3 hours cleaning

I'm in the market for a cleaner (aren't we all!) and I've asked for the main bathroom, en-suite, downstairs toilet, kitchen and floors in kitchen, hallway and living room to be done.

Without seeing my house, the company I've contacted has suggested it'll take 3-4 hours. AIBU to think there's no way it'll take that long?

How much can your cleaner do in 3 hours?

Mine is £17.50 per hour. Hall, master, en suite, cloakroom, kitchen, conservatory, dining room, living room. Mops/ hoovers etc. She does it in 2.5 hours and moves furniture and does blinds. We also have a lot of granite surfaces in the kitchen which are wiped down an d polished.

BaconsLaw · 30/08/2020 18:59

Thank you, everyone.

It's really nice to read how much you appreciate your cleaners. And, I'm not going to go for the cheapest for the sake of it (I've already ruled her out as she was too chaotic in her messages so she put me off).

Mine does the kitchen, 6 bedrooms, 5 ensuites, 4 reception rooms, the pool room, 2 saunas, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Sorry, couldn’t help myself

CatSmith · 30/08/2020 19:12

Do you want them done properly or done quickly?

If you think 3 hours is too long, do it yourself. I’d love to see anyone do 7 rooms in 3 hours. You’re talking about 30 minutes each room!

I think 3 hours is absolutely reasonable if you want them done properly.

Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 30/08/2020 19:12

My cleaner is awesome. She cleaned my four bed top to bottom ensuite, bathroom downstairs loo and utility, windows and descaled the bath, did the door frames and fronts of all appliances yesterday in 2 3/4 hours. I don't know how she does it but I'm hoping to keep her forever!

GameSetMatch · 30/08/2020 19:17

Mine used to do, bathroom, kitchen, living room and hallway and stairs easily in two hours.

BaconsLaw · 30/08/2020 19:23

It's not seven rooms, though. It's four and then the floor.

The kitchen is probably average sized but the rest is really small!

Surely the whole point of me needing a cleaner is because I've no time to do it myself. If I did, I would!

My cleaner does three hours. Not an exhaustive list of everything she does but:

  • Kitchen (worktops, appliances, sink - not hob or oven)
  • Bathroom (toilet, sink, bath & bidet - yes we rent a house with a bidet, it’s unusual!)
  • Hoovers all floors and up the stairs (she also takes all the rugs up which I love her for, last cleaner used to just mop around them)
  • Mops all floors and up the stairs
  • Dusts every room
  • Changes 1 x bedding
  • Skirting boards
  • Windows and mirrors and windowsills
  • Any misc jobs she finds along the way like washing up or hanging washing to dry

We have a three bedroom house, only 1 bedroom in use but huge double size living room

JadesRollerDisco · 30/08/2020 19:30

IME it's usually 2hours x 3 a week or 3 hours x 2 a week to do that kind of job effectively, or longer if only weekly/ fortnightly

msflibble · 30/08/2020 19:41

Pretty sure 3 hours is standard for a good job in my locality. 4 is pushing it a bit though.

BackforGood · 30/08/2020 19:42

Mine charges £10ph. She does 2 hours.
(Term time only)
She does (every week):
Main bathroom (quite big room, incl bath and sep walk in shower)
Other bathroom(no actual bath but a normal sized room with shower, toilet, sink)
Understairs toilet
Long thin hall
Satirs
Long thin landing
Next set of stairs
Top floor landing
Kitchen
A big pile of washing up
Mops kitchen, both bathrooms, toilet and hallway
Also vacs 2 x Reception rooms
Usually vacs two bedroos (this vries, depending on who is asleep / working from home / living away that week etc)

All the bove she does in about an hour and 1/4 - 1 1/2 hrs, then there are other things she does for 20 - 30mins, which vary week on week.

Yes, it does take longer the first time to 'get used to the place' (from where the sockets are to where the mop bucket lives).
Yes, my cleaner is an absolute star
But they are still taking the mick, thinking what you suggested will take 3 hours.

reefedsail · 30/08/2020 19:42

We pay 12.50p/h for 3hrs/week, but in reality we leave her £40 each week. She comes some distance and I don't like her to be out of pocket for fuel.

In 4 bed detached she does:
Bathroom, ensuite, cloakroom
Kitchen/ utility
Mop/hoover downstairs, hoover upstairs
Dusting

Hadjab · 30/08/2020 19:44

Mine does living room, hall, dining room, 2 bathrooms and kitchen in 3 hours. She doesn’t do the bedrooms as my kids are responsible for keeping their rooms clean.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 30/08/2020 19:45

Do you want them done properly or done quickly?

This.

I’ve gone through many cleaners over the past few years. They have varied massively in what they can get done and the standard to which it’s done. 2-3 hours on a 4 bed will keep it from going to wrack and ruin but it won’t be a deep clean of any of it.

OhdearSummersOver · 30/08/2020 19:48

I think that it depends on your home. If you have lots of stuff/nick naks/clutter then it takes longer to clean. A home with less clutter is so much easier to clean IMO eg I have a large sitting room area and very clean and easy lines and can clean and vacuum the lot in 10 minutes (nothing to be moved out the way). My mother's sitting room is very cluttered and she has a million (or it feels that way) ornaments.... takes ages!

Thisismytimetoshine · 30/08/2020 19:49

I don't have a cleaner anymore, but she used to do the entire (4 bed) house in three hours, with stuff like ironing/window cleaning if she finished early.
She was a Trojan. Sadly she moved away and I never found anyone like her again.

RedlightGreenlight · 30/08/2020 19:59

"I've asked for the main bathroom, en-suite, downstairs toilet, kitchen and floors in kitchen, hallway and living room to be done. "

Our cleaner does the above plus stairs an our room in 2 hours. She charges £10 ph in NW Engand

Duvetdweller · 30/08/2020 19:59

Also when we go away I book her in to do a deep clean which normally takes her about 6/7 hours

SpilltheTea · 30/08/2020 20:06

I pay £13 an hour. She's worth her weight in gold. It's hard to find a really good cleaner.

KitchenRollHuggers · 30/08/2020 20:11

Ours only does certain rooms in the house,
What she does is:

Hoover large bungalow

Clean, and dust Large kitchen, small toilet, double front room, dinning room, 2 hallways, large bedroom and two other bathrooms plus utility

Mop kitchen, hallway, utility room, small toilet

Takes about 3 hours.

There's 3 other bedrooms she doesn't do, from our request.

£15 an hour

BlueSkyBurningBright · 30/08/2020 20:12

Mine does the same as you asked in 3.5 hours. Sometimes I ask her to do a bit more then it is 4 hours. Depends on the size of your rooms too.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 30/08/2020 20:14

I think expecting someone to come to you for less than @3 hours work at that rate of pay is taking the piss.

pencilpot99 · 30/08/2020 20:15

This is a really useful thread. I’ve just arranged for my first cleaner, I’m very excited!! 😁 Our house is a not massive 4 beds, kitchen, living room, 1 bathroom, 1 en-suite and 1 wet room. She said 3 hours for that and I’m paying £16 p/h. It’s probably on the higher end but I’m self-employed myself so understand the ‘unseen’ costs and am happy to pay a reasonable living wage amount rather than bare minimum.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 30/08/2020 20:15

£14 a hour here, they do my whole house in 3 hours (3 bed, 2 bath and downstairs loo). Cost includes all cleaning stuff.

Thisismytimetoshine · 30/08/2020 20:16

Yes, I paid £16ph as well.
