3 hours cleaning

I'm in the market for a cleaner (aren't we all!) and I've asked for the main bathroom, en-suite, downstairs toilet, kitchen and floors in kitchen, hallway and living room to be done.

Without seeing my house, the company I've contacted has suggested it'll take 3-4 hours. AIBU to think there's no way it'll take that long?

How much can your cleaner do in 3 hours?

My cleaner does bathroom, ensuite, downstairs toilet, mops hard floors and hoovers carpets in 2 hours. I live in a decent size 3 bed.

iamabox · 30/08/2020 17:55

That could be for the initial first clean. Then normally it would only be 1 or 2 hours a week.

fedupandlookingforchange · 30/08/2020 17:56

Mine does 2 bathrooms, ndownstairs loo, kitchen, 4 beds and 2 living spaces in 3 hours.
Usually the bedroom floors don’t need vacuuming and I do try to keep it clean and tidy in between. She cleans once a fortnight

Dylaninthemovies1 · 30/08/2020 18:02

Our cleaners do kitchen, bathroom, shower room, hall, stairs and lounge in 2 hours (including floors )

No we aren't all looking for a cleaner. Just saying
Oblomov20 · 30/08/2020 18:09

I'm surprised most cleaners can get the above done in 2 hours.

Merryoldgoat · 30/08/2020 18:09

Mine takes 3 hours to do:

Kitchen
Living room
Downstairs Loo
Bathroom
Master bedroom
Hoover all rooms
Mop hard floors (all downstairs)

I have a big 3 bed and it’s a bit chaotic with kids crap around so I think 3 hours seems reasonable

readingismycardio · 30/08/2020 18:11

Mine does 2 bedrooms, 1 living room, a big hallway, kitchen, 2 bathrooms and a terrace.

Dust, hoover, mop + sparkly clean bathrooms. She waters the flowers and changes the bedding. Best money we spend, honestly.

It takes her 3 hours & we always leave the house

TheChosenTwo · 30/08/2020 18:12

As a PP said, that might be for the initial clean, subsequent cleans after that may take less.
Ours does 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 toilet, 2 reception rooms and a large kitchen, hall stairs and landings (3 floors) in 4 hours.
It’s not a deep thorough job, it’s mainly surface cleans and she does deep cleans when we go away on holiday.
Check with them though, they might be thinking skirting boards, picture rails, cleaning out the fridge etc (I don’t know, just guessing what else might take all that time!).
My mum asks her cleaner to put the fresh linen on her bed (they strip it themselves but my mum is disabled and this is something she would struggle to do herself), the company might be adding on lots of extras you might not want.

OverTheRainbow88 · 30/08/2020 18:12

In 2 hours, ours does lounge, kitchen, downstairs loo, utility, 3 bedrooms and bathroom, if I want her to do the attic and en-suite she doesn’t do 2 other bedrooms.

Duvetdweller · 30/08/2020 18:15

My cleaner could clean my 4 bed (very tidy) house in 2 hours. But she’d be absolutely killing herself to do it so I pay her for 3 hours so she has time to do it properly without being under unnecessary pressure. If you can afford a cleaner pay them properly!

Dishwashersaurous · 30/08/2020 18:15

Most have a minimum three hours because otherwise it’s not worth the travel time etc and because most people want three hours then effectively it’s two jobs a day, plus travel time

BaconsLaw · 30/08/2020 18:22

Thank you, everyone. I hadn't thought about it just being three hours initially.

How much are you paying per hour? I've had £10, £13.50 and £15 quoted.

oblada · 30/08/2020 18:22

Focus on the standards you want and the total cost rather than per hour.
I pay my cleaner for '3 hours' but she goes when she is done (often under 3hours) which is fine by me as i'd rather focus on overall cost and result. We live in a smallish 4 bedroom house, she focuses on the bathrooms (2), toilet (1 separate) and floors (carpet upstairs, hard floor downstairs). She does worktops/sinks and windows/mirrors if she can.

Pumpkinnose · 30/08/2020 18:24

Depending on area you live then it’s often a minimum charge. And think about living wage/whether you are using an agency.

oblada · 30/08/2020 18:24

Initially I was paying 11pounds per hour. North West. I've decided to pay 35 for '3hours' because she deserves it (and more).

turnthebiglightoff · 30/08/2020 18:28

I've cleaned my kitchen, dining room, living room and bathroom today and that took me 2 hours, to do properly after a week at home with 3 of us. 3-4 hours is entirely reasonable.

JaceLancs · 30/08/2020 18:31

For 3 hours in a 3 bed semi I get bathroom kitchen and downstairs toilet cleaned
All floors done, carpets vacuumed
All house dusted
Woodwork polished
Sometimes if there is time spare she will do an extra job
DD cleans for me and I pay £10 per hour

thegreylady · 30/08/2020 18:33

I pay £12,50 an hour. We live in a smallish 3 bed bungalow. She comes for 4/5 hours a week, cleans whole house and does the garden weather permitting. She is worth every penny.

JMG1234 · 30/08/2020 18:36

Mine is £50 for 4 hours. For that, she thoroughly cleans:
Kitchen, dining area and utility
Dining room
Lounge
Study
Playroom
4 bedrooms and three bathrooms
Occasionally our guest bedroom and bathroom in the roof
Hall and landing

She works very hard and it takes me way longer to clean to her standard. I'm not lazy but she has the magic touch.

PinkSparkleUnicorns · 30/08/2020 18:37

So we have a 4 bed detached house. In 2 hours a week they do:

En suite
Bathroom
Downstairs loo
Living room
1 or 2 of the bedrooms (they circulate each week as these rooms aren't too bad)
Hoover and mop hallway and kitchen floor.

We don't ask for the kitchen sides etc to be cleaned. We tend to clean that room ourselves anyway.

PinkSparkleUnicorns · 30/08/2020 18:38

We pay £18 per hour mind!

blanchmange50 · 30/08/2020 18:48

My cleaner does 5hrs a week, 2 1/2 hrs on a monday and the same on a friday. We have a 4 bed house with double reception and i love coming home to a clean house. I dont have to lift a hoover or a mop. She spends around an hour in the kitchen and i understand that as if I do it I have to empty dishwasher, clean work tops, cooker, oven, utility room, hoover and mop..

Lazysundayafternoons · 30/08/2020 18:50

Mine does just about the same as you've asked in about 2 and a half hours

Ishihtzuknot · 30/08/2020 18:53

As a cleaner that would be a 2 hour house for me, but 3 hours for the initial deep clean is common. I finish bigger houses than that in 2 hours so keep the communication opener to make sure they don’t take the piss. The prices are about right too, depending where you live, I get £15 an hour.
