Cordless vacuum cleaners - AIBU to think they're just a bit shit?

I bought a Vax blade earlier in the year and for the first couple of months was pretty impressed but it's now on the verge of pointless! No real sucking power and when you turn it off, anything you have managed to vacuum up just spills out as it doesn't quite manage to reach the 'dirt store' bit in the body. Has anybody has a cordless which lasted and kept its power?

I've got to now retrieve 'the beast' from under the stairs and plug it in!

@AlternativePerspective you have three vacuum cleaners??

I've got a couple of very old cordless Vax hoovers, and they're great. I must have had them 5 years or so, and they both still work brilliantly. I do whip around with them daily, so not much build up of dust, and empty them daily and bang the dust out of the filters daily. I probably clean the hair out of the roller about once every week or two. We're a busy household with cats and teenagers, the house is always spotless, and I rarely get the "big" hoover out.

I think they are designed for a daily light hoover, and daily emptying/filter clean. I'm not sure they would work so well for say a weekly hoover, when there will be a significant build up of dust/hair etc which might overwhelm them.

My Dyson V7 is only three years old and is rubbish. No suction at all and it keeps cutting out every 2 seconds when I use it. I’ve cleaned the filter but it made no difference. I’m on the point of throwing it in the bin.

@timeforawine

I have the Tineco pure one s12 and it's brilliant. So happy with it
Aha! I was going to ask if anyone had one. It gets a good write-up in Which; what's it like in real life?

My mum's cordless dyson has just stopped working after 2.5 years - motor gone. She's now bought a Shark to see if that lasts longer. I would quite like the Miele but haven't got a spare £600!

I have a dyson v7. I've had it for over a year and love it. Tbf I've gone through lots of hoovers - hoover, vax, henry, shark etc etc. But I really love the dyson v7. It does take a lot more maintenance I think. Requires quite a bit for emptying, cleaning, cleaning filters but it's still working good. I'd love to upgrade to a different model but I can't until this one bites the dust 🤣

Sounds like it's blocked. And I think Vax are great, used one at a friend's house. I have a Hoover cordless and it's fab.

CottonSock · 02/09/2020 19:07

I have a vax blade. This happened and it was blocked. Cleaned it all. Works better than my sister's Dyson!

Linguaphile · 02/09/2020 19:27

I love my Dyson v10!

Floralnomad · 02/09/2020 19:30

We have Sharks , a Bosch athlet and Dyson’s and the Sharks are definitely the best . The Bosch is lovely but is a pain to use the tools . My dsis has the newest Dyson and the Shark anti hair wrap and they are both excellent , her gtech on the other hand is crap .

I tried my dad's Fairly new Dyson cordless recently and was seriously unimpressed to be honest. It was fully charged and I needed to give the 10ft rug a bloody good clean cos his girlfriend's dog stinks to high heaven. Just a 10x8ft rug and it was really struggling. I'd to keep going over and over the mass of dog hairs, the smelly air was blown out at my chest so my clothes ended up stinking and it kept fading out losing power.

My corded Shark would have done it all in seconds and left it completely hair and stink free.

RozHuntleysStump · 02/09/2020 20:04

Oh My Dyson..how I love thee.

user1497787065 · 02/09/2020 20:12

I agree my Dyson cordless is poor.
Ok for a quick run round but useless for a proper 'clean'. I use an 11 year old Dyson for that which I had serviced by Dyson last year. When this one dies I don't know what I will buy as I don't like the Ball-type cleaners

winemonster · 02/09/2020 20:16

@CCSS15

I have the shark cordless anti hair wrap and its fabulous - have a corded miele and its not been out of the cupboard since the arrival of the shark
Same here. We have a Shark cordless upstairs and a cordless Bosch athlet downstairs, both are powerful for really clean debris free carpets and hardwood floors. Occasionally for a really deep clean I’ll drag the corded Miele out but find it cumbersome to use.
BojoKilledMyMojo · 02/09/2020 20:52

I have a Shark and a Gtech. I prefer the Gtech and find it very low maintenance.

BrunoMars · 02/09/2020 20:58

I despise my Dyson - it needs to be on high suction to get anything out of carpets so constantly needs charging, changing the heads is a faff for carpet then bathrooms/kitchen. It either needs emptying after 5 mins or the filter needs washing after 5 mins. Pile of utter shite. We had an ancient Henry for £99 which was still going strong after 20 years but exh got custody.
