To send my children to school anyway

My dd keeps getting tonsillitis and of course two days before school starts it's back again! Shes had it 5 times already since January, but not enough times to have them out yet. Older DC was the same, they had to have their tonsils and adenoids out and gromits in their ears - so not my first rodeo.

My children are at two schools (high school and primary) and both schools have said that if anyone in the household has a temperature not to send them into school for two weeks, and the ill person one week.

However, we know this is recurrent tonsillitis and not covid, but she has a temp and we have an appointment for tomorrow for antibiotics.

So I aibu to send my children to school anyway? One is has additional needs and can't afford to miss the beginning of school as it's their first week of high school/ yr 7.

DD with tonsillitis is starting reception too, so will miss transition 😣

I'm not concerned about sending her to school because she always perks up quickly after antibiotics which she is now on. She's already perked up a lot and is eating.

Covid test - will get it done tomorrow hopefully. But like I said I think it is a waste of time. This screenshot is from my phone location tracking app. The day we went out was to a field, didn't come into contact with anyone, went in our own car. We have a huge garden before anyone judges me, for not taking children out. Like I said, we've been home. Unless you can catch covid off an envelope through the post?

I'm sending Yr7 to school.

Op I'd go back and insist. Say, you refused to give antibiotics. So those 2 should count. Speak to the practice manager. Push op, push. Be insistent, polite but firm : "I'm not taking no for an answer this time". Is perfectly fine.

I suffer with my tonsills. At the start of lockdown I had what I assumed to be this. But it felt worse than normal and DS had returned from Italy and been unusually ill with a fever.

So I'd say YABU as it could be CV. Also, if they are weak then that makes them more susceptible to being ill.
Plus, tonsillitis is awful, why would you make them go in?

Timeforanotherusername · 01/09/2020 19:50

You do need to test unfortunately although your most likely is tonsillitis.

And for those saying don't send to school if they are ill - the child is getting antibiotics. If they arenlike my kids they kick in quickly.

24 hours later they are right as rain.

But you do need that negative test before you can send any child to school.

I think OP has got the message and she’s already said she’ll get a test

Lockdownseperation · 01/09/2020 19:57

@welshweasel

Covid can cause tonsillitis. You need to get a swab. I’m despairing that people are still asking these sorts of questions!
Yep. Me too. The rules are very clear on this one. It takes less than 24 hours to get results back so if it’s not covid your kids will miss one day.
MitziK · 01/09/2020 20:41

If you send her in, she'll be sent straight back home again.

Don't be a dick.

@OverTheRainbow88 the OP has still said she is sending her other child into school.

I'm sending Yr7 to school.

I’ve dealt with multiple people (NHS) who are adamant they have been completely isolating for weeks but have still come down with covid. No idea how/where they caught it so I wouldn’t be too presumptuous just in case.

I think OP has got the message and she’s already said she’ll get a test

The OP has also said she will still send the other child to school, which is obviously against the guidelines. The whole family should be self isolating until the results of a test comes back.

Unfortunately there is nothing that schools can do to prevent this. In most cases, like this, schools won't know.

We can only hope that none of them 'it's definitely not going to be Covid' circumstances prove to be incorrect assumptions over the coming weeks.

And people wonder why some teaching staff and schools are concerned. Confused

RoomOfRequirement · 01/09/2020 23:24

Don't send your other children you selfish woman.

MsMD · 01/09/2020 23:27

If I had a dollar for every patient who told me 'I KNOW it's not Covid' who then tested positive I'd already have retired.

Potterpotterpotter · 01/09/2020 23:33

Seems shitty to send your child to school when they aren’t well. Look after them instead.

StingsPenThatHeGaveToPhoebe · 01/09/2020 23:37

My covid test results after experiencing a sore throat came back within 12 hours via text and email, so you shouldn’t be waiting long if you get tests Smile

LupinsNotLilys · 01/09/2020 23:38

Yabu to send them in without Knowing your other dc are ok

My youngest has a cold (probably) but I can't send the other 2 in until Ds gets a negative test

What if my Ds or your dc did have Covid and the whole 'bubble' in school had to isolate for 14 days? You're talking 100's of people it would effect.

Keep them home til you've a negative result
