend @tactum !

diddl · 04/09/2020 15:57

@frustrationcentral

Thanks!

M&s do a nice Victoria sponge. Do you have any bakeries near you? There is one near me that have full cakes made for service during the day if you go first thing you may be able to get one full and not sliced (obvs a bakery near you, not mine!).
I also think Cake Box deliver but not sure if you'll get what you want in time

HM1984 · 04/09/2020 16:04

Just typed order Victoria sponge in Google and this came up, with next day delivery too.

Facebook might be your friend. Shop bought won't satisfy your DDs yen for a Victoria sponge. And if you don't have the tins or inclination to bake one no matter how esay the recipe, then ask on your local facebook page and hope someone like me sees your message!

I'd make you one, a large one, delivered on Sunday ready to go and we could work out a price, or barter, for the cost!!

DalzielandPaxo · 04/09/2020 16:15

Christ almighty, just make one. It’s so easy.

pollysproggle · 04/09/2020 16:26

If you're in London I'll make you one!

BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT

agododopushpineapple · 04/09/2020 16:29

I know two local bakeries that do sell entire Victoria sponges (am in se London) so bet you may have an equivalent.

TheFuckingDogs · 04/09/2020 16:30

M&S - you pay for it but it will be delicious

tactum · 04/09/2020 16:34

Thanks all for you help - I'm very grateful! I checked out a couple of those links but where I am I couldn't get delivery in time, and another seemed quite pricey. Am also nowhere near Costco.

Am going to head into town tomorrow am and hit Morrisons/Waitrose/M&S and a couple of local bakeries - do a full reccie and then make a decision. But your info has been most welcome, thank you.

Get in early to the bakeries! Good luck!

YukoandHiro · 04/09/2020 16:36

Local independent cafe - they will probably sell you a whole cake early in the AM or you can call now and request that

Letseatgrandma · 04/09/2020 16:44

This is a good post-I don’t have a Costco near me and I’m not a member anyway, so that’s no good.

Can you buy Victoria sponges at Marks and Spencers in the actual store or do people mean going into a M+S cafe and asking for one there?

dannydyerismydad · 04/09/2020 16:47

It's the easiest cake in the world. You can have one made in less than 1 hour. If you're in Berkshire I'd happily make one for you.

Crystal87 · 04/09/2020 18:07

Are you anywhere near a Dobbies garden centre? They do really nice cakes.

minnieok · 04/09/2020 18:14

Put a plea out on the nextdoor app or similar, there's bound to be a cake baker locally. They are super easy to make, if you give a clue to where you are then maybe someone here can come to your rescue

QuestionableMouse · 04/09/2020 18:23

You could also order a few bits to decorate it. All you'd need to do is slice it in half, apply jam and cream and then put the lid back on.

QuestionableMouse · 04/09/2020 18:25

Also have a look on Just eat. My area has at least three cake shops on there and I bet if you rang one they'd sell you one.

This sort of thing.

KitKatastrophe · 04/09/2020 18:28

A plain Victoria sponge will take 10 minutes to make and half an hour to cook. Dont you have a friend who could make it for you (you could pay for their time and ingredients?) Or ask around on Facebook. Seems like a waste of money to buy a shop bought victoria sponge which wont be half as nice as a home made one.

TenDays · 04/09/2020 18:43

Most supermarkets and freezer shops stock large sponge cakes. It doesn't have to be top notch as you can save cutting it until everyone has filled up with other stuff so they won't notice!

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 04/09/2020 18:48

Oh bloody hell, I love baking and yes if you can bake it's nice and quick to do a VS but OP doesn't like baking and wants to buy one. I'm sure lots of people like putting shelves up but I like someone else doing it for me because I am useless at it.

Local cafe or FB baker - it should be pretty straightforward for them with a couple of days notice.
