Currently alcohol kills twice as many people per day as Covid 19. We accept this fact, and still sell it, drink it etc. It’s part of life. 20 times more people die of smoking than of Covid per day currently.

How is this relevant? Alcoholism and smoking are not infectious.

The difference is that with Covid it is highly contagious and invisible. I don't think alcohol nor tobacco etc is? I drink (in moderation) but never smoked but occasionally forced into an unavoidable passive smoking situation outside office buildings etc. With Covid there is no medical cure either.

So yes if you are a chain smoking alcoholic bomb disposal personnel in the middle of war torn Syria whist being carpet bombed you may surely be at a greater risk than dying from Covid!

I can accept these figures.
I have three schools near me - within 3 miles that all have covid positive pupils. (Scotland)

Yes. Reported in newspaper, but I'm actually aware of more, not reported. We are on the verge of local lockdown though.

Eeek middle :(

Splendidseptember · 09/09/2020 23:11

4 schools in my local vicinity. I told myself it would all be OK because we now have excellent testing in place and quick access to tests. 🙄

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 10/09/2020 10:25

😱. Thats not going to be sustainable long term is it?!

Our area is currently much lower risk but still seems to be people diagnosed every day with it so presumably its sptesding like wildfire.

Howslifenow · 10/09/2020 16:23

500 schools impacted now in UK.

MigGril · 10/09/2020 16:31

We where taking bets at school yesterday as to how long it would be before the schools are off again. I couldn't believe some teachers though we'd make it till November. I think we'll end up implementing the government's 2 last ditch rota system. To reduce the spread, a school near us didn't even make if to full opening before they had to isolate 90 students. 8 members of staff tested positive within 4 days.

spanieleyes · 10/09/2020 16:38

There are three secondary schools in my town, one already has a Covid positive child. The three schools share schools buses between them ( boys and girls Grammar schools and a mixed secondary school) . The children wear masks in the bus queue and, as soon as the bus sets off, you can see the masks coming off too. It will be round all three schools in no time!

17 now!
ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 10/09/2020 17:16

Would it not be so so helpful to get some of the basic info as to which schools already have detected Covid in the UK as unless officially reported and substantiated (eg public websites) then it all hearsay and unconfirmed rumours.

Details are important as unless it's all top secret and need to know as perhaps I am looking at the wrong parts of the internet.

I do believe Covid unfortunately will occur in any indoor mass gathering setting but actual information would be ideal in case it close to home but kept under wraps.

24 schools at least now confirmed in the Birningham area, within a week of returning. 7 more reported since my post this afternoon.

Officially reported and statements from schools. I'm afraid this is happening and not just hearsay.
