Test and trace will be overwhelmed in weeks now the English schools are back. They are already struggling for capacity and prioritising the areas of concern.

What will start with isolating close contacts will turn into sending home year groups and then whole schools because there won't be the manpower to do the contact tracing.

dave43law · 04/09/2020 16:32

These numbers are correct and verified from several sources - indeed they are probably low now as on another source there are at least 12 in England now altho Government are hiding data............also 1940 new cases today highest since May 31st

dave43law · 04/09/2020 16:36

In relation to testing comment - that is already failing data released yesterday after it was stated tests have run out in some areas and there is no accessability to home tests in others........ Track and Trace data stated it is now taking an average of 86hrs to get the results of a home test. BBC also reported labs overwhelmed unable to cope processing up to 170000 tests per day - have been doing 100,000 a long way from the Government stating we are doing over 200000 - the labs cannot cope with less so they have lied throughout.

Unfortunately people on MN have stopped looking at facts. Say something with facts and you are scaremongering. No one will counter with facts but say take your kids out of school!!

or, as in my case mostly, they will ignore me totally and respond to some emotional outburst....

Actually when you look a little more into the superficial official UK figures they only give an approximate (under estimate) as to actual Covid infection figures. Surely in the real world - figures would be higher if there was actually any resemblance of compulsory, accurate, mass and repeat testing. Instead we have limited sample testing and guesstimate as to geographic hot spots. There are therefore no scientifically controlled and audit prof figures. Probably why the government has already knocked off a few thousand Covid deaths as if we are looking at this as numbers on a screen and not actual people and lives lost. There is in addition no agreed international accounting standard and naturally if we UK are adjusting figures because they don't fit with politics etc then surely many other overseas nations are absolutely taking the preverbal liberties when it comes to quantifiable Covid statistics. All in all - hard fact is we have a second wave coming as experienced overseas not far from our shores in continental Europe. So yes more will die (as some people causally say on this and other online forums) but we all recognise that this thing will last for years (even clueless WHO believe so) and there will probably never be any medical cure but possibly more helpful treatments for recovery. We therefore have to start to go back to school, office, factory etc etc and hope for the best but expect disruption and hope you will not yet be the next another statistic. The only positive is that this is although asymptomatic and highly contagious less deadly than Ebola.

guilttripjourno · 04/09/2020 17:48

Has anyone's kid asked to be isolated due to a case in school.

OP posts:
Starlightstarbright1 · 04/09/2020 17:59

My friends relative was sent home today in England told to self isolate for 7 days...

As a childminder if school keeps sending my DS home i will have to withdraw him as I have no income and my parents can't afford to take time off work

guilttripjourno · 05/09/2020 23:16

I am surprised by the number of Facebook/ MN posts on kids getting symptoms. Kids with symptoms being sent to school. Let's pray for the best.

@Paranoidmarvin

I’m sorry that u posted this. I don’t think it is helpful to all the parents out there who are already worried and stressed. This kind of thread is going to make it worse
Stop tying to police people!

What's 'going to make it worse' is pretending children don't get & don't spread Covid & that teachers are magically exempt from getting it.

Torvean32 · 07/09/2020 01:06

Those case numbers are tiny. There are hotspots in various areas that are classed as community outbreaks. So of course some children have the virus.

Over 37500 children were tested in Scotland in first 2 weeks back. Around 40 had the virus.

No schools closed or any restrictions on them here. So it can be done safely.

Snackasaurus · 07/09/2020 15:28

But instead of focusing on the negatives, why not focus on the 1000s of schools that DON'T have Covid.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 07/09/2020 18:38

Yes technically you are perfectly correct.

However we all must recognise and respect that out of a population of approx 65 million we have so have lost 50k excess Covid deaths. Some governments and populations have much much better Covid outcomes including arguably the top of the Covid performance statistics - Taiwan with only 7 Covid fatalities (so far this year) and they are next to the initial mainland China pandemic epicentre and have a population of around 25 million.

Coming back to UK schools only a few so far after initial days and weeks back have detected Covid but so far no connected fatalities. Therefore so far so good as 99% of UK schools are statistically safe or more technically accurate to state not been tested (as tests are rare) and if tested tested with accurate positive results.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 07/09/2020 18:49

We are here in NE England in the last 24 hours Shock we’ve seen 8 primary schools close completely, 2 secondary schools (all 6th form in one and all Y9 in another), multiple restaurants, a sport and social club who held a football charity with 300 people and a hairdresser close.

We expect more.... I believe we will be going into lockdown soon as cases are multiplying twofold.

Snackasaurus · 07/09/2020 20:58

@ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia I do know where you're coming from but I find it very frustrating that there's so much focus on the minimal amount of schools that have had confirmed cases instead of focusing on the vast majority of schools that don't have any confirmed cases.

So many parents are anxious enough as it is about sending their children to school and kids will pick up on this too.

Howslifenow · 07/09/2020 22:23

250 schools in UK with 151 in England

Trackandtrace · 07/09/2020 22:51

Its the rate of which it grows 133 sat, 250 sunday.... where will it be by next weekend.

Of the bubbles that have isolated how many go on the develop the virus? The next few weeks will answer this. I hope for the best but i am prepared for things to escalate quickly

Trackandtrace · 08/09/2020 22:22
