to think there's nothing more offensive than cheap body spray

Teenage DD is obsessed with the stuff - Impulse, So, whatever's on offer in Home Bargains.

IT STINKS.

She left for school 30 minutes ago and I can still smell the stuff and feel it in the back of my throat. Yuk. This phase will pass, right?

And I know it could be worse, it could be a DS and Lynx.

I agree ..it's cheap and nasty. The smell is enough to knock you out.

Chickenwing · 01/09/2020 15:48

The female lynx is actually lovely :) also britney spears fantasy perfume smells much more expensive than it is.

Tell the teenagers than an anti persperant deoderant works much better than a body spray.

SockYarn · 01/09/2020 16:07

My favourite perfume is the Aqua one from M&S. It's about £16 for a massive bottle and is a fraction of the price of my next favourite Issey Miyake one.

Agree that price isn't necessarily an indicator of quality. But Impulse/Lynx should still be banned.

rotten potatos or spilt milk are worse ...

but I'm with you op 'luckily' my asthma means that aerosols are forbidden in our home. which was great until ds discovered lynx also make roll ons...

Coldwinterahead1 · 01/09/2020 16:11

@Toddlerteaplease Are you saying o2 is back now because if it is you have made my year !

Toddlerteaplease · 01/09/2020 17:07

No. I don't know. Someone mentioned it on another post a few days ago so it might be.

SeasickPenguin · 01/09/2020 17:17

May as well have titled this.

Ewwwww, Don't Poor People Stink.

Now, that'd offensive.

SockYarn · 01/09/2020 17:22

Ewwwww, Don't Poor People Stink

Fucks sake, people are desperate to feverything, aren't they?

OP posts:
SockYarn · 01/09/2020 17:22

desperate to take offence at everything, even.

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 01/09/2020 17:40

Its not a "poor people" thing ffs its a teen girl thing!
My very expensive "naice" private school reeked of So..? and Impulse. Rank.

SeasickPenguin · 01/09/2020 17:44

Fuck sake indeed!

If you want to say things that can be taken offensively.

Don't be surprised when someone does take offence.

I decide if I find something offensive or not.

You can "fuck sake" till the cows come home because you don't get to tell me that.

1FootInTheRave · 01/09/2020 17:49

Probably marginally better than the Exclamation! and Tribe that we used to use in the 90's Blush

NiceGerbil · 01/09/2020 17:51

'desperate to take offence at everything, even.'

Grin

V funny op

Spied · 01/09/2020 17:55

I use impulse and the Boots own brand body sprays and I don't think the have as much scent as they did years ago.
I wear them around the house and use them to feel fresh rather than add scent ( not using my Dior for lazy days slobbing)
The teens I know all wear the Ariana Grande perfumes for school.

Xmasbaby11 · 01/09/2020 18:01

I don't mind strong cheap scents! I find BO much worse, or bad breath. I'm a teacher (university) and have suffered with students' BO!

Timekeeper2 · 01/09/2020 18:05

Impulse is pricey, so certainly not cheap, and considered something that every girl uses. Was even when I was in high school 20-odd years ago. Every girl wears impulse, every boy wears Lynx or similar. It's just the way it is. I never really thought about it myself, it was just the done thing. Even now I still wear Impulse (and get compliments about the scent I'm wearing, people think it's a nice perfume and I have to tell them it's Impulse). It's a good quality deodorant that never goes out of fashion, and I've yet to come across one that 'stinks'.

SockYarn · 01/09/2020 18:11

Want some vinegar for that mahoosive chip on your shoulder, @SeasickPenguin?

Teens liberally dousing themselves in Lynx/Impulse is nothing to do with income. Teens of all income levels do this, in vast, eye-watering quantities. I remember the Exclamation stuff from my youth - red bottle? Maybe getting it confused with something else. DD likes the Hollister/Victoria's Secret body sprays but they're too good for school apparently. They also all take their own Impulse/So/whatever to school and liberally spray it around after PE. Those poor teachers.

Ugh, I didn't realise she wore anti-perspirant as well. That's strange.
The beauty of body sprays is that you don't need to wear anti-perspirant. The body spray is the deodorant, it prevents you needing anti-perspirant at all. In fact, anti-perspirant clogs the paws and prevents you from sweating properly, so it is not actually recommended to wear anti-perspirant. Just deodorant/body spray. Because it is better to perspire than try to perspiring by clogging up your pits. If she is wearing both though - and that defeats the entire purpose of each of them individually, it's like spraying 2 different perfumes on your wrist. In the end you end up with a different smell altogether. You are not meant to wear more than one perfume a the same time, or more than one deodorant at the same time. Maybe tell her to try wearing one or the other.

Timekeeper2 · 01/09/2020 18:22

*Because it is better to perspire than try to [prevent] perspiring

Ive never tried the Boots ones. Ive been wearing an Impulse one called Instant Crush over the spring/ summer. They definately ARENT as strong as they were years ago. It seems to wear off after a few hours.

I like the Superdrug Layering Lab body mists too. Im more likely to wear body spray over the summer.

PablosHoney · 01/09/2020 18:54

Lol at girls not getting BO

Magicbabywaves · 01/09/2020 18:56

One of the worst smells defiantly. Hate that cheap, sweet reek.

CharismaticVic · 01/09/2020 18:57

Get her some of the Soap and Glory sprays. They are quite nice and also distinctive. I dont think I've ever felt they smelt overwhelming.

PablosHoney · 01/09/2020 19:00

See I can’t bear the smell of Soap and Glory products.

HeIenaDove · 03/09/2020 19:06

Ive found some of the Soap and Glory products a bit harsh.
