To be really angry on behalf of teachers

Jessicabrassica · 29/08/2020 07:51

I know mumsnet loves a bit of teacher bashing.
I'm really angry that once again the Department for Education has put out guidance for schools in a Friday night before a long weekend with some schools having already started and others back next week.
I cannot imagine how many iterations of risk assessments have already been completed to make schools as safe as possible given the constraints of staff numbers, building size and requirements to get every child back in school.
They are getting enough PPE to tick the box that it's been issued to all schools but not enough to be useful.
Teachers mostly haven't stopped working since the pandemic began. They have continued to teach, to support vulnerable learners, provided meals and good parcels out of school funds in lieu of FSM, they remained open through school holidays for key worker provision.
I really feel that they have been well and truly fucked over, left massively vulnerable and will be left to carry the can for community outbreaks.

I'm a parent and work for the NHS if it's if any consequence.

@Daphnise

The sooner teachers are back in the classrooms doing what they are paid for, the better. They have had a long holiday since March.
LOL

you're funny. Grin

@noblegiraffe

lol at paid shills infiltrating mn

Christ you're naive. We had a bunch of paid Russian shills on here during the Brexit campaign, and when the Salisbury poisoning happened.

The language was getting quite boringly civil, & I was starting get bored, but now I have another one to add to my increasingly valuable resource. Hooray!

‘They have had a long holiday since March. ‘ Openly having hobbies and not having the decency to feel ashamed' (I'm paraphrasing), 'teachers need to play their part in society' Moaning', 'crack on', 'snowflakes', 'whining', 'get a grip', 'paid with our money', 'don't live in the real world', 'teachers just love to sodding moan', ‘Thank goodness nurses and doctors carries on without the same fuss.’, ‘our teAchers will close the school again at the drop of a hat.’ ‘If only teachers put as much energy into re-opening schools as they seem to complaining about how unfair it all is on them.’ ‘There has been no particular spreading of COVID in schools and no reason to be concerned ‘ ‘Shit at their jobs (and parents can do it better but we still want teachers to do it even though they’re shit).’ ‘gas lighting.’ ‘Some people just seem to want lockdown to last forever.’ ‘suffering major delusions’, ‘constantly whining about how they have it uniquely difficult.’ ‘refusal to even acknowledge that this has been going on’,
‘dereliction of duty to their pupils’, ‘actively mocking foster parents and vulnerable children’, ‘other people have got it worse so shut-up’,

Also lots around the theme of ‘I’ve been treated really badly at work, so why shouldn’t teachers be?’

I’ve seen at least three more examples of the last one.

Worth adding in full, as a fine example of it’s type:

‘Least they're being given ppe not sure if you've noticed but all the factory workers across the country haven't stopped working either.

And have been working mostly without protections and dying at the highest rate.

Possibly not middle class enough to care about though.’

Nope. We've been working, either in hubs or online. But you carry on casting aspersions on the whole profession because maybe some teachers you know haven't been. There's nothing "holiday" about teaching remotely.
Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2020 21:14

I am just going to start reporting anything that is inaccurate and just designed to goad tbh.

And if one more teacher tells me their school Is ‘open’ I will bloody scream. Schools have NOT been open to the majority of state pupils. End. Of.
But schools were open in the capacity that they were allowed to be open.

So they were open. End. Of.

I hope like hell that some people's children are remarkably obtuse, and not soaking up their parent's adversarial attitude towards schools and teachers, and utter lack of respect for them.

Sadly, I think many people's kids aren't as dumb as their parents think they are.

FrippEnos · 29/08/2020 21:26

I am sure that all of those throwing shade at teachers have already deregistered their children and will either be home schooling them or have paid for them to go private.

After all you would be a fool to send your children in to a school with people that you have no trust in?

year5teacher · 29/08/2020 21:26

Some people just hate teachers.

Luckily I don’t particularly care what they think. If you’re not a child in my class, a parent of a child in my class, SLT at my work, or ofsted.... I don’t care. I don’t care if people think we haven’t worked or we’re shit or lazy or workshy or moaning or pathetic anything. I literally do not have it in me to care anymore. Grin

I did find it interesting, the kids I knew who I knew their parents, who had a really quite negative opinion of schools and teachers in general, and the value of education (personally, we weren't a great primary school, that wasn't the fault of many of the teachers, more the philosophy of the leadership, which was that we should aspire to mediocrity), did not do particularly well academically. I'll be interested to see how they go on in life.

So far, from what I see, it's not going great. . .

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 29/08/2020 21:30

What was the thread about again? Ah yes the op stated
I know mumsnet loves a bit of teacher bashing

and that has clearly been evidenced.

Ok I will bite for this one.

Are you aware that teachers are not the people who made the decision about who qualifies as a key worker and therefore gets to have their kid in school?

Schools have not been open to everyone and by the sounds of it you’re angry that this didn’t include your child. I’m sorry about that. But what else are we meant to say when we have been teaching children full time? Did I just imagine that happening? No, they were not open to every child. But they still haven’t been shut, end of.

ilovesooty · 29/08/2020 21:32

@formerbabe

First day of term here is an inset day...clearly couldn't have found a single day in the past six months to do whatever they need to do. It's almost funny...
I can't believe that's a serious comment.
Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2020 21:32

Inset Days are extra to school term.

Dominicgoings · 29/08/2020 21:33

and SOME parents were getting their kids to do the work. SOME

Absolutely. SOME parents and children didn’t have/don’t have remote access. SOME parents don’t have the required literacy and numeracy skills to support their kids. SOME parents don’t give a rats arse about their childs education and welfare. SOME parents were frontline healthcare workers who had to prioritise.

SOME teachers have been brilliant and continue to be so.
SOME teachers have failed.
SOME teachers are embracing the new challenges and moving forward positively.

SOME teachers are not Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2020 21:34

Much like any job the,

Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2020 21:34

then

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 29/08/2020 21:35

SOME threads are about teachers efficacy or otherwise.

SOME threads (hint: this one) are about the government fucking up.

SOME posters are goady.

Because obviously there is no need to train staff on the new guidelines which are only 72 hours old.Hmm

Do you want us to teach your children or just child mind?

Do you have any idea about the amount of work it takes to rewrite the curriculum for 5 year groups to take account of missing 2 terms? Especially when we’re keen to re engage students so are making sure the first unit we teach is appropriate.

That’s alongside the eleventy million covid things that needs sorting. And now the new planning for any future lockdowns.

You despise teachers, clearly - and you want us to know that.
